***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

**MELEE GROUP BUILD**

Build/paint a robot with a loadout focused on melee combat! Anything from shields to swords to lances to axes to bare fists is fair game. There's no room for ranged weaponry here, however, so anything resembling a rifle, Rocket Launcher, cannon, pistol, or any other ranged weapon is a no-go (Small ranged weapons that are built into the kit itself like head vulcans are ok, however).

More clarification here:
>If the body part has a built-in ranged weapon (head/chest vulcans, claw beams, etc), then that's fine. If it's a separate part like the Alex's arm vulcans it's best to leave those off.
>Melee weapons with in-universe ranged capabilities (Like the Kimaris's lance or the Gyan's shield) are fair game too.
>Any scale and any brand is fair game here, you're not limited to just using Gundams this time around.

What's that kit you always play with, making new cool poses with and generally move around a lot? I play a lot with my RG Raiser and Zaku, and my Zaku was the first kit I ever built and I always go back to him and fix all those rookie mistakes I did with him. Recently one of the hip joints broke so I'm sort of sad about that, but thankfully I can just pretend its okay by just having the leg stand on it's own under the skirt. I guess thats the consequence of moving joints too much over a long period of time.

That doesn't make any sense, Alex's arm vulcans are built into the forearms. That's one of it's most defining features

>>15354414
You can just take out the vulcan piece and replace it with a wrist-mounted beam-sabre. That way you can leave in the vulcan-shroud and keep the silhouette the same.

Until now, I only panel line gunpla, but I want to level up my game. I already ordered a compressor and airbrush to paint a landman rodi as my first painted kit. So what kind of paints and tool I need to achieve something like this?
Also, for melee weapons(steel not beam) and frame, what kind of paint is easy to use for beginner?
>>
What are good, small, batteries for LED's? Watch batteries require a pair and tend to die really quickly.
>>
>>15355993
Pretty sure its going to be like their "Air" lines which are still water based and handbrushable, they just come prethinned. According to the facebook page it looks like they're aiming for a release of them this year. Its seems that they created the line to address complaints from gunpla and similar articulated mecha models that vallejo can be rubbed off at the joints too easily or scratch with handling, so they made "Mech Color" to be more scratch resistant and faster curing/drying.
>>
>>15355678
Can confirm. Got my first kit after watching the first few episodes of BF.
>>
>>15355686
>Turns out it's a regular release.
FUCK YEAH!!!
>>
>>15355995
It depends on where you live. I use thinned GW paints (As they're all I can get easily) which are acrylics. I'd recommend Vajello air line paints if you can get your hands on them, though. You'll need a base coat and top coat as well. The metal effect seems to be from drybrushing rather than airbrushing, which is a hand painting technique.
>>
>>15355993
Air paints can be hand brushed. The only difference between brush paints and air paints is the default thickness. Everything else is fine.

I have paints from every range Vallejo have and can airbrush or hand brush either fine.
>>
>>15356276
>>15356022

Well that's a relief. Do you think it will be strong enough to use on joints or is that just a bad idea with acrylics in general?
>>
>>15355678
The real solution is to make a God Gundam 2.0 and use the inner frame for Build Burning.
>>
>>15356350
Like I said in my previous post, Vallejo made these with the goal of them being stronger and more durable than their regular line. No idea how strong they will be until released, but for joints you are fairly boned no matter the paint you use as plastic on plastic rubbing will always wear off the paint on the contact areas. Just sand the area a bit before you paint to increase the clearance.

If there's any twisting at the gate when you're removing the parts, there'll be stress marks, even if you use a branded nipper.

After sanding progressively to 800 or 1000 grit, you need to polish it to get back the injection molded plastic finish. Use tamiya polishing compound, autosol, brasso or even some brands of whitening toothpaste.

Sometimes you get a mark that is darker than the plastic, this is not a stress mark

>>
>>15359754
Sometimes you just get unlucky and it's impossible to get rid of. You can only ever really minimize it if you don't want to paint your parts.

I usually don't get many by using steps previously mentioned, making sure to snip far away from the part before close.

Also on marks that don't come away cleanly with the knife I use the knife at an angle to scrape it slowly which sometimes gets rid of any sprue marks.

I really only file+sand when I'm preparing parts for painting.

You can't go wrong with the RX-78-2 Revive kit while you're at it. It's a really good kit for beginners and folks just getting back into the hobby. Not very detailed, very few stickers, basic panel lined, and only a couple painted bits, makes for a kit that's really easy to get looking good with some basic detail work and a top coat.
>>
>>15359042
>>15359842

I wouldn't worry about it, I just got the memehands and they blew me away with how much better they are than what I was using earlier, but there are still stress marks after xacto shaving and sanding on my kits as well.

Generally they're so small that as a display they won't bother you, especially if you can minimize the whitening / paint / topcoat / etc

I need help /gpg/
I lost my best friend this past year when he died of heart failure.
His family gave me a bunch of his plastic model backlog, and I haven't touched it since they gave me it 4 months ago.
To be honest I haven't touched any gunpla at all, aside from buying more.
Every time I try to get back to building I just end up staring at the box and I eventually just put it away after 20 minutes of just sitting there.

Any advice?

Guys, I've been having trouble with my airbrush lately. I've used it once and I think I fucked up by not cleaning it right.

I tried using it yesterday to practice preshading but when I ran some water to test it out nothing but air came out. I took it apart and cleaned it as best I could and when I put it back together the air would start coming up into the paint cup. I looked around online and tried various fixes but nothing has worked so far, I think the problem is the nozzle, after I took it off it wont stay on securely.

I have no clue what to do anymore. Should I just look up if there's anywhere near me that can fix airbrushes?
>>
>>15362117
What airbrush are you using?
>>
>>15362117
What kind of paint did you shoiot through it?

Take of the nozle and let it sit in a cup of airbursh cleaner for a day. See if that helps.

If air is coming up through the cup then the air cant escape on the front and your nozzle is probably clogged.

>>15362117

Yeah I'm not sure what colour to use. I think I used a dark grey and a gunmetal as well as the colours in the tamiya weathering set g on the beige pieces (salmon/caramel/chestnut). I also think it's "enough" on the yellow pieces, I was a bit afraid of going too heavy with it.

Don't know what would be more noticeable on the green pieces or if I should just go slightly heavier on them with the same colours.

Am I the only one who seems to find imperfections in parts when sanding? Example completely flat part other then what looks like molding seam lines. Sand them off and theres one spot that is sunk just enough that sanding doesn't touch it unless you sand just that spot?

Hard to explain, but came up lately with my barbatos rex leg armor. Everything else sands flush but this one spot. Not first time to happen either. That or shallow lines that didn't seem printed well that may need scribed in order to be noticeable.
>>
>>15362202
Oh hey, I'm using that airbrush and compressor too.

If nothing but air is coming out of the nozzle then the airbrush is clogged, and you'll likely need tiny pipe cleaners dedicated to airbrushes to clean it properly. The wrench that comes with your airbrush will unscrew the nozzle, and use the pipe cleaner and soapy water/airbrush cleaner/lacquer thinner to clean out the nozzle fully.

https://www.amazon.com//dp/B00V99LU78/
This is the airbrush cleaning brush I use, and
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7wLgAWBiLg
gives a pretty good demonstration on how to disassemble it and put it back together.

Make sure you properly thin and clean afterwards in the future.

>>
>>15362735
Cheaper airbrushes like the G22 also have rubber o-rings in the nozzle and connectors, so be sure those don't dissolve in cleaner, or replace them somehow. The o-ring may be dissolved if that's the case. I'm trying to replace mine with rolled-up teflon tape, but it may not work.

It's fine. I've tried this multiple times, but I can't replicate the results.

It really just means that I don't need to try so hard, if they're unavoidable. I've been spending more time sanding than I have everything else combined. Less agonizing over being careful just means that I can enjoy the process more.

Master Airbrushes have serious problems with their O-ring durability, as much as tightening the nozzle cap too tightly can cause it to split and prevent a solid seal. If it doesn't seal properly the air flow won't be able to suck up the paint from the cap via vacuum action.

Also the G-22 comes with a 3.5mm nozzle as standard, which are very prone to jams especially when your acrylic paints don't flow well enough. A few drops of paint retarder will help that.

Would this be viable for topcoating models, by the by? Mr. Hobby may take some time to come via amazon, and there's no longer a modelling shop where I live in Leeds.

My advice is still to leave more nub on the piece before filing (when you cut close to the piece is when you get stress marks), that way you get better results. Even so sometimes you're just out of luck and you get a stress mark.

I personally paint all my kits and that completely erases them anyway so I don't worry about it too much, but I do hate when it happens, however rarely it may be.
>>
>>15359480
Really looking forward to building it yeah. Last year I bought my very first kit at the same place and that was a Banshee, so I figured that a Unicorn would be a good anniversary build.

Go read the guide again and check out others on the internet liek falldog's. Use thin layers instead of smearing the kit under with paint.

Also did you paint with the kit assebled? If so you really should disassemble the thing and paint it part by part.

People here will be harsh to you, but you seem to take the criticism well, still don't forget we are only trying to help you improve. You DO need a lot of improving though.

Nu doesn't have the wrist gun. Just a saber rack on the left arm. It also doesn't have a rack of any sort to recharge the funnels. The funnels are holding each other side by side with the last one holding on to that round thing its backpack.

Built-in weapons are fair game, but if you want to cover them up then that's your choice

>>15365415
Fists are melee anon. As long as you hold a determination to fist you're alright for the build.

Gotcha. I didn't really plan on painting anything outside of the gold parts since the gold plastic is kind of piss yellow, but that's good to know.

How's the RG Red Frame?
I'm interested on getting both it and the upcoming Gold Frame edge custom
Any issues I should know?
>>
>>15365943

I think no issues coming to this kit. Build was nice, color separation is great.

Go for the RG gold frame amatsu.

Behold the thunderbolt Zock, Ed boys.

The thunderbolt Zock is actually a thing and it looks nothing like this. Still, could just as well have looked like yours.

I should really fix that embed.

I prefer anon's redesign over Thunderbolt's, honestly.

Just snapped everything but the sword last night. I'll get the sword done, panel line, then decal it later this week.
>>15365943
Outside of getting it snapped last night, I like it so far. It was a fast and easy build. All the possible nubs marks are hidden behind other pieces, and the frame is basically preassembled and cut from the runners. The varying shades of red for the kit as a whole all look really nice, and it's easy to pose once you figure out the hip joint/ab crunch.
