What if this Brave thing is testing ground for Toei to try more mature storylines? Judging from the edgy Kyoryuzin, maybe they don't want to touch Sentai's look and feel until they see how the Korean version goes. Has Sentai ever been mature?
As far back as Goranger it was envisioned to be a lighthearted family series with cool, but funny spies and ugly, but funny enemies. That doesn't preclude you from having a good superhero plot but it's supposed to be a "fun" series (as opposed to Kamen Rider which was always veering into the edgier territory, what's with people getting melted into the ground).

Making Sentai edgy is such horsecock, just look at the upcoming Hollywood movie, it looks like a joke, and most importantly boring (though not in the least because of awful Bayformer-esque mecha designs). Yeah sure there was Go-Busters and Timeranger but even they mostly adhered to the "cool but funny" thing with character quirks or funny plots or the buddyroids in the former.

Well, Kamen Rider is steering into the Sentai-like format lately, although they still have way more mature storylines (lol gasha and Mighty Action ECKS!). While Sentai ain't much of a mature show, as you said, Timeranger and Go-Busters had their slightly more mature in comparison storylines than, say, Ninninger or Carranger. Jetman while on air was considered trendy because it was kind of played as a drama, Shinkenger was kind of a drama as well, and was successful as all hell.

I'm not saying Sentai should be edgier, but maybe a slight increase in pandering to older people instead of children for toys alone. Hell, HikkiNEET have mad dosh from their parents, and they might even help with the sales by themselves if they find something that interests them greatly. Look at the horseshit that SAO is, and look at how popular it is.

One of the biggest problems for those two series is that they simply exist by each other, cannibalizing each other's mindshare and toy sales. The same thing happened in the 90s with Sentai and Metal Heroes when Metal Heroes started to turn into a discount Sentai and lose people a bit because of it. Try as they might, just moving starting times around is not enough. That is why Toei has been trying to break out from TV Asahi's direct control with web projects such as Amazons and if this fight success that way it might be better for both Sentai and Rider.

No-no-no, trendy drama was the name of a genre that emerged in the 80s, dubbed so because it was portraying love relationships and modern trends of youth. Jetman simply mimicked that type of melodrama program and you can tell they didn't take it seriously at all, because how can you, in the setting of Sentai? Also, it had honest-to-god PSAs at the end of some episodes. It was popular though, because it was good and the characters had distinct personalities.

It's playing up the "Lucky is the best and we need to all listen to him" angle too much for my liking. Red focus doesn't bother me, because it's Sentai, I know what I'm getting in to with it, but when it's a character like Lucky getting it, it's annoying as hell.

Spada, Balance and Champ are okay so far. Hoping they'll get better in future. Naga is easily the most entertaining by far. Nothing has happened yet to make me care about any of the others, but I do hope the dragon stops being a dingle soon. We don't really need another bumbling but totally not character.

Robots and toys are pretty eh, but that doesn't take away from the show too much for me.

Lucky isn't a character, he's a cheat device for the writers to move from point A to point B. We need to find Kyurangers? Lucky has the script. The team is in trouble?
