Are there any other examples of mechs where the pilot is kept suspended in what amounts to an artificial womb, controlling the mech through a neural interface?

Graze Ein, piloted by Gundam IBO's Best Boy, Ein Dalton after he is totally paralyzed
The titans in warhammer 40k are basically that. Read Titanicus by Dan Abnett. It's like mech combat combined with submarine combat.
Bartools, generic fanservice mecha anime.

That's literally Evangelion. The pilots float in a tank of amniotic fluid (albeit, amniotic fluid of a giant alien monstrosity) and control the Evangelion with a neural interface made from their mothers' souls. Oh, and they get in there by being inserted through a long phallic shaft. Evangelion is not terribly subtle.

That one shitty /m/anga Ishikawautists like to pretend was the sole inspiration for Eva, Jackyo or whatever.

Outside of Evangelion, Brain Powered is the other notable one

Personally, I think it's ridiculous to imagine that known mecha otaku Anno would have read and taken inspiration from previous mecha series.

One of the Mazinger reimaginings (the one where Sayaka gets tentacled in her hoo-hah)The Abyss
A lot of mecha do this, not just evangelion.
Dreadnoughts anybody? The oldschool RT book actually mentions that the pilot cabin is a tank of 'amniotic fluid' and I believe the pilot takes the fetal position as well.

A lot did it even before Evangelion, too.it sounds petty pointing this out but fuck it, it's eva fans' fault that we have to
