How would /m/ have tried to correct the flaws of Gundam Age?

Replace the space lemon with literally anything else.
Get a better reasoning for the attacks instead of you had a chance to get a away, or make Ezelcant go full Armstrong on his ideas of only the strongest will survive.
Have Flit go full RIP AND TEAR in the final arc
Have the martians focus on leaving the planet that's been giving them space cancer instead of staying there and making mobile suits to kill civilians with.

You have it exactly the other way around. SEED is the setting with tons of potential in it: three primary factions with several different sub-factions in each, a well-crafted history and setting layout that can easily be used to add context to a story, and a manga that further builds on the setting and history. The story told in that setting is kind of shit, but a few tweaks, using budget on animation rather than famous musician cameos, and dialing back on the teen drama could make it into something spectacular.

AGE, in contrast, "has potential" in that it's a blank canvas like none other. There is no effort in AGE to develop consistency as to where anything is or what it means in the larger context of the setting. Whole locales just appear as the needs of the episode require and vanish just as soon after, never to be relevant again. The entirety of Gen 2 is spent wandering around locations that they made up just now and forget about immediately afterward, picking up a brain damage helmet that's used once and never mentioned again, making the entire generation an exercise in wasted time.

There's so little to work with in the AGE setting that any serious attempt to "fix" it is equivalent to writing an entire show from scratch.

Honestly i'd make that Mobile Armor SID guarding the EXA-DB the true antagonist of the entire story.

Instead of SID just being a mindless security Mobile Armor, have it be an A.I designed by the governments that had created the EXA-DB in order to stop the advancement of technology to self destructive levels that led to previous war. Upon detecting the existence of the AGE-system being developed and the danger it represents to its objective, SID allows a part of the EXA-DB to fall into the hands of a martian salvager crew under the command of a young Ezelcant. Offering him technology in return for loyalty, SID manipulates Ezelcant into becoming its pawn and has him committed to attack the colony where the AGE system is currently in development, explaining why that was the only target during the initial raid the Federations territories.

Years pass as the U.E goes quiet and SID enters back into a state of stasis until years later, it detects the AGE system again, prompting SID to once again put Ezelcant back into its service, thus prompting another attack on the colony where Flit has the AGE system in development.
With the U.E's failure to destroy the AGE-System and allowing the ship housing it to escape, the scout force deployed to Space Fortress Ambat are ordered to refocus all efforts onto destroying the Diva, without ever being informed about the AGE system itself.

With the events of Age-1 over and the entire world now becoming aware of the origins of the U.E, war between Earth and Mars becomes inevitable. With the Age-system producing weapons, upgrades and even new Mobile Suits to bolster the Federation, SID is forced to continue to bolster the technology of Mars to combat the entire Federation, which now has much of its technology born from the AGE-System it has become so dedicated to destroying.

While keeping most of AGE-2's plot the same, it becomes established that Asemu and Flit's relationship begins to deteriorate rapidly as the two have different ideas of how to handle Kio's upbringing and disagreements about the Vegans themselves. While Asemu insist on keeping an open mind and focus's on just winning the war against the Vegans and reducing losses, Flit stands unmoved in his ideals of total war and extermination. Asemu intends to retire after one final mission in a debris belt in between Earth and Mars so that he can be with his Wife and Son while stopping Flit from exerting his influence. While on this mission, he and his team accidentally stumble onto the EXA-DB and SID, thus leading to Asemu's entire unit being slaughtered and himself being critically wounded. Finding himself labeled as a dead man, and soon after learning from a local scavenger crew about the legend of the EXA-DB being real, Asemu realizes the implications of allowing such a technology to fall into the hands of either the Federation or Vegans hands. Believing the news of his death will influence Flit to quit the military and help raise Kio in his absence, Asemu becomes leader of a piracy organization that diverts any vessel that comes within any contact to the Debris Field where SID is lurking, completely oblivious that the machine that shot him down is the true mastermind behind the entire war.

Moving into AGE-3, the war between Earth and Mars devolves into total war across the Earth. With the rapid advancement of technology from the Age System bolstering the Federation and the ever evolving production and combat capabilities of Ezelcants forces, the world begins to lean of the verge of a cataclysm much like the one that spawned the original legend of the Gundam. SIDs programming leads it deem the entire planet now has influence from the Age-System, thus deeming it necessary to be destroyed completely.

Following the "death" of Asemu, Flit waste no time in becoming the dominant parent figure in Kio's life, quickly squeezing his X-rounder potential into existence. Training him on customized simulators and games, Flit turns his own grandson into the ultimate extension of his Vegan genocide agenda, his very own reincarnation of Desil to be used against the ones who killed Yurin so many years before.

With Kio's sheer power, and the Federation's extremely harsh anti-Vegan policies, Flit soon finds himself as the core advisor to the Admiral to the main bulk of the Federation counter assault forces. Choosing to launch an all out invasion of the Vegan homeland itself, Flit deploys the main bulk of the Federations fleet to set course for Mars. Along the way however, The Diva and the heart of the fleet are constantly hounded by Asemu's pirate forces attempting to divert the fleet from the EXA-DB location and Zehearts own personal squad under orders from Ezelcant to focus on sinking the Diva and the Gundam. During a massive four way fight between Flit's forces, Zehearts pursuit fleet, Asemu's pirates and SID itself, the battle ends with Zehearts unit successfully capturing the Age-3 and Kio, while Flits tattered fleet manages to acquire a piece of the EXA-DB itself. Forced between his duty and family, Asemu abandons guarding the EXA-DB and heads in pursuit of rescuing Kio on Mars, alongside the Diva's crew. Despite the loss of so many Federation Forces, Flit gains the power of the EXA-DB and now holds the power to exterminate the Vegans once and for all. Finding his old Friend of comrade Frederick Algreus unable to stand alongside Flits plan of total elimination, Flit assassinates him and inform the survivors of his fleet that the murder had come directly from a Vegan operative, thus allowing Flit to assume to total control over the entire Federation military. With the EXA-DB in hand, all that matters is victory at this point.

Well for starters don't spend the entire first two arcs making the Vagans evil bad guys just to turn them into sympathetic guys in the third part. Either make them sympathetic from the start or keep them evil through the whole thing.

Make Flit's opening more grim and less childish. It starts with everything getting destroyed, keep that tone and do a better job of setting up Flit's anger towards the Vagan instead of just using Yurin to make him angry for the entire anime. Use actual atrocities, not some girl dying. Establish that they are losing the battle against the Vagans even with the Gundam.

Make Kio more of an innocent child who doesn't want to kill at first but then realizes he has to in order to save his friends, instead of killing at first then suddenly deciding not to kill and letting his friends literally die because of his actions.

More of Flit vs Desil instead of killing him off and do a better job of introducing Desil cause it was pretty retarded with him just saying hahaha i'm evil.

Establish Zeheart as a true Char on the other side from the beginning instead of some bullshit friendship. If they become friends let it be through their battles. A major part of Arc 2 could be them becoming rivals/frenemies similar to Char and Amuro. Keep the non- xrounder plot and Wolf death.

Get rid of the random girl who was angry about something in Kio's arc. I can't even remember what she was there for she was so insignificant.

More full family fights in arc 3. Give Kio the Age 3 again but give us some more fights with the three of them together. Maybe against Desil, Zeheart and Ezelcant.

Have Flit die in the final battle, but his son and grandson are still alive after killing the Vagans and ending the war decisively.

Also, following from this: AGE could have been good if Flit's similarity to Amuro was played down and similarity to Char was played up. Make him the antihero driven by losing his first waifu, rub in the brutality of his methods, play Asemu as the Kamille-Seabook hybrid like was essentially done anyway which is probably why only the second arc is any good, and in the end make Kio kill him but still not earn redemption after the unintentional genocide of Vagan civilians - basically make the kid a Simon-Katejina.

AGE was mostly okay except the SID mobile armor and Kio's arc. There was a way to have Kio understand that Vagans are people to without making him full retard. And Asemu becoming a space pirate who stops supply movements to draw out the conflict was fucking retarded.

There was good stuff with Kio starting out as a mini-killing machine. He even says he thought the simulator that Flit gave him was just a game so you can see where they're going with that. But instead of taking a moderate approach they turn him into a Vagan apologist over some shitty little girl.

A better approach might have been to radicalize Kio even further as a Vagan killing machine, and have him commit the same kind of atrocious shit against Vagan civilians that Vagans constantly do throughout the show to Earthnoids. It would at least give him and the rest of the cast to reflect on what they and Flit have done by turning a little kid into their secret military weapon. And it would give good reason for Asemu to show up and actually clash with Kio and Flit for committing atrocities.

But as it stands Kio's basically responsible for all of the deaths on his side in the final battle. Flitt had a chance to kill Zeheart and his little floozy at the end of the moon base arc and Kio stopped him.

So basically, instead of having Kio be more sympathetic towards Vagans, turn him into Decil, except obsessed with exterminating the Vagans, only for Flit to accept his mistakes and stop Kio before Kio turns into the very thing that ruined Flit's life in the first place.

That last "him" was kind of ambiguous, I meant kill Flit but honestly that setup would be even better if Asemu stayed pseudonymous, Kio went full extermination, Asemu tried to stop him and was killed by Kio, and that's what made Kio finally realize it wasn't a game.

I tried to write a fanfic rewrite years back to fix AGE, and really it's kinda hard. >>15310955 has it right when he says AGE has potential as far as a blank canvas or at best cool artwork on a NES game. The only thing you can fix with AGE is characters and plot, because the setting doesn't even exist.

So as far as I got, I would've made Flit an ultra Feddie nationalist, full jackboots. Both his parents were killed and was raised by a high ranking respected Federation officer. I could see him going the military route, and succeeding because of him being precocious. Essentially developing this Federation = Humanity mindset and constantly vilifying the Vagans as the permanent 'other.' The consequences of this wouldn't be made apparent really until the end of Gen 2, before that he could quote some platitudes about duty to the state to Asemu (or even pressuring him to join the military) but what would ultimately happen would be Flit developing a cult of followers and staging a fascist coup. Seeing the Federation betrayed by weak leaders who let the war drag for too long would cause him to become a dictator and set the stage for a much more interesting Geb 3 and 3G Arc.
As for Asemu, I would've made him go MIA during/after the final battle in Gen 2, impregnating Romary beforehand. This would make him not an absent father, just an unknowing one. Or even have Asemu die by the end of Gen 2. Either way, having him knowingly abandon his kid was a shitty thing, and I would've cut that idea entirely.
For Zeheart, having him age between Gen 2 and Gen 3 could lend itself to Ezelcant losing faith in his abilities to lead the Vagans after his death, and thus introduce Zera Gins as a replacement to an aging Zeheart. His character is mostly alright by me, nothing special, he just never did anything.
Give the Legilis to Kio and have him defect to the Vegans to stop his oppressive grandfather and the Fascist Earth Federation.

I could get behind this, though I think Kio basically becoming an anti Vegan version of Decil would fit his character until he gets captured and sent to Mars. Instead of him having a social life like we generally saw him have at the start of AGE-3, have him be somewhat of an introvert that mostly keeps to himself and his grandfather. Ultimately when the Vegan end up attacking his home town and Flit arrives to deliver the AGE-3 to him, Kio treats the matter like the simulators that Flit had him using since the time he was just a toddler. Despite it being his first sortie, Kio easily is able to annihilate the landing forces, along with viciously exterminating any survivors as Flit continues to praise his Grandsons actions. After being brought onto the Diva under Flits recommendation, the entire crew notices just how disconnected Kio is from most other affairs outside of what Flit is feeding him information-wise. Shaunala finding herself disgusted with Flits tactics in using an actual child soldier calls him out on it, only for Kio to dismiss her claims as unimportant in the goal of exterminating mankind's natural enemy.

As the conflict progresses, Shaunala begins to develop of friendship with Kio to try and help him enjoy his childhood instead of being a proxy for Flits desires. As the Vegans begin to lead a full scale invasion on the Federations central HQ, Shaunala is discovered to be a Vegan citizen who was able to enter into the Earth Federation as a spy and Kio is dispatched to stop her before she can detonate multiple nuclear warheads inside of the bases mass driver ports. Realizing Shaunala had eroded some of Kios will to fight, Flit twist this doubt into further hate, confirming his belief that Vegan is humanities natural enemy. Kio shoots her down and becomes even closer to Flit, who now has molded him into the perfect soldier.

Starting from there: reintroduce MIA Asemu as a space pirate, and Kio proceeds to exterminate the race traitor without recognizing (was MIA, disguise worked) or being recognized (didn't even know he had a son.)

The AGE device falls out of the ruined shell of his cockpit, and that Kio DOES recognize. It's enough to momentarily shock him, resulting in his capture.

At this point, we have a very confused and disillusioned Kio, in the hands of some very angry pirates, with a device that can win either side the war. Some in the Federation want to recover him, some simply want him swept under the rug. Some of the pirates want revenge for their captain, some know the value of what they have to trade. Some Vagans want the genocide puppet dead, some see him as a swayable walking wunderwaffen. Each side proceeds to collapse into chaotic infighting.

First of all it needed at least a full 52 or even 60 episodes to properly pace the story in arc 3.
Then we start with the fardain arc and use it to show political/social conditions in the colonies in order to worldbuild.
However it needs to be related into the vegan conflict, the way it was originally done felt to detatched from everything else.

Have the refugees from Nora such as Yurin stay on the diva longer.
This gives more time for her to develop with Flit.
I'm that more actually develop Emily too, make her more than a childhood friend.
Maybe even have her try to become a pilot.
That's all I've got for now, there's definitely more though, AGE has so much room for growth.

Two things wrong with this. 1: The federation forces still outnumber the Vagan ones with forces stationed all over earth and all of the colonies excluding Mars. So even if they DID develop mobile suits AND stupidly decide to take on the federation head on. They would still get fucking hosed over time because concentrated fire would still rock them around inside their cockpits something fierce. Not to mention knowing they're being attacked by a full-scale assault from mars colonists would spur the feddies into probably advancing the AGE Project even FASTER, and turn the tide anyway. So no. Your fuck-ass scenario of the Vagans using zerg rush tactics does not work. At all. It's why Yark Dole and the Ambat forces had to be black ops about their operations. It's why any attempt to capture downed Gafrans resulted in them self destructing. They were being discreet.
