I think what draw people toward Shino and Yamagi was that it was normalized and not evil, they were really just members of Tekkadan as anyone else.

It's a very refreshing aspect to homos you don't see much in Japanese work. Even Shino doesn't go "b-but we are both guys".

You can't use that excuse when the show tells you Shino knew Yamagi had feelings for him and didn't reject him.

He's no longer obvious to Yamagi's affection, he knows it and accepts him and ask him to go out alone.

Not really because they were actually couples or at least very much established to have mutual feelings that was established episodes prior to to their deaths. Shino knowing about Yamagi's feelings all the time, while still fucking prostitutes, and only brought it up minutes before he died feels more insulting than progressive.
