A great start, a painfully slow middle, and a abrupt conclusion that gets fixed by a movie. Some really good stuff in there though, Ideon as a mecha can be terrifying when Tomino tries to make it so.

The things that everyone remembers the series for only happen in Be Invoked. The series itself is a pretty bog standard Tomino mecha show.

No, The movie concludes the TV series, and the recap movie prior to it does'nt quite do the series justice. Basically you just want to skip the last episode of the TV series and move on to "Be Invoked". The TV series drags, but is still necessary for working up to the movie.

My only complaint is that there's nothing in the design that indicates it was built by aliens. It looks just like a dude with antenna and shoulder pylons. Pic related is a little extreme but it's a little more in line with what I'd like. Maybe its design could change over time as they realize its sinister nature?

What is weirder is that it could only punch originally, the beamspam and missiles were all just added to it by humans. Like, its an ancient giant robot god thing, but it has easy-access mount points and power supply for standard human military hardware?
