Alto. Hayate only survived his war against the same 5 dudes over and over due to external song buffs.

Alto has more training, is naturally more talented, and has experience fighting a real conflict against a more dangerous enemy.

Aliens or not, Alto has killed multiple times with pure skill alone. But Siegfried kit wins, it's stronger and sturdier than the Messiah.

Siegfried may be slightly better specs wise, but the specs are close enough that Alto can make up for the difference with his skills.
What pack is Alto flying with?
If the VF-25 is equipped with any of its optional packs it has a good advantage over the Siegfried since the Siegfried isn't really that well-armed as compared to a Messiah with a pack(they fly with a pack most of the time)

Yes. I don't know what Kawamori was thinking, they especially look tacky when the wings sweep back for high speed mode.

Another thing I really hate about the 25 and 29 is the broken ankle cuffs, it really gives the impression that they're wearing clown shoes.

The Sig is a nuttinfancy mass production unit that has a slight advantage in atmosphere vs. the Messiah. The ones they use in Delta are decked out in support equipment for idols.

The standard equipment Messiah is pretty good, comparable to an Excalibur, but it's true appeal is the MUH MULTIROLE you get by putting a situation-appropriate Pack on it.

Even with his wind song magic, Hayate would get wrecked six ways to sunday by Alto. The difference in terms of raw skill and natural ability at being a pilot is that much the difference. Michael turned up the simulation several difficulties well above what they test for SMS entry--and only then did Alto struggle.

By the time we get to the point in Frontier, where Macross Quarter and SMS goes and does its own thing, Alto manages to damage Ozma's Messiah using an inferior, heavily AI-handled version of the Messiah; and by the time Alto reaches the end of Macross Frontier, in his Durandal, he can keep up with Berera's highly advanced Valkyrie.

All in all, Hayate does not stand a chance.

Also, Alto is highly skilled in switching between full flight, gerwalk, and battleroid on the fly as necessary and switching back to re-engage. Hayate can do this too, but not to the rapid level of fly/transform/fly that Alto can all while being in a combat scenario involving MANY dynamic targets.

The only person in Delta that can keep up with Alto would be Keith. But even Keith with song magic would get wrecked by Alto if Alto was riding his VF-29 Durandal Armored Pack.
