is mechwarrior or battletech one of those terrible games for the xbox? I played one and wanted to blow my brains out at how much of a mess of a video game it was

Xbox had a game called MechAssault which was an attempt at making a Battletech action game as opposed to Mechwarrior series that were more of a simulation type games.

The BatletechGame is going to have fucking melee, so have dougram punching an autistic little mech
>>
>>15306200
>simulation type games.

Eh... that's really pushing it. They're a series of simple action games, whereas Mech Assault was a twin-stick shooter.
Simulators are in a completely different league. The simulation is just a name like modern FPS games often get the moniker of "Simulation of Modern Theater of War".
>>
>>15305924

Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries was the Balls, and the Soundtrack was the Dick harder than a thousands sequoias

and the Last mission was awesome
>>
>>15306218
Okay, calling them simulation is a bit generous, but calling them simple shooters is selling them a bit short. I would not recommend them to someone asking for a simple action game, too much prep time and management.

They fall in the same category as other sci-fi games of the time like Earthsiege or Terra Nova: Strike Force Centauri.
>>
>>15306250

strike force centauri is one of the few retro games that needs a remake or a good remaster badly, atleast on the same vein as the guy making a source port for Tie Figher/Xwing using unity and new models.

People just don't like the overzealous Mechwarrior game fanbase and their defensiveness. Just go to any forum for those games and you'll see just the kind of combative personality I'm talking about.
The tabletop game, Battletech, has a much more relaxed demographic of people following it. They know the game is goofy nonsense full of wacky dumb stuff and don't make excuses to hide it. If anything, they poke fun at BT as much as /tv/ pokes fun at that awful plane scene from The Dark Knight Rises.
>>
>>15305924
/m/ started out as offshoot of /a/, and people on /a/ will still tell people to:
>fuck off to /m/
Ensuring we'll always have tards making shit-treads.
Now /m/ is more of an amalgam of /a/, /co/, /tg/, and /tv/ anons, but just don't expect any non-gundam threads not to get shoved off the catalogue by anons who don't know how to handle themselves.
>>
>>15306053

It is the single biggest mecha franchise and it's by far the most popular in the west. I'm more surprised that you can post a thread for just about any series or OVA, no matter how small, and someone will tell you if they liked it and give a viewing order recommendation or something.

But yeah, /m/ is fundamentally an anime subgenre board, not a science fiction board writ large.
>>
>>15310431
>fundamentally
More like "originally", old-fag. Stay in denial about all the live-action and influences from /co/, /tv/, and /v/, and keep pretending it's only the threads that you personally visit.
>>
>>15310716
Not him, but it is fundamentally that way, no matter how much you don't want it to be.
>>
>>15310870
That's bullshit. The only thing I don't "want" is all the shit-threads made by 1 anon making threads for all the gundam series and saying "why was x so terrible" and the newfags from /a/ who make threads to ask 1 question instead of going to a pre-existing thread.
We all agreed when we set the new ground-rules after "super ninja" apocalypse that shit-threads were out and generals were in, but new /a/-fags didn't get the memo. it's the whole reason toku HAS to be in generals, because before that shit-hurricane, anime was the endangered species, and still would.
Because before
>>
>>15310899
There's a lot of Gundam threads because it's one of the most popular series in these parts and there's a new one airing currently.

The good news is that while there's a lot of gundam threads, there's also tons of threads about other things and you're free to start a thread about whatever non-Gundam show it is you want to talk about.
>>
>>15310899
You all right anon?

>>15310925
You also run a pretty good risk of that series getting shitposted to death, but that's true of everything, so I guess it equals out in the end.
>>
>>15310925
Toku gets more posts per day. Easy.
Don't mistake shit-thread'd for lack of representation.
Yes, /tv/-fags and /co/-tards still occasionally make shit-threads out-of-general, i know.
It's just a fact, gundam might be popular, but toku puts out ten-folds of new material, almost daily.
Face the facts, we've become the niche, and that's ok. Thread's big enough to share, but fuck this "prodominately anime board" bullshit denial dream. Things have changed.

>tfw want to get into tabletop mecha but wildly expensive and require paint and glue to make

Don't get me started on the rulebooks.
Gunpla tabletop RPG when?
>>
>>15311294
Arguably, an agile robot that holds a gun in its hands is more realistic than a lumbering brick like Battletech.
>>
>>15311310
Battletech is not that bad...it is like 8-15 bucks for four mechs if you buy Alpha Strike packs. Most games are not much more than 4 mechs/side. Battletech in particular is not WYSWYG, as long as everything is distinguishable and remotely similar (you don't use lights for heavies or the like) no one really cares.

If you want to get into the hardcore jewery that is 40k, Chinaman and his recasts are here to save the day.

And if really want to fuck up, you can buy Robotech Tactics on the cheap because Palladium killed the game with their incompetence.

As for glue and painting, put on your big boy pants and get to work. It is not that bad. At 1:144 scale gunpla is too fucking big for most tables if you want to have something that feels like it has any sort of realistic ranges.

I run Grey Death Legion as my main, and periphery militia as my "fun" list.

By fun of course I mean a bunch of civilian trucks with guns, infantry with suicide antimech bombs and one or two broken-down agricultural/construction mechs.

>>
>>15311357
The strafing rules for aerospace fighters made them plenty threatening to 'mechs. Especially since one fighter can hit every target in its column with its energy weapons. And unless the mech is packing something like an LB-X AC it is going to have a hard time hitting the fighter.
>>
>>15311364
It sounds like you're talking about a whole bunch of them, which makes it moot since you can take down ANY mech with enough, especially if we add UC-types that are proven less resilient to beam attacks. One-on-one, an attack aircraft isn't gonna cut it.
>>
>>15311362
I have all my dad's original copies. Reading them got me into GDL, much to my father's disappointment (A staunch COMSTAR player)
>>
>>15311374
That's sweet as fuck. Your dad sounds cool.
>>
>>15311373
Nope, just one. An aerospace fighter strafing a Battletech Map chooses a line of hexes three hexes wide. He then attacks everything in the line with all his energy weapons and can choose single targets for all his solids. Mechs can return fire, but have a helluva time hitting outside the line of fire and even in the line of fire it is hard unless LB-X cluster munitions are used.

Aerospace Fighters are about as well armored as similar sized mechs and go up to 100 tons just like mechs.
>>
>>15311360
Some anon tried to do a /m/ meets /tg/ general in here, but disappointingly, it ended up almost all about Mekton and the threads just collapsed.
>>
>>15311391
Ok, so let me see if I got this right, in your scenerio, the aerofighter gets all OP payloads, but the mech apparently does not... yeah, real objective scenerio.
>>
>>15311401
Ok, so let me see if I got this right, in your scenerio, themech gets all OP payloads, but the aerofighter apparently does not... yeah, real objective scenerio.
>>
>>15311401
Haha, nice try. I give them both meh, and the mech wins. You gimp the mech and buff the aerofighter and suddenly the aerofighter comes out on top.
There's no universe where what you did isn't obvious.
>>
>>15311406
I'm gonna go third-source and do a little look-up. Otherwise this turns into an unnecessary argument. I wouldn't say this if I didn't think there was a chance I was wrong.
>>
>>15311382
He is.

BTW, if you are a GDL fan, once you're done reading all the battletech books, look for the Mechwarrior book "The Dying Time". It ends the saga, from the point of view of Carlyle's wife. Try not to cry.

Mechwarrior is both the RPG, and the novels that focus on individual people, whereas battletech is wider story line and the miniature game, btw.

>>15311394
Battletech general is pretty good on /tg/.
>>
>>15311410
This may come as a surprise to you, but you're talking to two different people. Your original argument was that a bulky, slow robot is more realistic than an agile one as it could take more hits, to which I said that a slow bulky robot is a sitting duck for attack aircraft. You then forfeited any claims of realism by citing your in-universe rules which makes a slow, heavy vehicle with poor mobility superior to on with vastly greater mobility.
>>
>>15311424
My argument was... well, supposed to be about how MSs seem far far more thinned-skinned than mechs, then was going to go into how they're both realistic because if you gave a MS equivalent armor, hah, it'd be limbering too. But the guy never replied back for me to do so.
Checked on it. You were absolutely right on. I don't know if I'm just rusty or if there's been rule-changes since I was younger. I concede, I was wrong.

As a BTech and FM fan, I will have to admit this. The whole "Combined arms" Mecha genre is a kind of niche that doesn't play nice with an industry who's goal is to sell plastic.

I love the fact that BTech and FM doesn't make Mechs the end all of all weapons but from a "sell to the masses" POV, it just doesnt cut it.

The FM4 intro still takes the cake for showing what would happen to a those speedy mechs who do the whole VOTOMs high speed movement by sliding into the building from the sniper shot knocking the mech off balance
>>
>>15311424
Vehicles is a little bit of a goalpost shift, the comparison was a faster robot, not a vehicle. The discussion went off on a tangent as soon as you came into it.
