What is the best way to try out the series? The manga? The anime? The OVAs? The movies?

Some of the older volumes need to be redone as well. Around v16-ish, the translations get really wonky and awkward.

The 1989 OVA for sure. The manga is hard to get a hold of, the original OVA is okay but not great, the 2005 anime is super watered down, and the movies, while charming in a goofy b-movie way, are still pretty bad.

Some differences, and new additions... but handles certain characters a bit better.

But from volume 10+ is all manga, because there is no Anime for it. Still recommend reading volumes 1-9... but the age of the series really shows up a lot in some of the earlier volumes. ( it's why the 2005 series helps)

If you want some of the coolest Guyver content, the 1989 12 part OAV is by far the best it has been. basic story premise is there, but does not 100% follow the manga. That eye gouging gif above? >>15377984 is from this OAV series.

The OAV "Out of Control" is old and doesn't follow the manga... but has the Female Guyver 2 and the infamous tentacle bonding scene.

If any group is ever going to consider picking this up, telling them that the older books need redoing is something they will not want to hear and will back away from a project.

3 of the newest volumes isn't THAT much to consider.

Marketing people. Got to make it sound as enticing as it can. Even if we only get one or two more... More = Good.

Thanks guys I'll add the 12 episode ova to my soon to watch list. I have always found the design and concept of Guyver so cool, biological power armor is underutilized, but I never knew the best way to break in and enjoy it. If I like the OVA I'll check out the manga but if the first 9 volumes feel too dated I'll watch the new anime series then continue the manga.

People are going to back off anyway because of Guyver Advocacy. There's always been this unspoken rule with sib groups that you don't "step on toes." If a group is already doing a project, you don't do the same project.
