>ITT: We talk about underrated Tokusatsu (Showa and/or Heisei)
I'll start. Ryujin Mabuyer. It's a bit on the cheap side but, it's a small production based on a local Okinawa hero. It's 36 episodes spread across three seasons. All available on HK boxsets. I give it a 7/10.
I doubt any underrated toku have subs, do they?
>>15366943
Generally, no. Stuff like Denjin Zaboga (older, not the modern one from Sushi Typhoon) and Kagestar still remains unsubbed.
Kabutack.
I was going through Ninja Captor's raws a while ago and it was more violent than I was expecting, which is awesome.
>>15366743
Ryujin Mabuyer also got adapted in Malaysia as Ryujin Juwara and it's cheap as hell like the original.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adUXLTv59Rc
>>15368169
So underrated that Toei won't even put it on DVD.
>>15369648
Not quite, the movies were put on DVD, but that's it.
>>15366743
Legend Heroes. The english subs is still ongoing.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL8lZeURETyi1ITXZX1_x35-TTNnMRCZwn
Advertised like a sentai ripoff while the story actually like kamen riders in a romance of the three kingdom mythos.
I like that it has at least one decent female fighter (and one goofball), but theykilled them off.and now it's asausage heavy youtube seriesjust like riders.
Super Robot Red Baron. Granted, it used to be kind of a big deal, since it got follow-ups in Mach Baron and Ganbaron, plus an anime remake (now with expensive blu-rays), but still, it's odd how the R1 releases aren't brought up much.
>>15370816
I think with Red Baron and Iron King, folks aren't willing to spend money on something they don't know anything about.
>>15372320
At least with Iron King, Tokusatsu-Fansub did care enough about it to sub the whole thing in French. Fair point though.
Kaiju Ouji seems pretty cool.
Tarzan Boy On Dino Island Fights Aliens
I think it shares some staff with Ambassador Magma (abridged into The Space Giants).
Saru no Gundan (aka Time of the Apes) is cool from what I've seen, same for Star Wolf (Fugitive Alien).
Captain Ultra has a cool robot sidekick.
>>15366943
>I doubt any underrated toku have subs, do they?
Not SO much. Byclosser is done. Changerion is active. I also add Hikaruon (anime, already done).
Why the FUCK hasn't the Tomica Hero Series been scrubbed yet?
Where is LION MAN/LION MARU?

Saiyuki story with kung fu fights
dubbed in the UK with pretty sharp writing
>>15372506
If you're seriously autistic enough that TVN's subpar subs can ruin a viewing experience for you, then you don't really deserve better. Especially not with that entitled attitude.
Some of us had to live through the age of HK subs and VHS quality just for the most popular shows. You aren't entitled to shit, especially not scrubs. Honestly you should be groveling at takenoko's feet, thanking TVN for subbing such a literally who show.
I fucking hate the effect that Magenta has had on the toku community. We used to be excited for the most humble of subfriends. We used to help each other. Now all we have is /krg/.
I want to go back.
>>15372543
>stab everything until it explodes to death
Exactly. To me, that was the essence of Showa era: violence at its finest
>>15372570
there was some manner of Maru dubbed in English a million years ago like OG Tekkaman
Wap buddy back in the day had an nth gen VHS of (iirc) Lion Man Maru. Maru beat up a bad guy until a big snake thing flew out of the body and it looked like a flying turd. And the girl jumped out of a tree and you could totes see up her skirt.
Looking back I think it was one of those "here's 2-3 episodes dubbed and we'll pretend they're a movie" releases
>>15372569
>This bait
I think Magenta is a whiny bitch, by the way.
>>15366743
I found out about Mabuyer a couple of days ago, which is WEIRD because it aired on Hawaiian TV back in 2012. And I'm a huge Toku nerd who lives in Hawaii so there's no way I should have missed this. I want to watch this, but I'm unsure about the HK subs quality. Plus the Mabuyer movie actually has good subs. I asked the TV channel that it aired on for more information, but they haven't gotten back to me yet.
>>15372610
>I'm a huge Toku nerd who lives in Hawaii
when can we expect you to upload subs
>>15372631
The show aired 5 years ago, and I wasn't aware of it at the time. So, unless they air the show again and I can find a way to hook up my cable box, or if I can find a friend who HAS saved the episodes... Probably not any time soon. Sorry, man.
The Mabuyer movie is already subbed online, though, so you can check that out at Nyaatorrents.
>>15372651
just subs in general
>>15366906
What a terrific assortment. Love it.
What's this "Evolver"? It's the only one from the pic I don't know. Looks cool as hell.
Is it a Local Hero thing?
>>15372662
Ah, even then, I probably won't be able to find anything. All of Generation Kikaida's stuff is floating online, and Toku on TV isn't as plentiful as it used to be. Although with Power Rangers becoming popular again and Kikaida celebrating its 45th anniversary this year, I'm hoping that'll change soon.
Also I speak the most basic moon language (and even then I'm rusty) so I probably won't be much help anyway.
As for my pick... I haven't watched it, but Shichisei Tōshin Guyferd looks right up my alley. It's a tokusatsu show from the late 90s that's produced by Capcom and Toho that's kinda like Guyver meets Fist of the North Star.
In other words, I have NO IDEA why only 10 of its 26 episodes have been subbed since it sounds AWESOME.
>>15372692
It's up to you if anything pops up.
Do you crazy spam eaters have indy vhs rentals still or something?
Do you have garage sales?
Have you broken into the homes of your neighbors on the off chance they have something?
Are you even trying?
>>15372704
>crazy spam eaters
I see so many spam musubis daily it's not even funny.
As for this... There's this comic shop a couple of blocks away from the one I work on Wednesdays, but the DVDs he lets people borrow are HK subs of ALREADY subbed shows (although I suppose I could dig deeper during my lunch break). Toku's pretty niche in the neighborhood I live (AKA that rich white neighborhood), so I haven't come across anything from my neighbors. I COULD try to find garage sales on the other side of the island, so I'll try to put up more of an effort. I'll check out the other shop tomorrow and see if I find anything.
>>15372589
?
You seem a lot more concerned with proclaiming your intelligence than actually discussing things, so why would you expect any of us to engage you?
>>15372744
Godspeed, Hawaiianon.
Here's hoping the sub ninjas don't get you.
>>15372521
Was I the only one who was bothered by the decision to not have Lion-Maru G take place in the then near future?
>>15372767
Shit, I mean the decision to have it take place in what was the near future at the time of its release rather than have it be part jidaigeki like the other two series.
>>15372777
I never really watched it because of that.
It was probably something interesting in its own way but I was really just looking for Ye Olde adventures.
>>15372569
Fun fact, Magenta was part of TV-N still even when people were shitting on them for doing incorrect translations.
>>15369949
there was some other Chinese thing that lifted from Kamen Rider wasn't there?
>>15372794
I gave it a try, but apart from not being too thrilled by the setting, it seemed that their idea of creating a series for adults was to be as crude and in your face as possible with the sex and toilet humor. It really was not my thing at the time and probably still isn't.
>>15372844
That makes me pretty happy, honestly. I fucking hate fansub elitist drama.
Be thankful for what we have, I say.
>>15373056
Honestly, I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting better and going for it when the opportunity presents itself.
It's just that nobody knows what polite criticism is, when to give up on a lost cause, and when to stop beating a dead horse.
Thankfully it doesn't really happen much outside of Kamen Rider or Super Sentai. Mainly since everything else is just lucky to get attention at all.
>>15373152
I understand wanting better when all you have is HKs, but when it gets to the point that people are calling TVN unwatchable, it's just really ungrateful entitlement.
I used to work for a sub group several years back and people have no idea how much work it takes to make that shit good. Modern anime fansubbing has spoiled everyone rotten.
All I'm saying is, why complain about TVN's subs and begging for scrubs when you could be begging for subs of something that doesn't even have HKs? It makes no sense to me.
How is Daimajin Kanon?
>>15373236
>All I'm saying is, why complain about TVN's subs and begging for scrubs
Even if TVN's subs were to specification, the fact of the matter is that the subs and the television raws for some of the shows in their repertoire are just old and need updating. Especially now that captions are a thing.
>>15373408
If you liked the first half of Kamen Rider Hibiki then you might enjoy it since it's got basically the same staff.
Although keep in mind, there are not that many fights in the show and Kanon's character arc takes a lot of patience.
>>15372767
I saw it weeks ago... It was nonsense, m8.
>>15372320
It's a shame, because Red Baron and Iron King are both top tier shows. Among my favorites.
Tiger Seven deserves more love and a full sub. It's so good.
>>15372587
>there was some manner of Maru dubbed in English a million years ago like OG Tekkaman
Impressive. Brazil also got a fully dubbed Lion Maru (the orange one) + a partially dubbed previous Lion Maru (the white one), causing some confusion about the continuity. They also released the first one in DVD.
>>15372531
>>15366906
As a Brazilian, I have fond memories of Cybercops. But I'll remember it forever as something hilarious due to the dub. "AGORA CHEGA!", anyone?
>>15369949
Never heard of it before, watching it now. Thanks anon.
On episode 3, and I like it. Episode 1 was pretty by-the-books, but I like how the second one tackled ideas rarely looked at in Tokusatsu, like using your powers to just help people out in general, and the fact that upgrades don't go as far without training or knowledge.
>>15373954
Tiger Seven might get done one day, if MBE and Hi No Tori eventually stop slowing each other down.
>>15372569
At least we got Sailor Otaku now, which I think is a pretty fair tradeoff. Wishing much luck to him on completing Exceedraft before June though.
>>15366743
No one's mentioned Voicelugger yet? You guys disappoint me.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voicelugger
>>15374580
Damn straight. He doesn't get nearly enough praise. He's one of the most consistent subbers of old toku and as far as I know, he does it by himself. Because of him, we're actually starting to build up a decent library of Metal Heroes subs.
I highly recommend Kodai Shoujo Dogu-chan and its sequel, Kodai Shoujotai Dogoon-V.
They're really underrated comedy toku series and who doesn't like heroes with big titties.
>>15372847
Armor Hero?
LINE THE BARBARIAN
HUGE, BUT A WIMP
How good is Gransazers and the rest of the chouseishun series? I don't I've ever heard anyone talk about it before
>>15374864
I only watched Gransazer. It started out cool with wire-fu and prop-mecha-dogfights but the writing later gets cliche and boring.
>>15372610
Cool. I'm a hawaii toku fan as well. I know there was an odd toku on channel 9, but by then they'd dropped pretty much all their staples, like shin-chan, so it was easy for me to miss. Too bad that one local toku never took off, huh.
>>15374864
I watched Justiriser. It's actually really good for about 25 episodes, but suddenly out of nowhere it gets really awful. It starts overplaying the comedy to the point where you can't even care about what's going on anymore.
Luckily enough, the show has essentially two parts, so there's a pretty fair stopping point once they kill the first arc villain.
>>15374874
>>15374992
Sounds like the trilogy is cursed then, unless Sazer X is entirely good.
>>15366743
>No mention of Spectreman
Disgusting. One of my personal favorites.
>>15375087
In fairness, the only way to watch the dub at the moment is on YouTube.
>>15375089
It's all there though. The dub isn't even bad either. Only real issue is that some scenes are cut out every once in a while.
>>15375094
True, but hey I'm glad Vintage Film And Sound provided releases that aren't split up or having watermarks on them.
>>15375099
Yeah, and the show is still as entertaining as ever. The message is heavy handed for the first few eps, but it's pretty much unparalleled in enjoyment factor. Dr. Gori to this day is one of the best Tokusatsu villains. I also love the unique sense near the end of the show of Gori becoming desperate, as if Spectreman grew from a nuisance to almost like his Freddy Krueger.
>>15375120
How Dr. Gori went out is something you don't see much of today, as well.Seriously, you don't see many toku shows that end with the main villain killing themselves, let alone broadcasted in the US.In a way, he is almost the main character.
>>15375120
Then there was the time he showed up in the Chromartie High Live Action
Almost none of this shit has subs or a torrent.
>>15372320
too bad because the r1 releases are only a few bucks each.
>>15375120
>>15375087
Gori's death was pure ALLAHU AKBAR. Terrorist as fuck.
>>15375673
English viewers will take years, maybe decades, to see these shows fully subbed.
Feels bad, man. ;_;7
>>15366743
Basically any long running local hero series. Phoenix Yatsurugi, Earth Liberators, and Beat Fighter ACE are fun ones. The KDU troupe is pretty good as well.
>>15366906
Kaiketsu Zubat. is the most based:

>>15372531
holy fuck this looks like fucking Rainbow six siege.
>>15375146
He was just as important to the story as Spectreman. Few Toku villains bring something to the table like he did, and yeah, hissuicidewas icing on the cake.
I loved how Spectreman always saw Gori'a potential. If Gori wasn't so obsessive and sociopathic, he could've advanced countless civilizations far beyond their years.
>>15375673
It's just something we have to deal with.
>>15377138
I know an older guy who dug this one when it aired. Another who was into Rainbow-man. Unless some local recorded it on vhs....
>>15377159 #
There are Denjin Zaborger raws up on Nyaa at least. You do have to look up the moonrunes though.
No idea of there's anything for Rainbowman.
>>15377138
It gets me that only the Sushi Typhoon movie is in English.

>>15375965

>>15377192
I'd be a little less asshurt if it weren't essentially just the first half of the story.
>>15377187
Same here.
I do like the movie, but it is essentially a parody.
>>15375965
In terms of suits, Cybercop has some E-Swat nuances.

Plus, the man himself showed up in Giant Robo's anime.
>>15378308
Ninjas lobbing grenades at giant monsters is possibly the greatest thing ever.
>>15378333
That reminds me, there is also Demon Hunter Mitsurugi, in which three ninjas combine to fight giant stop-motion monsters.
>>15378341
I saw the first episode of that a long while back and thought it was pretty neat. I dunno why I never got around to watching the rest of it.
Does anyone like Hakaider?

Looks Terminator 2 2.0 with Mad Gallant. :^D
>>15372847
Yeah, that's armor hero. They also have the giant saver series as well/. It's cheesy as hell, but it's still cool to watch.
>>15378657
It's the Commando of toku; nothing much makes any sense at all, but the action is badass. Even got an R1 release.
>>15378691
>>15378707
Neat. Can someone tell me if there are any subs/DDLs around?
>>15372692
I was so pissed when I got into the show, only to find out only the first 10 episodes were subbed. It really brought me back to the classics like Kikaida and Kamen Rider.
>>15369949
Same anon as >>15374350 , on episode 7 now.
I like it still, but it already abandoned it's main rule: The tournament rule is that when someone loses a Final Battle (when they use mechs), their little token guy is destroyed and they lose the game. The protags have literally lost it twice, and have been beaten so bad that they've been unmorphed. The current badguys lost the Final Battle and they clearly failed in the same way the previous villains did, yet somehow they're back in the next episode like nothing happened.
The show is fun and comfy, but I don't understand how the rules apply anymore.
>>15381267
>unmorphed
Leave it to the powerfaggots to be this retarded.
>>15381267
Not that anon but have watched it til the latest episode. So far just losing the (final) battle didn't outright mean losing, but losing AND get their transformation device destroyed do, In one of the battleit even killed the user, not just his dream
But don't worry too much about it. The rules apply when the writer said it applies.
