Or, alternatively, un/m/entionables. It's hip and cool to integrate board letters into words, right?

/m/ works that generally get extremely little coverage.

I own this comic; surprisingly little submarine fighting but still a lot of machine fun.

For those who don't know, it's a tie-in-ish book of sorts for the IREM submarine sidescroller SHMUP "In The Hunt".

Fuck off, Busterbeam.

Who now? I don't follow most namefags.

He's a guy who stalks my Twitter. I've had a Gear avatar for a while, talked about in on length and posted that particular cover saying it's amazing.

Anyway Gear is really good stuff OP. I might buy the colored version when I can afford it since some of the drawings work better that way than they do in B&W (while others are perfect as they originally were). The robot hijacking element is cool as hell and I love that the story was delivered mostly pretty seriously despite the super-cartoony art style. To compare it to Tennapel's more well known creations it was a lot more like The Neverhood in that it had completely earnest world-building and story that just happened to be delivered with silly art and occasional jokes compared to Earthworm Jim which is full of direct jokes about real world pop culture, randomness and and whatnot.

I guess one thing that might bother some (not me), I guess those who are staunchly anti-Christian or would've wanted something grittier, is that it's really unashamedly religious and has an extremely optimistic view of the world where everyone who gets killed that is a decent person will end up in Heaven. But hey, The Neverhood was Christian as hell too.

Also, great use of of the unique aspects of the medium.

Neat, it seems like the kind of title Udon would pick up on a whim.

>>15261263
For a modern neophyte reference, it's closer in tone to Newts?

What the fuck? I liked that game, I had NO IDEA it had a manga. Now I wanna read it.

I picked up the colored version on Amazon for cheap. Seriously; used on Amazon right now it's just five bucks.

>>15261650
It's not translated unfortunately, and again is a bit light on submarine action I feel.

Sure, but I live in shithole Romania and no one ships here except for the Amazon Prime links.

I really gotta check out this guy's work since his art style is fantastic. Wasn't big on his FLCL since I think the anime interpretation of the premise is perfect but I'm sure I'd love his other stuff.

He also did some MariMite comedy doujin that looked cute.

Speaking of STG adaptations, there was also a manga made for Batsugun, Toaplan's swan song. I don't know if any more than a couple pages were scanned, but it looks like it could be a fun read.
>>
>>15265052
I've wanted to play Batsugun for months, it looks like a really cool shmup. Didn't know that one had a manga either.
>>
>>15265084

Break down whatever barrier is preventing you from playing it ASAP, because it is a really rad game.

And while not topic related, I just want to take a moment to splurge about what a bloody fantastic year 1993 was for STGS:
Batsugun
Bio Metal
Cybattler
Eliminate Down
In The Hunt
R-Type III
Raiden II
RayForce
Mahou Daisakusen
V-V

Really, stand out selection. And I'm very certain I missed a few.

i remember downloading it from a link a kind anon gave in a thread.
it was a nice read, quite bittersweet and batshit insane though
>oh hey those are the cats from catscratch, guess it will be a not so serious rea-
>gordon and waffle dies, mr blik tells to village where they live to go fuck themselves for hidding waffle's secret and using him to fight a grand scale war with three tribes, and spends the rest of his life alone with the fishes in a pond that waffle wanted
>not to mention mafia, assasains, ancient relics to activate world ending devices and robots, and coalitions to destroy the other tribes
> robotic notklayman suffering and dying
it was really something else.

Picked up my copy from TenNapel himself at a convention. I knew it was dark going in, but it was still a bit of a shock that Catscratch came from it.

I knew about Gear before Catscratch. I actually expected it to be a lot MORE dark than it was. I knew it was gonna be gory and have death and shit in it but I didn't expect the extremely optimistic portrayal of the afterlife.
>>15265315
Oh I really enjoyed RayForce too. I remember one of the bosses being a fairly cool giant robot to boot.

Also, this type of really cartoony action in an otherwise serious story makes me think of Tezuka.
>>
Super Robot Red Baron. It's so hard to put for free online that even /m/ Subs had problems ripping the R1 DVDs. Pretty fun watch though.

Well shit, now I wanna see it.
