I wonder why the animation is so bad though, feels lower budget than other Gundams of similar duration.

Why do this and Evangelion look similar? They even have the same kind of atmosphere.

No they fucking don't. Gundam Wing characters actually seem normal by comparison to the over-the-top mental problems of the Eva characters. Not to mention that one is extremly super robot-esk and the other barely touches on the subject.

Gundam Wing is a strange series.

Critically speaking, its writing is downright terrible. Nothing makes much sense. The characters are inconsistent and shallow. There's no effort put into building up the setting or conflict. The animation can be good at times, but it's pretty standard for a high profile 90s series. The action is bad. Just really bad. Gundams flying through droves of Leos as they explode with stock footage. The designs really aren't great outside of a few standouts, mostly on the grunt side. It's cheesy and edgy.

But somehow it's good. Somehow it's really entertaining and it's a series I've watched multiple times. I don't know why. Just something about Gundam Wing makes it entertaining, despite never being good. Maybe it's JUST LOVE

I already said Duo and Asuka have the same hair style/eye color but that's where the similarities between those two shows end. The overall art style is completely different to Wing and the shows are absolutely nothing alike.
