Is there a way to find out if a kit comes with specific spare parts? I need a pair of H1 7's from the HGBF Zaku Amazing, as both of mine have cracks/cracked and plastic cement doesn't seem to hold it very well.

Alternatively, I could probably just cement them in place, but I'm curious if spares are available in another kit I don't have.

Something I've been wondering about. I've been doing this for a year now and there are some obvious problems I sometimes run into and one of them is that with paint/coat on the pieces it becomes harder to assemble kits since everything is thicker.

Do you guys paint your pieces, assemble and then top coat finished "parts" or do you go at it piece by piece and assemble when they are done?

I myself paint my pieces, coat them, panel wash and do decals and then top coat the individual pieces. Only then do I assemble, but like I said I sometimes run into problems where parts are harder to assemble because of the "thickness".

BACKPACKS
>>
>>15295006
Yeah, it's Bandai/Sunrise's fault which is why they're shilling out stuff that sells.
Age flopped. G-Reco flopped with gunpla.
Build Fighters sold well which is why we're still getting Build Fighters kits from the mangas and stuff.
IBO is selling relatively well with gunpla but not enough for them to invest in more 1/100s than the 4 we're getting for S2 because a lot of the 1/100s from S1 flopped as well.

What sells? UC and SEED. So we're getting a ZZ ver. ka, got a GM Sniper 2 MG, Providence MG, Justice MG etc etc etc

>>15295011
Nostalgia. Why do Americans obsessively cream themselves over G Gundam or Wing? Because nostalgia.
>>
>>15294847
What level and what are you building?
>>
>>15295025
>G-Reco flopped with gunpla

Why is this? Did the series just not do that well, or was it kit engineering? I really like most of the designs, and it's a shame I hear so many of them are sub par.
>>
>>15295040
It didn't flop. They just didn't plan releases out because they thought it'd be a failure, but by the time they realized it wasn't they had already fucked up and missed out on prime timing for releases. That's why we got a HG Catsith nearly two fucking months after the show ended. By then you already missed your free advertising window, never mind the fact that the Catsith had almost no presence after the first 1/3 of the show.

S1 of IBO did better it seems, as they had kits to go right before or alongside in-show reveals.
>>
>>15295040
Series actually got good viewership for the time slot it was in, it's just that yeah, the kits weren't all that great.
No MGs ever and all that, stickerfests galore. I recall HLJ had a sale last year where G-Reco kits were being sold for pennies, so I guess they had a big stockpile that weren't selling.

And >>15295054
>>
>>15295062
>so I guess they had a big stockpile that weren't selling.
It was mostly the Jahannam, Elf Bullock, and Gaeon. The Jahannam is a really terrible kit and the Elf Bullock wasn't much better. Not sure why the Gaeon didn't sell, it was nice.

In fact, the Elf Bullock and Mack Knife were terrible renditions of the suits and way too fat compared to the show.
>>
>>15295074
The only one I personally have is the Perfect Pack.

Wish I didn't.
>>
>>15295081
The G-self is a really poor kit too, but it seemed to do okay. The space addon was on sale for like 2 bucks though.

I have yet to build my perfect pack, the backpack looks nice to me but I know the G-self is going to be shit and it's killing my will to build it.

Despite the fact that a lot of people in beginner and intermediate should be up there (seriously there are people in beginner who are heavily modding/customising their builds).

I like what you are doing, with the shoulders. I feel the head is a little underwhelming though, because you cut of the sides of the V-fin it looks so small in comparison with the rest.

Any idea on what color scheme you are going with?

>>
>>15295140
That's pretty much what I figured. I'm just not used to doing this much scribing and surface detail altering so I was hoping for some feedback since I don't trust my own opinion.

And after looking at the intermediate category I'm surprised how nice some of them are and some could definitely be bumped up to advanced category based on the work done on them.
>>
Whichever one of you is doing god's work by telling people their kids are inelligble because they posted them on other forums/boards, bless you for making me laugh!

Primarily white and olive drag with black and dark grey as secindary colors.
>>
>>15295177
I actually like the surface detailing you have done. It's clean and not over the top (and thus distracting).

The Barbatos does not have that much armor to begin with so some small modifications are more then enough!
>>
>>15295185
>white and olive drag

So from what I can tell
Beginner is snap- build
intermediate is minor mods ( seemline etc) and painting
advanced is scratch builds and other major mods

This might be the first Denial retool kit I get.
Anyone who read the manga know it's full loadout?
>>
>>15295208
Pretty much. At the end Judges will look through entires and demote or bump them up depending on the content.
>>
>>15295208
That seems to be the idea yeah. Lots of people are posting in "the wrong" group though and people might think they have less competition by going for a lower group.

HLJ did say they will judge all the entries for their appropriate level though so I doubt people will get an edge over others.

Still there are a couple of really nice builds in that comp.
>>
>>15295216
I'm loving the MK stuff so far and that Quanta in advanced is looking pretty great considering he's painting it with hardware store spraycans.

This is my new project. A cool custom gundam just for me. The head is a placeholder for now until my next kit comes in and I give it a proper gundam head, but otherwise I think this is what I'm going with. I was lucky that the two halves fit together as well as they did, all it necessitated was removing the polycap on the Gastima legs.

The articulation on the Hydra's arms kind of suck, but I'm not exactly sure how I can solve that issue. It would be the one thing I'd like to do before declaring it complete and taking it apart for painting.

Technically non-scale. Its part of the Universal Unit candy toy line that replaced Assault Kingdom. Was not expecting them to actually be tiny model kits. Plastic is a bit stiffer and scars more easily than gunpla though.

Just make 2 MGs, one would be vanilla Barbatos with all the other parts as add ons and the other would be Lupus with all the other parts as add ons. Sell them for 4000 or something.
>>
>>15296272
Indeed. They could take what they've done with the Full Mechanic, add more detail, and give all the armor parts to make each of the forms.

Instead, they're probably going to make one or two forms, and sell the other armor parts on pBandai.

>>15296091
Yeah they are supposed to have greater detail then the AK figures did, but right now I have no idea how much of that is due to the only kits so far that have a AK counterpart are RX and Zaku which are Origin designs in the UU series. How much extra detail is truly because it is UU and not an Origin version?

I can say that so far I wish the AK line continued even with the lessened detail. My Zaku has some articulation points impacted by the sculpt. The skirt armor is fused around the sides and back as one big peice prevented any sideways movement of the legs. The Pipes that connect the upper and lower legs is not a soft plastic so the knee cant bend the full way.

Close annalysis of the seam lines do show that these are essentialy model kit versions of the AK line. If it wasn't for the extra detail I wopuld even say these could be exact same molds were used. Then again maybe the first wave or two of UU was meant to be AK originaly.

"Check fire, check fire!" came the terse warning from the Rossweise. It was little more than an azure streak lancing across Graze-chan's forward screens. By the time the iridium alloy muzzles of G-chan's 220mm smoothbores cooled from white- to orange-hot, the Man Rodi opposite them flailed, spitted from gorget armor to waist actuator like a wild boar charging upon a ready spear. The Rossweise, a high-mobility war machine peerless in its delta-v, looked satisfied somehow. Its pilot, though...

"Jesus Yamato, Doc! You mind laying off the full-auto once in awhile? It takes forever to buff spall marks out of nanolaminate."

Closing to a few kilometers and inspecting their kill, Doc shrugged. Her graze, heavily modified for orbital assault using a Kutan and scrapped weapons, shrugged its armored shoulders in tandem. The AV system itched all along her spinal cord, but it translated her motor neurons' intentions well enough. "Don't vector in front of me when I'm in shooty boom mode and we have no problems," Doc replied simply.

Sometimes the experiments don't work. Whisper Koneko (pic related) has been on hold for about a year while I remain stumped.

That's the Assyrian Armored Core, basically someone's personalized version of a common Lego MS mega-build that they used as the center-piece of their Brikwars army.

Notably it owner eventually dismantled it due to it being so HUEG she couldn't build proper weapons for it to hold.

My own Brikwars armies make use of much smaller, more manageable mechs.

Dreider vs Nuka and Vanguard vs Rossweisse would essentially be like Kampfer vs GM Sniper K9 and Wing Gundam Fenice vs Build Strike, respectively.

Drieder vs Nuka would play out like survival horror, with the Drieder able to scale buildings and walls, as well as having a bigger arsenal than the axe and rifle of the Nuka. Its multi-leg system basically ensures that it has better rough-terrain mobility than the Nuka, and has more advanced systems.

However what the Nuka lacks in armaments, it more than makes up for in tactics, resourcefulness, and sheer determination. All the Nuka needs is one good strike and the Drieder would be down: a well-placed rifle shot from above, an axe from behind or above, maybe even demolishing a building while the Dreider is scaling it.

The Vanguard vs Rossweisse would involve the terrain more than tactics. The Vanguard's pilot would be stupid to try and face the Rossweisse in the open air. It would go into the canyon and wait in the shadows, sniping at the Rossweisse and grounding it, making it all but useless.

However, the Rossweisse needs to be hit first, and due to its Trans-Am (or equivalent) capability, it would be night impossible for the Vanguard to do a direct hit, and it can move in and out for a direct strike, though the shield can prove to be problematic.

The battle would basically be a game of chicken: if the Vanguard fires a shot, his position gets revealed and he loses the advantage of stealth. If the Rossweisse charges first, it has to move into melee range and deal with the shield and putting it into a poorer position.

Hmm. Supply-side logistics hurt Zeon over time too. Anon, both of the builds you liked are mine and neither uses any paint other than cheap spray cans. I am just starting into airbrushing. No pressure to spend a lot!

Thin your paints a lot, handpaint at right angles for each layer, and just have fun with it over time!

If you're using cheap, nontoxic acrylics, almost any household cleaner will strip them:

> isopropyl alcohol
> nail polish remover (acetone)
> purple power
> thinners
> lighter fluid
> That biodegradable green stuff, evergreen?

and it's always ok to try again with a messed up piece. Building gunpla can be a nice mindful meditation.

I had to plan to deliberately ruin an SD kit to get over my own hang-up with paints. I still use that kit to experiment with all kinds of insane ideas and tests. For example, just think how your gf's or sister's mascara might cheaply and surprisingly effectively mimic the look of a carbon-scored blast crater, applied properly. You're surrounded by paints solvents and materials, if only you'll look! Decanted hairspray is another effective solvent for all sorts of paint cracking, chipping, and crazing effects.

/blog also

Pic related is battle damage with a soldering iron, but a metal coat hanger + stovetop is about as effective!

--
Koto's Heavy Weapon Unit 15, Selector Rifle, has some nice barrel ends that look very much like the weapon isn't just a slug thrower - http://myfigurecollection.net/item/500638

Heavy Weapon Unit 08, Sentry Gun, has a unique look for its main barrels as well - http://myfigurecollection.net/item/411786

Heavy Weapon Unit 02, Spiral Crusher, is a good base if you want something that looks like a lot of "lightning guns" with 3 arches surrounding/spinning around a coil or cylinder - http://myfigurecollection.net/item/126322
--
Their Gimmick Unit 01, Outside Generator, can help with that feeling of something that's explicitly powered rather than just looking like another gun - http://myfigurecollection.net/item/480629
--
You could also go for something more extreme altogether and create something based on Jak 3's Arc Wielder! It SPINS to win and would look unique in Gundam https://youtu.be/u4T-O3joDCU?t=1m1s

Colours will have great impact in selling the idea, maybe even get some lightning effect parts (tamashii brand?) or a blue LED to indicate that charged, ready-to-fire state

Also I forgot to mention earlier but in the way of decals a deer's hoof print came to mind. Many factors involved, mainly the color scheme the name Graze and that you wanted it to be a ground fighter.

In Norse Mythology there are a number of grazing animals that are significant, so maybe the hoof print of one of them could strike your fancy for this: http://molly.kalafut.org/mythology/Norse/animals.html

Oberon*, sorry. Don't know why I said galeron. It's a king of faeries in some old folklore and Shakespearean stories. He's represented by a deer in some instances.

Late replies also seem to be a theme between us.

Now then - lightning theme huh? Now I know I was talking to 2 of you at some point, but I don't recall either of you mentioning a suit abundant in yellow.

If you're the ground/desert/urban warfare 1/100 Schwalbe Graze guy (or even if not), it's interesting that the lightning is now a theme. I was just mentioning the arc caster as an alternative weapon, not the primary.
I just assumed there'd be a more conventional rifle, IBO-verse as the setting or not. Still, if that's where you're inclined to take this then by all means! Brown and blue is a fine combination after all.
--
Hearing about a forest/terraformer (oh gosh, Mars, Terraformars) Graze contrasts well with the idea of a desert/urban combat one.
Oberon looks pretty cool. I like that mace. Your mention of a lightning theme actually had me joking in my head that you might as well give it a giant bug-zapper lantern-flail sort of tool, capable of knocking out Pluma in a single, solid hit. Ah, the potential of Gunpla.

Thank you. So just to make sure I have this right, I cut like this, right?

I'm the same dude. I'll name fag just to make it easier. I thought you'd suggested the arc gun as a primary, but either way, it's a neat Idea.

I think making it seem like a MS that was originally designed for fighting on more flush environment that's been rendered barren would be neat. Like having hints of an older paint job underneath scratched in the tan/brown paint or something.

I grabbed some more primer and OD green tonight at Hobby Lobby, so I may test it out alongside some of the tan/brown and see how I like it.

I feel like a shotgun/machete combo would make sense for a forest/jungle, so it could have one or both slung up somewhere and rusted from years of disuse in the desert, while it carries something more suited to fighting in the desert that's more worn, but has been better maintained.

The bigger ones on the lower legs were extras from the EZ-SR, the smaller ones were from both the Thunderbolt Zaku II's big gun, and an old Zudah I scrapped for parts.

>>15299770
I'd do it more like this.

Got it. Thanks again.

Your Graze is really taking on a life of its own, eh? Wherever it takes you, I hope you're happy.
Can't say I've ever seen a custom where it intentionally has another paint job hiding beneath.
>>
>>15299813
i've seen it on german tanks painted up for winter, and they do it to make the paintjob look quick
>>
>>15299813
I paint my guns sometimes, so I've got experience with messing up a paint job and covering it up instead of stripping it. Maybe I can paint it first with a green or something, paint over it with the tan and such, then sand it around some of the edges/contact points.

Current job on the pistol.
>>

You might have better success if you first protect the under color layer with some strong clear coat, maybe lacquer? That way the sandpaper (or salt or hairspray ) method you use to reveal that lower layer won't get too aggressive.

Beam claws are great. they can be used to pew pew or as manipulators or just a way to hold the enemy still while you murderize it.

this sounds vaguely interesting. Both to see what people build and field and to see how my creations end up.
>>
>>15299863

Stick around if you like it, if not no harm done and back to building gunpla without gaming with it.
>>
>>15299853
That's kinda what I had in mind. One coat of a green color scheme, then top coat, then whatever the final scheme winds up as.

Also, hairspray method? I've never seen that.
>>
>>15299873

Searching "Scale model hairspray paint" on YT brought up a bunch a promising tutorials. Not sure if we're ok to link stuff like that here.
>>
>>15299877
Neat. I'll look into it
In other news, the frame is all primed now. After it cures, I'll snap it together one more time and start mixing and matching parts on hand until I get something I like. I may modify the rifle that came with the Graze to look like a shotgun.
>>
>>15299819
Oh, I'd meant custom purely in the model kit sense. I've seen custom paintjobs like that in real life. Never seen these German tanks though so thanks for the research material.

>>15299824
Those look nice, quite nice indeed. I've never really 'followed' a build like this so it's exciting too. A long and worthy build ahead.

>>15299857
>murderize
I still can't get over how Mudie Holcroft was murdered and not as a matter of morality really. It's just how bloodthirsty do you have to be to make your giant mech act like an animal and gore something to death?

I'm sure it's not the plan, but the thought of a mobile armour that can carry more than one Gundam is most appealing.

After learning Lastborn's name I now know what to put on the custom decals I'm ordering from samueldecal.

Plan is for it to be a PG kitbashed 178 Mk-II's big backpack. This lineart is all screwed up in perspective but it conveys the general idea
