OP, I suggest you read 0083 Rebellion. It takes The Origin approach of retelling the story. Like Unit 1 getting underwater armor that looks like the Aqua Gundam from MSV to chase Gato's Jukon sub.

It's not done yet, time will tell. They do try to fix some things, like Nina not recognizing Gato in the Albion hangar was because Orville the spy shook the lift platform she was on, distracting her momentarily. They also introduce older characters like Alice Miller from Miller's report. Given that her department is internal investigations, she's there to question Albion members about the Gundamjack because things seem kinda fishy.

The manga also fleshes out Kelly's relationship with Gato and Nina. It turns out Gato was hiding out with Kelly and Nina built up a friendship with them while looking for MS parts at Kelly's salvage yard. In the OVA we were never told that, Kelly and Nina suddenly knew each other already when there was no hint of that before, and then Nina never speaks of him again.

The first director of 0083 walked off with the original script when he quit. The new director and writers literally had to come up with a new script at the last minute,with the badly written and completely out of place love triangle as the result.
