Big question here: How the fuck did they reach Mars so quickly? The time it takes for a modern-day real life spaceship to reach Mars is about 6 months, and that's only when the planets are perfectly aligned. IBO spaceships don't seem to have any warp drives or hyperspace engines or anything either. So then how did they reach Mars in what seems like a few days at most? Hell, given the progress of repairs, it looks like they made the trip in a few hours.

The torso houses the ahab reactors, the special element of the Gundams are their synchronized reactors. The cockpit would also house the main computer of the suit, giving whomever gets it access to whatever data is onboard. Data like how to manufacture the appropriate parts for the suit.

Remember that Teiwaz made a Dainslief based on the Flauros' internal schematics for one. Gjallarhorn probably has all that shit on record, but having direct access from the suit is still probably beneficial in some way.

I feel like we've harped on the Calamity War, how much war sucks, the Gundams and the order of seven stars shit too much to not have at least one more "Right - these machines were made to kill the unstoppable robot killing machines, not people." moment. Like it'll just be a fucking gundam party on Mars and they'll rise from their grave some more.

McGillis is a sociopath who never opened up to the people he called his friends in all the years he spent with them. It's heavily implied he killed people whenever he was threatened. But the thing is, neither Carta nor Gaelio were threatening him in any way, and neither deaths were necessary for his plans. So the only conclusion is he killed them for another reason entirely.
Personally I think it was a way for him to get back at them for being happy spoiled brats who never saw nor suspected the shit he was going through as a child and yet had the nerve to call themselves his friends. He repressed those negative, murderous feelings for years, covering them up with a mask because they could slow down his rise up the ladder if he acted on them, and as soon as he could act on them with complete impunity, or more acurately, as soon as he created the conditions to act on them with complete impunity, he let them out.
