Gunpla sales are hard to pin down. In their yearly reports it's all bundled into "Gundam" sales, which includes all models and merchandise. It's not broken down into individual series or lines or anything.

That being said, last year the brand did see a small drop in sales. Other than that it's all speculation based on what we see, like the decrease in NG 1/100s being released, the change in character merchandise and rumors of sales drying up as people grow sick of the Graze.

Ratings are a different matter. Unlike most anime people fawn over, IBO is in a timeslot where ratings actually matter. The first time the show dropped below 2%, producer Ogawa went to twitter to tell people the show picks up towards the end but the show had become a bit of a joke at that point.

This season, ten out of the first 18 episodes have scored under 2%. The demographics paint it as not being a success with it's target audiences, more men between the ages of 20-35.

Hell, a show called Chibi Maruko-chan airs at the same time as IBO and pulls in ratings of around 9%. Shaun the Sheep pulls in around 2.9% each week, while IBO s2 struggles to get above 2%.

Ratings do matter for these kinds of shows, and the fact of the matter is they're replacing the Nichigo timeslot once IBO is over.

So was the death of Macky's own personal Lockon petboy the most meaningless one yet? It had about zero impact on anything or anyone.

I've been cutting this season a lot of slack because it started out with some potential, but this is just getting ridiculous now.

For one thing, the harem end with Mika is stupid. While it is true that we had Naze with his harem that would make even a medieval sultan blush, it at least had some logic to it. Naze was technically the turbines employer and they operated as both workers in his shipping business and as his own personal janissary corps. The whole idea was that in this universe the women in the frontier, especially those who were orphans and runaways, were hired to take on dangerous jobs the men didn't want to do for lower pay. Naze saw a great business opportunity in hiring on these women for slightly more than anyone else was willing to hire them, offer them better working conditions, and so naturally they were grateful and perhaps felt that a nice guy like him deserved a good lay, and if they got pregnant by him or pleased him enough it obviously boosted their status over other girls who chose not to put out or didn't really see Naze in that way. Naze didn't refuse them and had enough natural charisma for many of his women to overlook the fact that he had sex with others in the company. The point is, it made sense because Naze had the character of a player and held a position of relative authority over these women. That's really the only way harems can ever work, because like Amida said, most women who actually value the relationship they have with a man prefer to have one man all to themselves unless they can't help it.

With Mika, Atra and Kudelia, it feels like some contrived hentai plot that only makes sense in the fictional universe of porn, but doesn't even give us the pay off of an ffm threeway and makes Atra look like an idiot who misunderstood just how Naze's harem actually worked and thinks this is just like playing house.

Atra spent her early developmental years as a worker-slave in a brothel where she was frequently abused by the workers and owners. Mika meanwhile grew up being raised in a PMC with other orphans who basically cared for each other against the abuse of their bosses and more legitimate co-workers.

Neither of them has any reason to have very traditional or even remotely normal views on relationships. Kudelia DOES and thus reacts the way she does to their generally awkward interactions, but still enjoys their company enough that she just kind of goes with it.

Eugene is prime fujomaterial, and Orga and Mika are also popular. The only bara one is Akihiro and he still got art.

The problem with IBO is that the boys barelly interact, it lacks of a good emotional connection except Yamagi/Shino.

There is basically no functional relationship in IBO. Maybe young boys do think girls are icky, I don't know. But there's nothing that young boys would like. There's very little action in IBO. There's no brotherhood. There's no convincing friendships. The fights aren't even really logical or interesting, it's always just "Mika activates Gundam Kaioken and wins." It's on the level of Bleach.
