So do you guys think Monarch can be trusted? Or will they reveal they are just trying to control monsters?

Reminder that in the Monsterverse the fairy twins and the rest of their culture have been dead for a thousand years, and the ones in the new Godzilla movie are the mental projections of Mothra, which she uses to communicate with humans. This ability is also how they'll get Bryan Cranston back for a cameo.

They're totally going to team up and whup some probably Ghidorah ass. For some reason. Easiest way would be to have them throw down with Ghidorah and/or other monsters on their own, and then bring them together at the climax.

So the real question here: Will King Ghidorah be an alien in this universe, and could they make aliens work in this universe?
>>
>>15306998
Wasn't there some rumor that he was from the moon?

Personally, I hope things like Rodan and Angurious are just from the same time persiod as Godzilla himself

They could aliens work but they're more likely to just make them all come from under the hollow earth or from the Godzilla time period.

If I had to make guesses for Godzilla: King of the Monsters:
>Ghidorah is actually a alien creature that crashed landed on Earth during prehistoric times.
>Ghidorah quickly became the "Apex Predator" and disturbed the natural ecosystem, resulting in Godzilla intervening.
>Godzilla and Ghidorah fought some time during the life time of Ancient Humans(Mothra's followers).
>Godzilla and Ghidorah's battle ends when Ghidorah falls into the Hollow Earth, trapping it there.
>After the intense battle, Godzilla goes back into hibernation until being awaken by humans in recent history.
-
>Opening shows Monarch chasing down Rodan, when Godzilla appears by breaching out of the ocean and commencing a fight.
>Monarch is secretly working on a project involving the Hollow Earth and risk waking and freeing Ghidorah.
>Mothra and her twins play a role in preventing Ghidorah from returning by trying to get Monarch to cease their work on the Hollow Earth, which fails.

Also something that may be a subtle hint or just an over active mind.
>>
I'm really digging Monarch. Glad they had a bigger presence in Kong than they did in '14.

King Kong is the reason that godzilla exists. Godzilla birthed toku. Therefore, toku is essentially a ripoff of American classics. Anything American is /m/.

Yeah but we've seen how strong he is in this movie and he's very weak compared to Godzilla who could withstand a building dropping on top of him with little trouble.
>>
>>15311581
yeah but Kong is specifically said to still be growing in Skull Island so i assume he'll be comparable to Goji when they actually square up otherwise whats the point
not to mention that even if hes not up to Goji strength wise he'll certainly out pace him in agility and utility

Reminder that Kong only won in the original due to luck. Godzilla got buried in a landslide when the two toppled over the mountain and Kong used that as an excuse to leave.

That's why Godzilla enters the next film (vs. Mothra) by rising out of the ground.

In any case, Kong is gonna be hard pressed to win. Especially since Godzilla has top billing this time around, whereas Kong was the more marketable character in the original.

So, with Godzilla was the first film for this universe movie, it seems Kong is a prelude with Monarch going by the years of being active, with most of the film for Kong was in 1970's while Godzilla in the 1990's and 2000's

>And so, I do declare that 2014's "Godzilla" will be the beginning of this Movie Universe striking an uncanny similarity to the Universal Monster Movies of the 60's and 50's. My own observations have lead to the conclusion that Skull Island wll act as a prelude to the upcoming feature yet to be announced focusing on this enigmatic entity known as "Monarch" seeing as their presence in Skull Island means they are a long-running force within the shared continuity these films soon will have among each other. I was able to reach this conclusion by also taking into consideration that the 2014 Godzilla film was primarily set in modern day, or rather a non-descript 2000's time, with a few brief flashbacks to the 90's

I just rewatched it the other day, it wasn't just that. Kong was basically dead and then he got a major boost from lightning that put him on G-man's level.

1933 Universe:
>The Skullcrawlers were just another creature on Skull Island and never gained a large presence in the ecosystem. Due to the much larger threats, Kong, and the lack of their Hollow Earth pocket, they were forced to make their nests inside cliff sides and only feed on creatures near or close to their nests.

I just really like the idea of the Skullcrawlers as a predator concept.
They're frightening and tough enough to face Kong, manage to kill off his species, and nearly devour everything that couldn't hide underwater, air, or camouflage.

Makes me wonder if they'll return for Godzilla vs Kong.
>>
>>15314854
Something else from the hollow earth will probably come up for Kong vs Godzilla. Or they'll go down there.
>>
>>15314867
I'm still hoping for something like:
>Monarch is working on something inside the Hollow Earth.
>Godzilla is found in a critical area for the project and apparently uses it as a "Nest".
>Kong has grown to meet Godzilla's size and Monarch decides to lure/capture Kong and bring him to mainland to fight Godzilla.
>Godzilla and Kong have three fights, the final taking place at the Monarch Hollow Earth chamber.
>Final battle ends when the battle becomes so intense that the chamber starts collapsing and swallows both Godzilla and Kong in it.
>Monarch thinks both are either dead or no longer a threat, and continue with the next step in their plan.
>An Oxygen Destroyer(Monsterverse version) is revealed and planned to be used inside the Hollow Earth in order to kill all life below, teasing the next major film, Destroy All Monsters.
>>
>>15314867
What I assume will happen is that after King of the Monsters, Godzilla's gonna be fucking exhausted and so he ends up trying to lay low on Skull Island because he might be able to snack on some of the ambient energy in that eternal storm so he crawls onto the island, and when something like Godzilla lands on your island, you notice. Fuck, you can even make it so you've got some antagonist group actively pursuing the weakened Godzilla to capture or kill him (Give them the Super X)and that causes Godzilla to start wrecking shit, followed by Kong getting pissed. The fight causes the island to collapse into the Hollow Earth where Kong and Godzilla duke it out until they eventually surface somewhere else in the world, while also waking up a third party who'll they dunk on in the final at. Godzilla is swims back out to sea, while Kong retraces his steps to the hollow Earth to return to the remains of Skull Island, while also realizing he can explore the Earth now so he can show up for Destroy All Monsters.
>>
>>15312591
anybody, who is ready to do it, once the movie is being released?
>>
So, Skull Island is surrounded by a perpetual storm, right? Shouldn't that have been interesting enough in itself to warrant scientific study, regardless of what the island inside of it had?

>>
>>15315970
They didn't know about the island until around the start of the movie because satellites hadn't existed yet. They just found the island and wanted to act before Russia got its satellites up and saw it as well.
>>
okay, some timeline stuff

>1934
A tanker was washed up on Skull Island, probably nothing important

>1943
John Goodman is the soul survivor of a monster attack, and it is covered by the goverment

>1946
Monarch is founded

While the 43 incident probably had a hand in the creation of Monarch, it is worth to note that Monarch was founded prior to the 54 Godzilla incident.

Question is what was it that forced the foundation of Monarch, and what attacked in 1943 and if it will be brought back up?
>>
>>15317038
>what attacked in 1943 and if it will be brought back up?
Pretty sure it was Godzilla.
>>
>>15317047
I don't believe that Godzilla mentioned that he was active very long prior to 54, and Goodman didn't really act otherwise (unless Goodman was kept in the dark by Monarch)

I almost got the impression the Skullcrawlers were extremely low powered kaiju sent through a rift the aliens were sending through as sentries. Could be Kong and Godzilla take place on an alternate dimension Earth and their rift is in a different location. Maybe on Kong's island. Pacific Rim dudes start dimension hopping to kill the aliens and they end up in parallel earth?

I don't see your issue. Those movies were made in a time when anything with sound and moving pictures was awesome. Nowadays those movies are just.. bland. Hence why I couldn't get into King Kong a few years ago when I checked it out.

Even with the better effects it still looks completely unbelievable. Cut that and it might have been alright but Peter Jackson clearly doesn't know when to stop.

2005
>3 T-Rexs just so happen to all be hanging around there
>Overstayed its welcome
>Most of the time they focus on eating the girl
>Bimbo doesn't die from whiplash
>Vines should have snapped
>The vine scene as a whole

Over all, it feels more like a super hero fight. Over the top nonsense, with the camera trying to follow these tossing and turning monsters. Like when they all three first attack Kong, and he's spinning around, and the jump cuts start going crazy; it looks bad.

1933
>Animals frantically swing and chomp at each other, like animals do
>Trex focuses on the actual threat, instead of trying to eat small prey
I mean, '33 feels real. Kong bitting the Trex's eye to stagger it, and then go in for the kill. It's more realistic.
>>
>>15325820
>>15326613
No way. 2005's dreary and colorless island sucked compared to the new one. The monsters that were seen in the new one were also much more interesting than anything in the old one.
>>
>>15326677
You mean besides being in color and with better CG? The fight is simply more brutal and active, Kong is jumping and swinging around and doing all sorts of complicated attacks. If you watch the old movie his blows actually connect very rarely and he mostly swings randomly and there's no sense of weight or force behind his punches.
>>
>>15326764
Skull Island
>Giant Spider
>Skull Crawlers
>Fat Elk
>Saw Birds
>Giant Octopus
vs the wide aray of dinosaurs, and giant insects. I liked the movie, much more than 2005. But the island felt empty, while 05 felt like it had an actual ecosystem.

>>15326782 read my post >>15326736
>Kong is jumping and swinging around and doing all sorts of complicated attacks
yeah, like I said, almost like some super hero movie. '33 felt primal. Wild animals swing and bite at each other, most don't connect. They act that way cause it's life and death. Watch two animals fight. They stand there, growl and huff and puff. Then when the start fighting, it's chaotic, there is no real tactic, and then, when one gets that good shot(Kong's eye bite) it's game over.
>>
>>15326812
Kong is not a regular animal. Even though it's clear you're trying to justify dated special effects with some kind of complex answer the truth is Kong is a large ape-like creature and not a regular monkey who should fight like a regular monkey.
>>
>>15326764
Well Skull Island(17) wasn't just another "Land that time forgot" where Dinosaurs were the selling point, this time you had some interesting creatures that made SI feel new and unexplored.
The history of Skull Island(2017) is a lot more interesting this time around because the island itself contains a lot of "lost history".

Personally I believe that SI(17) was actually similar to 33's and Jackson's Skull Island until the Skullcrawlers appeared and killed nearly everything, with the only exceptions being that the creatures to survive had natural camouflage or lived in an environment that allowed them to escape the Skullcrawers.

Plus the idea of all of Kong's species dying out never made much sense to me since they all were around the same size as Kong(33, Jackson) and would have likely lived in groups to prevent predators from gaining an advantage.
In SI(17) it's told that Kong's parents are killed by Ramarak/Skullcrawlers(Crafty bastards) and he is the last, now he is much larger than the "Kongs" before him(His parents were smaller adults compared to Kong).
>>
>>15326921
>he is much larger than the "Kongs" before him
When was that said? He's still growing so it would make sense that people know how big he's supposed to be for him to be able to say that.

Based off of the Skeletons in the Graveyard scene, Marlow states that "That's all that remains of Kong's parents".
That would mean that they had reached Sexual maturity, already had Kong, and Kong was old enough to escape on his own. All that would mean that Kong's parents were Adults or at least fully grown by the time they were killed.

The Skeletons in the graveyard were much smaller compared to Kong, based on the skulls and bones seen, plus the comparison of the Skullcrawler in the scene.

For what it's worth, if you want my opinion on that, it's hard to argue that the original isn't dated pretty hard due to it's effects. I'm not one to forgive movies or games for limitations due to their age, either, and it infuriates me when I see the original super mario on best game lists when objectively speaking most games in the past 30 years or so are just objsecitvely more mechanically complexed, polished, have more content, and have better video and audio.

I haven't seen the original Godzilla in years though so I can't speak to how strong it's writing/acting/camera usage is and how well it can stand on those despite the video qualuty/effects being limited by their age
>>
One time at a movie museum I saw a wire frame that was claimed to be the remains of the T-Rex from OG Kong. They had a photo of Harryhausen giving it a positive ID to back up the claim.
>>
>>15327068
>It's better if it's more needlessly complex
>It's better if it has better graphics and music just because
You're an idiot. Super Mario Bros is on so many GOAT lists because it's a near perfect game that does everything it set out to do perfectly. The graphics and audio do not detract from the experience (and the music is good anyway so you're wrong on that) and it holds up perfectly well to time and that is probably never going to go away. It plays just as well now as it did when it came out. Black Ops II is not better than Super Mario Bros because it looks pretty realistic and has more audio fidelity.

NO you IDIOT. Try to read my post next time. It is as good today as it was in the 80s because they made a good game that did what it was trying to do perfectly. Superficial shit like graphics and audio fidelity matter very little to a game's quality. The Order 1887 or whatever is not better than Mario because it looks real and has a score like a movie. That's not to say there's no room for improvement but you can make a game that is relatively futureproof and will hold up for a very long time which is what the original Mario is. Compare to shit from today like Little Big Planet which can't even do jumping as well as a 2D pixel game from the 80s.

Are the Godzilla Anime rumors welcomed in this thread?
Didn't see a Godzilla thread like before Shin's release.

Either way, here are some floating rumor I've heard(Grain of Salt, Trust at own risk):
>The movie was originally supposed to work alongside Shin Godzilla, where Shin Godzilla was realistic, and Anime(?) Godzilla would be more Scifi. These plans have changed, but assets from it still exist.

>There are a race of "Godzilla Humans" who were originally supposed to be the "What if the 5th form took over Earth and forced humans off the planet.", but now are reworked into their own story. Imagine the Children of Atom from Fallout as part Godzilla, but also plant lovers.
>The G-Humans were humans who survived the radiation and were "forced to evolve" into their new forms.

>The jungles of Earth are cause by Godzilla's radiation, which also effected their appearance(Some even having Godzilla's spines).

>Placed in an future setting, at least 50-100 years ahead of what the Story considers "Modern time".

>Godzilla, like Shin Godzilla, is different. The silhouette is Godzilla, but the design is more tamed than Shin.

>Villain monster is original, It's a mixture between Trendmaster's Biollante and an Human.

>Story is about how Humanity left Earth after Godzilla's radiation become intense and killed anyone exposed.
>In the Future(Current time In Story), A Space colony sends a Recon Group back to Earth after receiving a signal from the planet.
>>
>>15328010
>Humans are the monsters.
How many times can Urobuchi make the same fucking story.
>>
>Gypsy Danger's remains turn up in Godzillaverse after drifting through dimensions
>Monarch salvages it, delighted that it's actual human tech from good ol' Murrica
>JET JAGAAA
>>
>>15328027
Poster here, and a little more.
But to answer you Anon, yes but it's not clear cut.

>The G-Humans have the ability to control certain plants and use them to attack the Recon group.

>The G-Human react negatively to Godzilla due to them experiencing his attacks in the past(They've lived for a long time), which courses them into creating their own "God" as a means of killing him.

>Godzilla is again played as a neutral party. He is first attacked by the G-Humen(?) "Giant vines", which pisses him off and cause him to burn down a section of a forest.

>The "God" of the G-Humen(Still doesn't sound right) absorbs radiation from Godzilla, weakening him, forcing the Recon Group in helping Godzilla defeat the "God" and the G-Humans.

>Near the End, The Recon Group report their findings and explain how the planet is habitable again, but they'll have to learn to live with Godzilla again.

Gigan is one of those Kaiju that are almost too strange to use. It's not the idea that he wouldn't be cool, it would be hard explaining an "giant alien reptilian cyborg chicken". Granted the origin would be altered and fixed to fit the MVerse, but the idea still stands.

I believe the unspoken rule at Legendary is that:
>It's origin can be explained within a minute and is easy to comprehend.
>Could actually be a creature in the event reality had the right conditions.
>A simple and recognizable silhouette/design.
As of right now, the monster list are those that exist solely on Earth and have prehistoric origins. Then again, Ghidorah may be the game changer here and his origin be that he arrived on the meteorite or was the thing that killed the dinosaurs.

It's so weird that Samuel L Jackson is in this. After returning from Skull Island, did he join SHIELD or did he become an afro gangster?
>>
>>15332259
He became worm food.
>>
>>15331083
Yeah, I thought it "Crushed" Logan at the boxoffice last week. I know Beauty and the Beast was going to be the top dog though for this weekend
>>
>>15325895
Not him but I legit can't accept anyone under the age of 75-80 thinking the original Kong is good.
>>
what if John Goodmans char is the same guy from 10 cloverfield lane....might finally get a Cloverfield monster v Godzilla/Kong crossover :D
>>
>>15304938
My word that is super groovy.
>>
>>15332259
a fucking shark ate him
>>
>>15332259
Did we watch the same movie?
>>
>>15333641
I'm...I'm unsure if you're trollin' or not. Well if you are, bait taken. I gotta 'splain some things to you.

>Kong takes place about 40 years prior to 10 Cloverfield Lane, yet the two characters are roughly the same age
>John Goodman's character becomes monster chow in Kong
>Monsters are a very new thing in the Cloverfield universe. When they saw the creature in the first movie no one said "It's just like that Godzilla incident"
>Likewise, in the Monsterverse, Godzilla was the first to be seen in a very, very long time. No one made mention of any giant monsters in New York, or an alien invasion where the ships have mouths.
>>
>>15332180
Speaking of monsters with prehistoric origins, I really hope we get to see Anguirus. Baragon, Varan, Gorosaurus, and Titanosaurus are great too, but my heart aches for Anguirus.
>>
>>15326507
>anyone thinking that vine nonsense is good

You need to bait more subtly, anon.
>>
>>15327146
It's bit of a shame the weird Chinese and Russian jaegers are basically just one-offs, yeah. I wouldn't mind seeing more weird limb configurations.
>>
>>15335193
>"Chinese and Russian jaegers are basically just one-offs."
>implying that 80-90% of both didn't survive their battles.
>implying that these new(exception of GD) aren't just retools/rebuilds of the bodies from Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon.
>>
>>15335009
>Anguirus and Titanosarus
That would be fantastic.
>>
>>15304889
every thread.
>>
>>15332259
I kinda like his Ahab/Kilgore fusion character. The staring matches with Kong were pretty great.

The log bug was great because he didn't actually fight because that's stupid. He got up and walked away when the Skullcrawler came around.
>>
>>15317233
>Such a good design that was totally thought out how it would live.
An article got a statement from one of the creature creators, and they said they were inspired by Pokemon and Miyazaki.
>>
>>15336593
>Pokemon
The monsters in this movie do feel like they would belong in a gritty version of pokemon.
>>
>>15336593
>>15336599
Miyazaki I could see but Pokemon are rarely that well thought out at all.
>>
>>15336593
>>15336604
I think it was just that the Skull Crawlers were partially inspired by Cubone.
>>
After seeing Kong, I might make peace with a potential Hollywood Ultraman film
MIGHT being the operative word here
>>
Complete cut of shin godzilla fucking when

Wednesday
>>
>>15338639
there's no way Ultraman would work sufficiently in tact but maybe they can spin it in a humorous way like Antman.
>>
>>15338639
Kong himself being huge and upright should provide insight on how to portray a CGI Ultraman.
>>
>>15310338
wtf is this garbage
>>
>>15314875
im still not going to believe kong can grow to that size.don't care how 'adolescent' it was in the movie
>>
>>15338639
I doub't that there's going to be a Hollywood Ultraman ever. Not enough brand recognition.

no, this dolt must be referring to the building damage scene where two firefighters are seen stepping into a room that was torn open where the insides of the building were visible as the camera panned out, and fucking losers who couldnt put two n two together seeing the yellow hi viz firefighter outfits in a distance immediately spurged out about MUH MOTHRA TWINS. fucking idiots.

54 Gojira is a cheat, it's from the storyboards.

>>15344318
Good, I suppose. Shin's great, but I don't really know if it needs a sequel.
I'm all in for a series with new directors, but Toho usually screws up and reuse over and over again their serviceable but unambitious directors (See: Jun Fukuda, Tadao Okawara, Masaaki Tezuka)

So does the Shin Goji Blu ray have english subs? I might import it if it does.

Shin sequel announcement was confirmed as a translation fuckup like 8 hours ago, stop spreading bullshit

>BEFORE EVERYONE GOES INSANE & SPREADS THIS MISINFORMATION...

>Unfortunately, Madman's claims of a sequel to "Shin Godzilla" could very well be premature. Their error stems from the Japanese text quoted on Madman's website is incorrect: シンゴジラの次回作及び、シン・エヴァンゲリオン劇場版: || にご期待下さい。Which was translated as so:

>"Please expect the next installment of Shin Godzilla, and Shin Evangelion Gekijōban: II".

>Rather, the correct text is: 「ゴジラ」シリーズの次回作及び「シン・エヴァンゲリオン劇場版:||」にご期待ください。Which translates as:
"Please look forward to the next entry in the 'Godzilla' series and 'Shin · Evangelion Theatrical Version: II'."

>Whether this alludes to Toho's upcoming animated "Godzilla: Monster Planet" or a follow-up of Anno's, is not clear. Seeing as "Shin" was a big boxoffice hit and garnered some Japanese Academy awards, so it wouldn't be surprising. But, the quote does not say this will be a "Shin Godzilla" sequel, just that it's the "next entry" in the "Godzilla series".
