Western mecha design is no different to Eastern one.
Robots can look good and bad depending on who's at the helm. It just so happens most people don't give a fuck about it and hire some shitty DA-tier dropouts to do their mecha and it looks like hot garbage as a result.

Tiny chicken legs, tiny arms, massive torso,... defines about 90% of DA output despite how horrendous it looks.

Because mechanical design does not sell stuff in the US.
Off the top of my head, I can only think of Halo as an example of a franchise that actually placed importance upon that and, surprise, surpirse, it's one of the good looking franchises.

Similarly, you have Del Torro and his Pacific Rim. While I didn't exactly like the movie, no one can deny there has been a ton of love put into the mecha design of it and all of them could stand on their own even outside of a Hollywood blockbuster.

It's a shame those drones only really got to be around long enough to get mowed down like mooks. They were actually really good mecha designs. I wish Hollywood execs would okay more designs like this instead of the garbage they usually force movies to use. Honestly the main problem with Western mech design is the boardrooms that run Hollywood. They choose these horrible designs like bayformers and nuRobocop even though everyone hates them and things like Star Wars and Iron Man have PROVEN that people prefer and are more willing to buy merchandise of those styles of design.

In Halo 3 the Elites were in a rebellion against the Prophets because they learned the truth about Halos. Still'loyal elites were planned but the devs worried players wouldn't be able to identify friend or foe. After 3 they've been back as the Storm Covenant, with all the classic forces (save drones). 4 and 5 actually have no brutes.
