Both work as test pilot, but soon find themselves at war because of the performance of the Gundam created by Iori and his team. The two protagonists have no romantic attraction, but become accomplices. Something like Kazuma-Aqua relationship with more mutual respect. Hate is a pretty strong word but I thought it was disappointing overall.

First season looked like it was setting up a serious plot and ended in a way that implied shit would go down later. But then Season 2 pretty much threw all of that out the window and it was mostly silly slice of life nonsense with the mecha stuff largely taking a background role.

It's not that bad if you go into it prepared for that, but watching it as it was airing was disappointing bait and switch. It did have nice characters though.

Ara Ara Milf MC who takes care of a young feminine boy who isn't her son, but treats him like he is. Eventually they fall in love with the Ara Ara MC protecting the trap from enemy Mobile suits. Frankly I do not think that having a female protagonist is all this problem. If production can boast a good level of animation, high sound tracks and a cast with famous seyuu, people will watch it anyway.

The problem is that many mecha show sponsored by bandai are made to sell toys to Children, so a female MC in a mecha show is more likely in something made out of Gundam that does not have the intention of becoming a toy line.

I need to be completely honest I'm fine with Subaru and Teana. It does nothing to detract from them. Where I do have a problem is Nanoha and Fate living together and sharing a bed. This is because it made Fate a worthless mother for Caro. She made a choice to raise a kid, like Lindy raised her. Instead the kids are on their own while she's fucking her forever unofficially official girlfriend. It's just in flat bad taste. That's my problem with Nanoha's yuri aspects. They pander with it, but they didn't even stoop to think about its implications. If that's how it's handled I don't feel like it should be there.

Honestly I think Nanoha becoming a brand is not actually a terrible idea, especially since StrikerS showed us the problem with keeping the main cast around: they'd gotten so outrageously strong that the villains are only threatening because they've deliberately crippled themselves for most of the show, and as soon as they take their limiters off it's basically over. Switching to a fresh cast in the same setting, so that the powerlevels can be dialed back and we can get some fresh character development, is not a bad idea.

The problem has been more that they've half-assed it. Vivid wasn't a bad start at moving towards a new cast, pedobait aside, but then it just kind of abruptly stopped and switched over to yet another new cast for Vivid Strike. Then you had Force, which showed exactly why we needed to move to a new cast in the first place: the old cast had become the best mages in the world, so the only way to challenge them was with bullshit.

Series starts off with girl AI in super prototype Gundam. From then on it's her going through pilot after pilot who all keep dying on her or leaving her as she grows more and more obsolete. The final episode shows her as a barley functioning hunk of scrap rotting away in a space junk yard. Right before the audience can kill themselves out of sadness she is bought and repaired by a young mechanic that just wants a Gundam to cruise around the solar system in, which is now at peace due in part to her efforts over the years.

Can we just have a RyuKoOh/KoRyuOh Super robot/gundam concept with a female/male pilots? The female use the first configuration, but the second one is equally strong.
For the rest, any story can fit because the two characters, for obvious reasons are the protagonists at par. Sometimes it's girl to save the day, sometimes it's the boy, but both support each other.

It allows, very easily, to have a female MC without alienating the Otaku.
