We do however get Basara saying that he likes rain when Ray says they're nice to have as a fallback and compares it to taking an umbrella. It implies, rather heavily I would think, that he's gonna take them out. If he was going to eventually change his mind something with him acknowledging why, even if not to Ray seems pretty necessary. So what advancements will the mass produced or limited production new VFs have? Will they finally have some form of built in FTL, or bubble pin point barriers (like I think the YF-29 had)? The VF-31 introduced the folding weapons compartments, and briefly used some drones, though the Windermere units had more militarized ones. Maybe the VF-35 will have some kind of drones?

The cuteboi from Frontier had two drones, so did the Draken IIs, but none of them were anywhere near as (comparatively) powerful as the original Ghost. And VFs have had pinpoint barriers on the YF-19, but only on the shield. I'm not sure about after that, I assumed the barrier required a fold system to create. Why not make a full surrounding barrier and nuke another city, like in SDF?

The thing that allows him to make the final move is Myung finally singing for herself, rather than hiding behind Sharon because she doesn't have the confidence to do it herself. Myung's singing wakes Isamu from Sharon's hypno-sleep because he couldn't block her out or stop her through force. Her singing is the key part of the resolution. Isamu didn't even really fight afterwards, he just flew his plane in to the Sharon's control room to destroy her because there was no other way of doing it and he knew he couldn't do it by himself or by conventional means at that point. His main motivation for a lot of the film is Myung too. Without Myung, her singing and Isamu's desire for her he couldn't defeat Sharon.

I worded that badly. Drones aren't new, but pack-on/miniaturized drones like the Lil'Drakens and those the VF-31 used to support Walkure were. I was suggesting the VF-35 would have something comparable to the Lil'Draken, which was not just a mini-drone with on board weapons capable of helping in attack or defense, but could act as added thrusters when docked.
