I'm on the same boat with >>15292276 , watch the first at least because most AU grab alot of concepts fron the original and the rest of UC.
If you (for some reason) don't want to go through all the gundam franchise, watch at least Gundam, Zeta Gundam and Char''s counter attack and then watch the one picks your interest, beacuse those three shape alot of other gundam
