Yeah, I think he should quit directing whilst he's at it. IBO had some great potential, imo, but his direction ruined it. Thing I hate the most is how characters never really develop, and learn all the wrong lessons. IBO feels like a purgatorial universe where those who do learn their lesson, even a little bit, either die or become irrelevant, leaving little progression, if not outright regression. Also, seemingly important plot points are just dropped (I'm looking at Kudelia and all the Maiden of the Revolution stuff from S1, rn). The biggest problem has nothing to do with the substance but the pacing and a retarded audience.

First let's get one thing straight. We on this very board have retards who can't even understand the intentional dramatic irony of McGillis's MUH BAEL bullshit. The show has good substance on occasion but it's missed by idiots, but they pick up on the explicit fluff which isn't great, it's just pointless filler.

This 1 talky episode, 1 action episode nonsense has to stop. It's a bad meme and quite a few bad anime use it. There's 0 tension and you lose people's interest when you spend an entire episode just having every single character stand around and talk for 22 minutes straight. It's complete nonsense. They don't adhere strictly to 1 talky, 1 action, but that's the general pattern. That said, S2 has improved in pacing compared to S1, which was dogshit.

I'm not sure there's an easy way to fix the pacing. A dirty fix would probably be to simply reduce the talky stuff by having info by implied or inserted quickly into other talky scenes and compressing the show so you don't lose all tension on these set up episodes.

And for one I don't think the MA needed so many episodes, it could've been done in one or one and a half with much higher tension. I don't know why they had like three breaks for MUH planning. It was powerful and all but nowhere near apocalyptic enough to have them draw it out. Taking control out of Tekkadan's hands completely and forcing them to face it head on on the spot would've made it more frightening.

Remember, before Ein and McGillis adults couldn't get the AV implants needed to pilot the Gundam. They physically couldn't get them because there was a 100% chance a fully-grown body would reject the nanomachines. AV was developed during the Calamity War so Gundams to fight the mobile armors.

Agnika and the original pilots would have had the surgery during their childhoods in order for it to take. The surgery was a new thing at the time, developed for this conflict. The numbers are all there, it's all a matter of adding the together. Gjallarhorn's powerbase comes from the success of AV-equipped, Gundam-piloting child soldiers.

Martians and spacenoids are some of the most corrupt and vile people in the show. In fact, the entire 1st few arcs might as well be about how spacenoids are terrible people.

McGillis's plan has a similar problem. If power is what's most important Mars is going to get shit on all over again because their economy is nearly worthless and besides metal they have no strong exports. They're economically and societally weak and even the people at Dort are just relying on Earth sphere businesses for their income. They have almost no interplanetary businesses of their own.

The only thing that can be really improved is to outlaw discrimination against them by businesses, but who would hire a dirty martian rat if you have to pay them the same amount of money and give them benefits of earthnoid employees? It'd be cheaper to just automate the work instead.

There's not much to do to help Mars realistically other than try to gain the sympathies of Earthnoids and hope for a slow and methodical regime change. Even if Gjallarhorn were to collapse they would never stand a chance against Earth and they have no hope of living better without Earth's support.

The only discrimination we've seen are some Earthnoids against people with cyber implants like AV, and the hierarchy of Seven Star>Seven Star favourite>Earthnoid>Earth Sphere colonist>Beyond Earth Sphere colonist.

Also implying that Martians are used for cheap labor at all. It seems like Mars already has an unemployment problem and everything that can be automated already is. The only reason they haven't automated the mercenary jobs is because there's probably been a ban on combat-capable automated robots (like MA) by Gjallajorn since the Calamity war. From what we've seen most Martians either work in the half-metal mines, work as prostitutes, mercenaries, criminals, unemployed or some combination. There are also relatively few skilled workers on Mars. We've usually seen a handful of them, each with a different specialization, and very rarely a team of them working together.

They weren't planning on Unicorn TV. Sunrise had a show called Brave Beats that was dying in it's timeslot. They had to drop it halfway through and replace it with a Unicorn otherwise they would have lost the timeslot for future shows.
