Not gonna watch, doesn't look like there's enough action

Kind of sad that they had a 30 year old play a teenage kid.

Disgusting
>>
Heard he is going to make a cameo, can't say I am excited to see his midlife crisis on screen.
>>
>>15351214
When is this new? They always use older people to play teenagers.
>>
This organic scrapyard shit is such a turnoff. The charm of the Zords is that you actually buy into the fact that they combined together, even though the Megazord suit looked boxy as shit, I could still buy into the fact that gattai happened.
It was fucking cool when you actually assembled the Megazord with the toys.

Fucking shit. 2 hours of build up for 10 minutes of mediocre action at the end. Entire movie feels overly dramatic and all off the dialogue was written by out of touch middle aged execs wearing backwards baseball caps. Rita is a shit tier villan and the only enjoyable rangers to watch are blue and black. To the writers autistic just means likable character. All of the weird jump cuts make it feel like the movie is 10 different movies cramped together into one cancerous montage. I swear the most frustrating thing though is just how little action there is and how underwhelming it is when you see it. They only fight in their suits for 3 MINUTES TOPS against fucking grunts, before they jump into their zords. They fight in the separate zords for most of the action and you'll see the megazord for like 5 minutes where it's hard to even tell what's on screen. It's frustrating because there are moments in where you can see glimpses of something good under the piles of gold and shit, but it's just not enough. Everything gets dragged down by how serious they try to be.

postive shit though is
the dynamic between red and blue is goat
black ranger is fun to watch
they play the theme when they get first get into their zords and it's probably the only moment in the entire movie where you'll feel genuine hype. The song stops after 10 seconds though and kanye's 2006 smash hit POWER kicks in and shit just goes downhill from there.

>>
>>15351854
Shirow wrote a series called Mobile Armored Riot Police. The series people would be asking him about is something called Ghost in the Shell. He doesn't give a shit.

The real answer is that
a.) He has spitballed a series called Neuro Heat that was basically GitS set in New York, so that Americans would like it since it would have an all white cast
b.) He's too busy drawing greasy banana boobs to give a shit about any of this anymore.

As far as Oshii's concerned, the GitS movie looks like what a Japanese person would assume an American movie would look like (white people, guns, explosions, little to no real plot), so it looks like what they'd expect to see.
>>
I liked that they actually had to control the separate parts of the robot, and had struggles doing it instead of just "well, we're magically able to perfectly synchronize," but I felt that they resolved this too quickly and had synchronization way too good for 5 teenagers who just got in a combined robot for the first time when they did that back crush move. I also liked that the Gurdian Beasts/Zords actually got some screen time fighting instead of showing up and immediately combining. I was pretty disappointed by the lack of action, but what was there did look pretty cool, and hopefully the 5 FUCKING SEQUELS will have more action now that the origin story part is done. Overall, I thought it was actually pretty enjoyable, despite it's flaws.

Honestly, the more and more I think about this film, the more and more it upsets me as it does. Screen junkies I believe said it best, other films have done what it set out to try to do but much better.

As an origin film, it seems like it tries way too hard to try to set up a franchise (it is like Ghostbusters 2016 in this case) and when it tries to be character driven, it only gives you a tiny glimpse into its finite possibility (like Trini) but as a film on it's own, it doesn't give what it sets out to do a conclusion.

A story should have a beginning, middle, and an end. But here the problem is that it only cares about the beginning, and somewhat of a middle, but the ending has not been written. Looking at this film as something self-contained, it leaves me wanting more. Making a comparison, it is most definitely like Digimon Adventure Tri part 1. It tries to make me want to have "more" with the later installments, but since that is two (?) years away at least, it will be along while before it grabs my attention (movie 3, if we go a literal comparison of Adventure Tri)

The film makes me want to desire more, but not in the good way.

Don't drag Tri down by comparing it to a sequel grab movie.

What I didn't like about the movie

>Zordon's personality got completely changed. He's no longer a wise mentor, he's a selfish asshole who has no faith on the new rangers
>Kanye West's POWER plays during the Zords' fight scene, not the MMPR theme. The MMPR theme only plays for 16 seconds when the rangers get on their zords, before the battle.
>No poses
>No random explosions behind the rangers
>Goldar doesn't explode when defeated
>Actually, Goldar's defeat made no sense, they just stab him once and he dies even though it was made clear previously that he can regenerate
>Could've replaced Billy's bully with Bulk and Skull

What I did like
>Alpha is pretty based. He's excited about the new rangers and has faith on them, unlike Zordon. He's also strong and trains the rangers
>The characters were alright and their interactions were fun. Billy was the best character
>The zords looked pretty good in motion and we get to see them all being useful individually before forming the megazord
>The megazord slapping Rita
>Rita was pretty bland, but she was threatening and pretty damn powerful, so I guess that's fine for a villain

You only get a heavily processed version of the iconic theme for like ten seconds when they board the Zords. The actual fight tune for the Megazord is fucking Kanye West's "Power."

I'm not kidding.
>>
>>15351854

Why would whatever cabal want to fool the world in to believing a manga artists was still alive? Why would they do it by hiring ghost writers to primarily concentrate on porn comics?
>>
There's a rumor about it being a 6 movie arc, does the story even set up for that?
>>
>>15357572
>The actual fight tune for the Megazord is fucking Kanye West's "Power."
False. That song is used when they're fighting int he Zord separately. The Megazord just gets some instrumental score as backup.

Well, Rita isn't dead. The sixth ranger has been teased, and a big plot point is the "Zeo Crystal". Rita also warns the Rangers that "others will come" for the crystal, and that they haven't truly won. So yeah, I'd say there's enough setup for plenty of sequels.

Here's hoping for a sequel with Finster as the main villain, sending out waves of redesigned monsters from the original series.

Hopefully all not designed with the same mindset as Goldar aka based on Chocolate fountain.
>>
>>15357903
I'd like the movie to start with some random aliens coming to earth for the crystal, ones that the Rangers have to beat one by one. I'd like a sense that this is just kind of the natural thing in Angel Grove now. Then once we've had enough of that, then Rita can come back and start the Green Ranger shit.

Grew up with Power Rangers, Last decent ranger season was Jungle Fury. Looked at the trailer and synopsis and the run time. Not gonna waste my money on an obvious nostalgia boner wank. Suits look overly realistic, zords designs got the Bayformers treatment and made them look dumb, Megazord looks like a massive mess. Hated how every review for the movie put so much emphasis on the fact theres a gay ranger.

All in all, not gonna watch in in theaters or buy it when it comes out on dvd/bluray.

Well give the details man, is it some Transformium bullshit but done as a vortex?
>>
>>15351230
His entire existence has been a midlife crisis.
>>
>>15358141
You see parts of the transformation, but none of it is very explicit. Goldar pushes the Zords into a flaming pit, so the sequence is a bit obscured by flames, but you do see several shots of mechanical pieces shifting and fusing together. Then there's a shot from behind as the Megazord rises from the flames and more pieces on its body continue to move and lock into place. Specifically the Ptera Zord slides up and onto the back and the wings collapse in. Then it emerges from the plume of smoke and you see it from the front for the first time.
>>
>>15357903
>yfw they redo the SatanFranken episodes
That shit was nightmare fuel on a low budget, imagine how terrifying it could be with actual money behind it.

Then again, it would probably end up looking like something that's trying it's best to be horrifying but isn't actually horrifying at all.
>>
>>15358179

No wonder the toys and the design itself are so fucked then.
>>
Went to the movie alone, ended up running into two guys in line who were pretty cool and got to watch next to them and comment on the movie, that improved things a bit.

The movie was...Okay. I liked the main cast as characters, though there were moments I didn't enjoy with them, like the fact they are all misfits and troublemakers. Their chemistry was good though.

Pretty much everything bad about the movie is already mentioned. Goldar, the Megazord, the fighting scene, Rita. It was all pretty depressing. I mean, fuck, the Putties were generic lumps of rock and the Rangers needed their Zords to fucking fight Putties. Rita was threatening, but kind of dull and uninteresting, she just looked like a generic lady bad guy instead of an evil witch. Zordon was a fucking asshole, which put me off.

The Zords on their own were fine I guess, in motion you don't really notice the garish designs, and it was neat to have so much focus on their individual forms. I won't touch on the Megazord, since that is all just...ugh.

The fucking cheesy moments made me groan, Alpha saying "go go power rangers", Rita saying "make my monster grow", Krispy Kreme, "It's morphin time!" stuff like that, it was very obvious and face palm worthy references. Also the unnecessary comedy moments, I get it, it's Power Rangers, it's got comedy, but having the Megazord trip in it's introduction during a supposed serious scene was groan worthy.

Also the after credits scene, YES WE GET IT, TOMMY IS GONNA BE IN THE SEQUEL, DON'T REPEAT HIS NAME FIVE TIMES
>>
I liked it. I thought it was pretty good. I know it isn't like the show, and doesn't pander towards megafans like Stinkara, but honestly I liked it.
>>
>>15351200
In general I enjoyed it.
Was much better than I expected it to be.

Granted there were things I wish they did as a fan of the series and the designs are shit, but I came into the theater ready to hate it and left the theater feeling 6 years old again so I don't really mind.

Except not showing the zord transformation.
You just DONT do that shit, that's the most hype moment in all of power rangers and is a staple scene to have in your series, how the fuck do you NOT show people it's transformation?

I can only guess it's because they couldn't figure out who to make those shitty designed zords change into that shitty designed clusterfuck
>>
Every time I see this new megazord, I get the feeling that someone saw how solid 2016 Voltron looked, but at the same time didn't understand WHY 2016 Voltron looked solid.

This is impossible of course, given how long this was probably in production and when Voltron came out, but I just can't help but feel this way.
>>
>>15358279
I still don't understand why Western shitters are incapable of designing decent looking mechs, especially the turds they call heads.

A head makes or breaks a mech design in most cases.
>>
Went with 2 friends and experienced the american clapping in movie theater meme for the first time. It was better than I thought but the buildup for them to finally transform is long as fuck. The best character is Billy (probably because he seems to get the most focus for some reason, and being the reason everything happens to begin with) followed by zack. yellow ranger is thick as fuck. didn't care much for the other 2
>>
>>15358345
I think it's because mechs and giant robots have never been really a "thing" in the West, outside of anime. Combined with Western designers going for "realistic" rather than "cool looking" its a bad mix

The suits kinda grew on me after seeing them so many times. The zord on the other hand could've been designed better.
>>
>>15353366
>"The idea is the Zords are machines that take on the form of the most powerful organisms of the planet they're on. When these Zords came to Earth, dinosaurs reigned supreme and so they took on the image and the spirit of these dinosaurs - that's the mythology that we've put into the movie. But in the concept that we've created they're meant to be inspired by those animals - not an actual, literal, version of it, and so we decided we wanted to take certain liberties, too.

>The other component of it is almost more of a practical component. We look at these renderings and we create a 3D space and we look at how they should move, and you learn a lot from that. And the mastodon is so big that we realized that with added legs it would just move better in a CG environment, and we'd be able to make it a more nimble machine. So it felt kind of like practical; if you were an alien creating this machine, you would want those added limbs."
>>
>>15358667
Trini. Like I said, it's just a sentence or two. It's not a big deal at all.
>>
>>15358742
Yeah, I actually kind of like the suits now after seeing the movie. Fuck, they need a new Megazord though.
>>
>>15358780
Honestly that makes some sense to me. Then again I was never really all that against the alien interpretations of the animals in the first place.
>>
>>15355222
Not the other guy, but yeah. It's cheesy as all fuck, but that's what I liked about the show, so I had fun at the movie.
It's not great. But it's a good time.
If say its greatest strength is that it is a character driven movie. Not just the stock bullshit of Transformers.
All the characters are fleshed out, flawed, and developed. It makes is much better to actually root for the team instead of the robots.
That other faggot is just an ass-blasted teenager who just wants more mindless robot "action" like he gets out of Transformers. And this was a much better treatment of the 90s toy commercials than Micheal Bay ever was of his 80s toy commercial.

>But in the concept that we've created they're meant to be inspired by those animals - not an actual, literal, version of it, and so we decided we wanted to take certain liberties, too.
It's one thing to be "inspired" by a particular animal, hell the Original Mastodon and Triceratops Zords had plenty of liberties already taken what with one having stampy robot feet and the other BEING A FREAKING TANK, it's another to be an entirely different physiology of creature.

>>15358929
>Yeah, I actually kind of like the suits now after seeing the movie. Fuck, they need a new Megazord though.
I think they retooled the helmets in post, since they all look a little more like the originals and thus better differentiated...

But yeah, let's give the Zords the same treatment, namely the Mastodon and Triceratops legs, and use that as an excuse for the Megazord's new look.

By making him a long Chinese sort of dragon with a hundred centipede legs or something probably.
>>
>>15359038
>I honestly don't even care that the Zords look weird. I'm fine with the strange alien designs.
That's the weird thing though, I'd be fine if they were just alien animals, there have been stranger Zords before...

It's that they ONLY went with strange alien physiologies for TWO of the Zords, while the other three are simply mechanized/weaponize versions of prehistoric EARTH creatures.

They added extra legs just for the sake of making the design different, and if you're Nostalgia pandering that's the exact opposite of what you should be doing.

It's like if you made a Live Action version of the original Mobile Suit Gundam, and you decided Amuro should pilot a super Guntank the entire time.

>I just would liked to have seen their shapes translate into the Megazord's silhouette better.
Hence why I think an in-universe retooling could be the answer; Billy and Alpha 5 overhauled the Zords to operate combined better which resulted in a newer, more heterogeneous Mega Zord, and while they were at it Billy's autism had him put the correct number of legs on his and Zack's Zords.

All in all, it was very enjoyable. I think the beginning could have been cut down a little bit to make a bit more room for out of suit fighting. They did not fight nearly enough in the suits. The characters all felt pretty good, nothing came off as forced; not even the autistic black character- in fact he was top tier. The villain was a bit dumb, but that's power ranger territory. The jokes were funny, and the action sequences that did happen were good. The ending felt kinda sudden- its just them back in detention.

I'd give it a 7.5/10

Pros
>characters are pretty good
>good fight scenes
>good jokes
>good fun

Cons
>not enough fighting (out the mech)
>movie wraps up suddenly
>no poses
>no explosions behind them
>no transformation sequence

>>
Just saw the movie and was amazed, simply amazed, at how much it didn't suck.It was everything I could've asked for with the exception of Zack being pretty underdeveloped and the Megazord just sort of happening out of nowhere.

Two questions:
1.) Why were there only five sets of footprints on the ship if there was a sixth (green) ranger?

2.) Whatever happened to Billy's mom's van? Did she just never ask him about it?

I actually trust Saban to not fuck up with the inevitable sequels. He loves this shit, and it shows. Him being in charge of these movies is like competent, 1970's Stan Lee coming to the present-day and working on the Marvel movies.

I think everything's going to be alright.
>>
>>15364600
Also, playing Zordon off as an ex-Ranger and intergalactic Walter White-tier manipulator was pretty cool, and his change of heart felt legit.

I loved this movie.
>>
>>15364600
>1.) Why were there only five sets of footprints on the ship if there was a sixth (green) ranger?
Rita-as-Green Ranger could have been a late addition to Zordon's team the way Tommy-as-Green Ranger was a late addition to the original show.
>2.) Whatever happened to Billy's mom's van? Did she just never ask him about it?
She'd probably believe it was stolen rather than believe her sperg-tastic little son could have stolen it and blown open a mountain.

I also agree that Zack was pretty underdeveloped. But both he and Trinni were playing second fiddle to Jason/Kimberly/Billy and while the movie did a good job as an ensemble piece, there's only so much screen time to go around.
At least he did get SOME development by gaining the courage to spend more time with his mom instead of running from her problem that she can't get away from.

Well if anyone of the Rangers would be tinkering with the Zords, traditionally it would be Billy, and as far as I can tell, Movie Billy is the only one nitpicky enough to have issue with the number of legs on the robots...

It also gives an excuse to give the Zords some upgraded weaponry!

I'll be honest. I actually kinda liked it. But it's not without its problems.

The good: I liked the time they put to the characters and you genuinely care for them. That they all have real world problems. I liked the training and how their sprite as a team helps them morph.

I loved all the call backs to the original series and how they played with the lore to work in the film universe's context.

Now for the not so good: It suffers a bit of Godzilla 2014, for all the build up in a 2 hour movie they are in the suits and Zords for less than 20 minutes. I would have loved some stuff where they morph but its not fully powered up. I would have loved some goon monsters other than the putties.

I hated Goldtar(Goldar), personally I would have liked him to be more of a character.

The Mega Zord design is terrible. It clearly was meant to be a Bayformers Optimus Prime knock off. You could have gotten the look of the original with those Zords and not made it look like crap. For all their plays on nostalgia they couldn't have it finish with the old Megazord Slash?

Over all I'd give it a 6/10. Enjoyable with the characters and plays on nostalgia but painfully average on everything else.

On a $40.5 Million opening weekend? Unlikely. China's not going to step in to save this like it did for Pacific Rim. Basically the only hope for a sequel is if toy sales are good enough to justify it. To be fair, since they're using "new" designs they don't have to split the toy money with another company like they normally do, so it is plausible if still unlikely. Then again, the toys are awful, but then again again, kids don't care. So I guess we'll see, but I think it's down to toy sales.

General rule of thumb for big budget movies is that they need to make twice their budget to cover the cost of making, marketing, and distributing the movie and still make a profit. With that opening weekend it's extremely unlikely that Power Rangers can reach $200 million worldwide, which is what it needs to beat the rule-of-thumb number for profitability.

They need to have much better than expected staying power in the US and much better than expected openings in Japan and China to break even on this movie.

Like I said in >>15366803, if anything can save the franchise then it's most likely to be toy sales, and I have doubts about even that. Even cheerleading as much as I am for this movie, I'm finding it hard to be optimistic about these numbers.

Right. Speaking of the after credits scene, is it clear what causes that explosion into the hallway that makes Billy go "my bad!" or whatever? Or are you just meant to guess? I was trying to make it relate to the Tommy shit we had just seen, but maybe I'm thinking about it too much.

turns out he found jesus after almost everyone from the original show hated his guts because of how shitty he treated David Yost (billy). A lot of the producers and even saban himself made fun of of yost for being gay and brought him down, but Jason David Frank took shit to a whole new level.

From physically assaulting him on set, throwing shit at him constantly, literally calling him every single gay slur you can think of (which inspired the production to just stop calling david 'david' and refer to him only as "queer-o") and even (literally) shit on him during the production of the movie.

He had a semi falling out with most of the cast after billy had his super breakdown (Thuy Trang never really liked frank, which is part of the reason he didnt go to her funeral, and was always the one hanging out with yost).

After a while, he found god and shit and had his 'mid life 'christist' if you will, and went full repentance. he eventually made up with everyone, even yost, but all of the shit he does he basically says is to help make up for how he was a complete dick during his original power ranger days.

He still has MAJOR rage issues and is still seeing help for it. Didnt stop him from punching some dudes teeth out who touched his bag though.

Everyone agreed that Thuy was very kind. I'm pretty sure nobody's gonna attend JDF's funeral because of his massive ego. Even his own daughter doesn't give a fuck about him.

But Saban had nothing to do with that pitch. That's why "Saban" is in quotes in the title, and Toonmakers isn't. They went through Renaissance Atlantic, Toei's American branch essentially, but that's as close they got corporate-wise. Sure that proposal sucks shit, but to be fair even Toei knew it sucked in the 90s, and they greenlit MASKED RIDURR. Makes me appreciate DiC's dub more by comparison

Haim Saban is a well known piece of shit and you shouldn't give him a dime. This movie is bad at every level.

>A classic Hollywood story involves (((Gene Simmons))) of Kiss. In the late ’90s, as co-owner of the Fox Family Channel, Saban was developing shows for children. Simmons, the fire-breathing, blood-spitting frontman of a rock band in costumes and face paint, pitched Saban an idea for a new Saturday-morning cartoon: Kiss meets X-Men, the Marvel comics superhero team. Saban liked the concept well enough to convene a meeting with Avi Arad, then C.E.O. of Marvel’s toy division.

>At the appointed time, Saban, Arad, and Simmons sat down. The meeting was going well, and the three began to haggle over numbers. Then Saban turned to Arad and, referring to Simmons, confided in Hebrew, “Now we gut him like a fish.” Without missing a beat, Simmons—who, unbeknownst to Saban, was born Chaim Witz in Haifa, Israel—replied in Hebrew, “You ass hole. I’m one of you.”
>>

I don't understand why people this kind of thing. Make enough money to fund the next cool thing you're planning, leave enough to pay the people who help you make it come to fruition decently.

I know 4chan likes to turn this into a "DA JEWS" thing, but it's really an American business thing (and everyone who really gets involved in managing money seems to exhibit it). Scrape for every cent possible, no matter what it does to the unquantifiables, and if you're not screwing someone over, you're getting screwed. I really hate that mindset. I've given relatively large sums (in relation to my income) to friends who needed help, some of whom I'd later have falling outs with; I never regretted losing the money, only the friendship. Some people give away tons of dosh to charity knowing they're going to take the standard deduction anyway. That kind of thing makes the world a better place and enables great things with far more consistency than shady backroom production deals and lobby incessantly for more (narrowly) advantageous regulatory/tax policy.

Sorry to /pol/, this shit's been on my mind lately. You want to be responsible with money, but it's kind of a normal curve with the y-axis being net positive outcome for society.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. I was saying that the fact that Section 9 is trusted with securing Japanese interests and its members are willing to do some pretty low-down, dirty stuff on orders for their government means that they're fanatically loyal on some level. Which would suggest that they're all very much Japanese.

People doing all these silly mental gymnastics to exonerate a fucking movie studio. Just accept that the Major is supposed to be Japanese but Hollywood gonna Hollywood when it comes to race.
>>
>>15370549
>Surprised Saban did that. He could've been sued for harassment. That's a real unprofessional move on his part.
You mean the guy who enmass emailed every single power ranger that ever worked for him for a chance to cameo on the every ranger episode from Gokaiger (complete with tons of typos), which basically said they would be extras, have to pay half the ticket and all room would be on them, then 2 weeks later told almost all of em to fuck off because he just wanted his core 10 and the others that said 'sure' to his idea was the 'backup' if any of his core 10 said no.

Or when he stopped Karan Ashley (the black yellow ranger) on the red carpet premier of the original power rangers movie and told her the +1's use the side entrance, and that the red carpet was for main cast and head crew (producers, director, etc). She told him "mr saban... im one of the main actors in the movie... im the yellow ranger". He looked at her bewilderingly and and muttered "I didnt know we allowed your kind to become rangers" and walked off.

That's a receding hairline. It sometimes happens to black women (well, any women, but mostly black) who have to wear weave and tightly braided curls. Basically kills your follicles over time. It happens to dudes who too (even those who don't have male pattern baldness) but sometimes it's less noticeable because men tend to have flatter foreheads (which catch the light differently).

Honestly, I felt that in the moment it didn't feel too out of place. Especially when a bunch of other pop/hip-hop songs had been sprinkled throughout the entire movie up until that point. None of it felt obnoxious to me though, strangely. I usually hate it when movie soundtracks break into pop songs and shit, but I feel like it was actually moderately well done here and it happened often enough that I didn't think it was jarring either.

I can't recall the specifics, so I won't say you're wrong, but it came across to me like Trini was just trying to warn her friends. She wasn't very smart about it, but that's how it came across to me.

If what you're saying is what happened, and it could be, it's just a weird plot hole.
>>
>>15373065
it was more like what you thought
>>
>>15373057
It's really weird, for most of the movie they play her as the victim who was shunned from her group of friends who are portrayed as stereotypical bitchy cheerleaders. Then when they reveal what really happened they play it like you're still supposed to feel bad for her because she feels so awful about it. I don't know who thought it was a good idea.

>>15373062
The friend who took it sent it to her. I don't know why she would do that, as far as I know friends don't send those to each other, but they emphasize that she broke her trust by not keeping it private.
>>
>>15373057
>>15373062
>>15373071
It was basically played off to be a Lindsay Lohan style mean girls vibe that has ruined her cred as the most popular girl in school, now she's being bullied by everyone she used to like. Thus being a victim and yet not innocent at the same time.

She's the suicidal "dont tempt me, I'll do it" girl who is two steps away from teen pregnancy and substance abuse to get attention. They just can't come out and directly say it. Its implied from the scenes (but not strongly enough, nor ever actually resolved aside from Red telling her to suck it the fuck up because at least her mom doesnt have cancer, and she's not autistic).
>>
>>15373065
I do think it was at least a subplot that was dropped during the script-writing process, and the deal offering scene had to stay to make the rest of the movie work. Otherwise there's no reason to tempt a character if they don't struggle with it at least a bit. She's the character it would have made the most sense for too, seeing as she was the most reluctant to join the group.
>>
>>15373065
>>15373067
This is true, and I actually liked it more for it. It came off as Trini realizing that "Oh shit, Rita is real, she nearly killed me, and my friends need to know what's going on."

Does Rita look in any way trustworthy? Like someone who wouldn't go back on their word? Trini didn't know any of them found the Krispy Krystal.

She certainly could have explained it better, but it wasn't completely unreasonable.

I mean, he should have cleared that with the theater beforehand, but it does sort of feel like the universe is taking the piss out of him.
>>
>>15373071
>I don't know why she would do that
IIRC, she sent it to her then boyfriend and made some sort of bitchy comment off-handedly. She didn't realize that he would spread it to everyone else. Then she tried to deny her part in it by blaming everyone else and not owning up to her actions.

Her issue is that she wouldn't take responsiblity and forgive herself until Jason tells her that she did an awful thing but that doesn't make her an awful person.
>>
I really want the movie to do well. For all the gripes people have, they kept SO MUCH of the original and updated a lot of things pretty intelligently. The corny afterschool special subplot is intact. They still wear kinda-silly-kinda-awesome brightly-colored armor. Zordon drops "Rita Repulsa's" name like it isn't completely batshit and basically all of the fun catchphrases are there. If this is their starting point, I feel really good about any sequels that might come about. We could have gotten another GI Joe, but the bones of something good (in a lasting way) are there.

Actually really enjoyed it. When it was first announced, I felt disgust, and the first trailer didn't help, but the second trailer generated hype. I actually like the Megazord, since it provides a somewhat unique American/Western take on a giant robot, but I don't like how it doesn't look like a combination of the zords at all. And I don't like how the Mastodon clearly has eight legs. The Triceratops's six legs are more subtle when seen in action, but the Mastodon's legs are clearly fucked in the film, and it really bothers me. The fact that they don't shout the names of their zords to morph also makes it weird, since otherwise there is no way to determine Zack has a prehistoric elephant zord

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=powerrangers16.htm

It's only made 67 mill so far. It needs 200 mill to recoup its budget and actually have enough profit to merit a sequel.

Meanwhile, the live-action Beauty & the Beast made more than 750 mill in less than 2 weeks time.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=beautyandthebeast2017.htm

And Ghost in the Shell comes out this Friday with some theaters already having showings tonight. So Power Rangers 2017 is in stiff competition to make any sort of cash to justify 5 more movies.

More people are excited over Spider-Man: Homecoming, Justice League, and Guardians of the Galaxy 2 than Power Rangers. I'm even willing to bet Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is going to make more money than this.
>>
>>15378369
It doesn't come out in Japan and China until much later, keep in mind. I think it's possible to hit that 100 mill benchmark before then, and then after it's released in Asia? Who knows?

A sequel is still entirely possible. I'm gonna count my chickens and say that it's likely. On top of all this, the producers and especially Saban himself desperately WANT a sequel made no matter what. So I think at least one more installment is guaranteed regardless of whether the film is extremely profitable or not.

She did sound like a scared teenager trying to relay a message to her friends to save them. Rita told them to find her at the dockyard(where the dead ships lie or somesuch) and that's what Trini told them. They all went in ready to fight, but they all underestimated her strength.
It's not like Rita was particularly clever or the Rangers particularly dumb. They were just weak.

Rita told Trini to betray her friends, find out where the crystal is, and meet her at the shipyard without telling them. Trini said "fuck that" and immediately told her friends so that they could outnumber Rita and beat the shit out of her together.
