I'am both excited and scared of IBO's final episode because there are some things that could happen that would completely mindfuck me and leave a sour taste in my mouth like for example:

I can't tell if this is bait or not, but characters like Mikazuki do hilariously well with shonen audiences. Thematically, he's a mix of Guts and Sasuke, both of whom are characters that Japanese audiences eat up with reckless abandon.

Julia doesn't really have a decent suit right now, but the Flauros honestly doesn't fit her fighting style. It's too bad she doesn't have an AV system, because the Bael would be the perfect ride for her.

For some really weird reason, I can't help but think she'll be piloting the Grimgerde once they hose out what's-his-name's bits from it. Sure the suit was Rider Kicked in half, but it's the only thing that can stand up to a Gundam frame.

Unless Galio lends her Ein's system and Rustal lets her pilot Bael, I can't think of what she'd pilot.

We all know about how Mika's influence, when left unchecked after Biscuit's death, led to Orga making some questionable calls that hurt Tekkadan in the long run.

But what about McGillis? Sure, he had the plan for a long time but Mika was a major influence in him going through with it. The brute strength of Mika and Barbatos was an inspiration to him, fueling his chuuni fantasies about how great Agnika and the OG Gjallarhorn was. He was able to use that strength in order to create the power vacuum in season one, where he decided to sacrifice his friends in the name of the plan. He so believed in the strength of Tekkadan that he continued to partner up with them, and thought they would be able to help him win against Rustal's fleet despite being heavily outnumbered.

And when he realized they weren't what he thought they were, he leaves to go into space to make a suicidal one-man stand against Rustal.

Mika ruined Orga. Mika ruined McGillis. Mika ruined everything.

I think the thing was they wanted to make Mika more likable as a person, so they gave him an underling to look after. Personally, i see plenty if Rustal was to survive.

We've all seen the lengths Rustal goes to to get what he wants, that he protects and maintains a system that gives rise to children like tekkadan and people like mcgillis, but instead of trying to make things better, he'd rather crush the "puss" and ensure nothing changes.

To me, things look like they're settling like the first season of gundam 00, where CB gets BTFO, scattered and the A-LAWS are created to crush people even harder, causing more resistence but also leading the System to accept Collateral damage more blatantly.

If Kudelias 'indepence' desire actualyl gets its own development, then she becomes a target (again) and whats left of Tekkadan restores itself, and with Mars probobly suffering the harshest under Rustals regeime, people realise that Gallahorn was the evil and they flock to Tekkadan to gain indepenced again.

Individual Tekkadan pilots who are on the main cast, sure. Tekkadan as an entire organization, no. Tekkadan always lost a shit ton of kids when battles were tough, but relied on their tech advantage, tactics and Kudelia and Orga's meagre diplomatic skills to eke out wins. Leaders like Orga never got plot armor, and even biscuit died like a bitch. Even when some characters would get plot armor, it wasn't all that consequential to Tekkadan winning last season. Compare it to Rustal, Iok, and Gaelio, and you can tell which side has it worse.

I remember Nagai saying at the end of season one he didn't believe Tekkadan were on the right path, but it was important the audience didn't think they were wrong or misguided. This sums up how I feel so much. I know they're supposed to be important by being the first ones to stand up against Gjallajorn and not immediately die, but in the wider view of things, Tekkadan really doesn't feel like they're important players at all, and it ends up dragging the rest of the show to try and make it about them.

We should've had a show centered around Kudelia vs. McGillis, with McGillis trying to scheme and manipulate his way within Gjallajorn and Kudelia trying to build a popular movement amongst other people. The show could've been like a reverse of Code Geass and Tekkadan would've been just another of many contracted mercenaries in the background, maybe even part of Kudelia's supporting cast at most. That way there could've been some conflict between Kudelia and McGillis over methods and personalities, even though they're aiming for the same goal. And it would also force the show to actually show us why Kudeia is sugoi.

You have to realize Orga is putting up an act. He has to play the role of being Kamina-lite since he feels he has to live up to Mikazuki's, and later the entirety of Tekkadan's, expectations of him. His mouth wrote a check and they expected him to cash it in.

But he's not the fearless leader they thought he was, he just wants to provide for those under him. That's why when they lose big he breaks down and someone has to push him back into his badass persona out of a misguided belief they're helping him by doing so. With that out of the way, I never argued his development was spectacular this season, if anything, his development was more prominent in S1 (it was all about getting rid of the spoiled child in him and giving him a taste of realtity) and we weren't able to witness the evolution of his post Choco betrayal development. S2 was more about discovering Vidar and looking for an image of the old S1 Gaelio underneath the Vidar mask.
But like you said, despite appearances he ends not being that different from what he used to be toward the end of S1, and that's the point. No matter how much he wanted to pretend otherwise, at the end of the day he was still the same on the inside (what you call a naive, whiny brat): a loyal friend with a strong sense of justice. As evidenced by his tears for McGillis. There was actually no post betrayal development, it was a lie.

Gaelio is the reason Rustal even knows McGillis is planning anything, and Gaelio revealing McGillis' actions in season one is the reason the other seven stars don't hand over control once he starts pulling his coup. The AV type Ein is also the only system that allows anyone to beat Bael. All of those things I guess you could fix with tweaks, but Gaelio has had a major effect on the plot of this show, however stupid or tediously its been executed.

If you want to have the "his crimes come back to haunt him" you could just have Tekkadan find out that he leaked Orga's position and refuse to back him up. That's all you'd have to change to sweep Gaelio under the rug.
You can't remove McGillis the same way because the entire plot of s2 revolves around him. He's a main character, Gaelio isn't.

You're not really that off in that conclusion. Mika and Orga were always partners in their codependence. Mika practically made the decisions as much as Orga did. He just did in a silent partner sort of way. Orga says in the very beginning that no matter what his own plan was, if Mika wasn't on board, then the entire plan is scrapped. However, because the two knew each other so well, he also knew when and for what Mika would be on board with and when he wouldn't be.

So, in a way, Mika and Orga sort of led Tekkadan together, even if it was moreso that one was the "king" as the other was his "sword". Now the king is dead, but the sword still knows what it's wielder would have wanted done.
