I picked up Geki and Dai at the same time since a thread a while ago was comparing the fight choreography in both and I'm falling in love with the braindead shounen story of Geki

but I also like Dai for its tighter fights and I like more of the characters personally and theres always the antiquated/dated appeal of it.

Its easy for me to bounce between a few shows but I'll watch one for a longer marathon period if I'm getting into it (watching the Gekiranger movie before I power through 31-40)

Kakuranger is great. My personal favorite sentai. It's not heavy on story but it's non-stop fun with entertaining characters, likable MOTW, and great fights.

Takaharu really isn't that bad.

Ninninger's problem is that it was written with a "Choose your own Adventure" theme that lead to stilted writing that not only went no where and felt awkward in certain areas. Like Kinji's character arc.

It's not as bad as /ssg/ likes to pretend but it's not anything great either. It's strongest aspect is that it has some pretty good filler episodes. Yakumo's episodes are all great, and the RPG episode is great too. It has a crossover with the metal hero Jiraiya too that I really liked. The Kakuranger and Hurricanger crossover is also at least worth watching once even if it's not anything great.

I have to wonder if maybe the writing got out of hands like this because Takebe didn't reign Shmoyama in or other problems behind the scenes. As far as I can see, his only main writing credits that even comes close to Ninninger in terms of commitment are adaptations of previously existing material like Bleach and SD Naruto: Rock Lee or seasonal anime.

It really hit home for me after having watched that Ninnin facts video from the Tokusatsu Network that the show actually has such a strong premise with the multi/intergenerational conflict. It's really a shame that it had to continue the decline of the ninja shows.

As a writer I can tell you the worst thing you can do is tackle something the way they tackled Ninninger.

It's an easy process but it never pans out well. You have this idea for a fun plot and then bam you don't have time to tackle the plots that actually matter or you got side tracked and lost your way because you didn't properly sit down and plan your story out.
