Your picture is of the Full Armor Gundam, or FAG for short. It's the main Gundam of Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt Season 1, or the first part of the manga.

The Atlas Gundam replaces the FAG in the second part.

All they wanted was to take down the Federation so they could be in charge instead of them,but in a fascit/totalitarian way, and the whole "spacenoid freedom" was a fallacy to rally up as many people as posible, which didn't work at the end since none of the other sides joined them, they stayed neutral, probably in fear of being exterminated by them, or team up with the Federation
