Many mecha anime like most of the Dynamic Pro ones have concurrent manga adaptations serialized while the shows are airing, does that count?

Drawing those intricate mechanical designs is really fucking difficult and best left to larger animation teams instead of small manga teams (usually one artist and a couple of assistants at most) who don't have weekly/monthly deadlines.

Also, mecha was made to sell toys, which doesn't work as well in black and white.

Even though the game was released later it was completed before the show was.

Most good shows are originals, mecha or not. Novels also tend to produce good adaptations whereas manga almost guarantee them to be shit.
