I want to see a mech anime that's like the book Team Yankee (or World in Conflict), but with all the crazy proposals from the 80s taken to the extreme. Hovercraft platforms for launching fighters from damaged airfields. F-16s and A-10s using pods of "brilliant" tank hunting missiles. M-X missiles being based in a massive shell game using a high-speed rail system in the desert, and on modified 747 and C-5 aircraft that launch drop them out the tail end. "Strategic defense" battleships designed with blended hull features to survive nearby nuclear detonations. The B-1R Heavy Interceptor. Nuclear shaped charges being used to power lasers to shoot down satellites.

The AGM-124 Wasp brilliant missile. Basically it would have replaced the AGM-65 in the anti-armor role, because a single pod carried 12 radar guided missiles that would automatically each attack a different target, the idea being that a A-10 or F-16 could just pop up over a hill and volley off a couple pods, wiping out enemy armored units before they could react. The missiles actually did work, despite a incident during testing where a missile locked onto a car driving down a highway 50 miles away from the test range, but the program was killed by the Reagan administration for being too expensive. Ironically if it had entered service, the A-10 would still be viable as a anti-armor aircraft.

> M-X missiles being based in a massive shell game using a high-speed rail system in the desert
The shell game M-X basing scheme was dumb. You want to go lulzy M-X basing schemes look at the deep basing schemes. You don't need to run a complicated shell game if your missile's shelter can take a direct hit from a 100 MT warhead.

>>15228423
It wouldn't be anymore viable than an F-16 or F-15E which would be able to carry a similar number of them. The problem with using PGM to justify keeping the Warthog as a tank killer is the fact that you can fit those same PGMs onto any other fighter and have the same capability.

>>15228480
747 Cruise Missile Carrier would be a better option for weaponizing a 747. One aircraft would have carried anywhere from 80-100 ALCMs.

And there's the thing about how the A-10 is fucking dead the minute it goes up against any air defenses more advanced than Mohammad driving a truck with a.50 cal mounted on the back.

Testors came out with a 1/48 model kit of the Stealth Fighter in 1986 before the real F-117 design was revealed

>Testors assumed that in order to deflect radar waves, the F-19 would be sleek and streamlined and would somewhat resemble Lockheed’s other-worldly SR-71. Testors stuck a pair of standard-issue vertical stabilizers on its 1/48-scale model and packaged it up. Some 700,000 sold almost immediately, making it the best-selling model ever, surpassing even AMT’s Star Trek USS Enterprise.

I have never heard this used to describe anything other than a box which holds pencils. A few searches later, I guess you mean that it's cramped and uncomfortable, and are implying that the upper dome is empty. But that's silly: even the image filename says "Cargo Bay". Clearly, cargo goes there.

Is it specially made only for transporting material which is bulky and incompressible but not very dense?

It had wings and tail fins but they were chopped off when they retired it (Along with the engines). In addition to the wings, the body shape also provided a good deal of lift as well, especially when operating at low altitude using the ground effect.

What always impresses me was that there were plans to make it VTOL. They wanted to bury a vertically oriented lift engines in the body, but they never got around to it.

It had a 15(maybe even more):1 KDR during the last Red Flag exercise against aggressors that were way more experienced with the planes they were flying. It's sensors and datalink also boosts older gen fighters and ships since they can use data from the F35 to engage targets that are outside of their sensor range.

Drones aren't what killed off the initial plans for Proteus. The fact is that there really wasn't much of a commercial demand for that sort of system at the time.

That said Proteus is an amazing aircraft and it's hard to think of many aircraft that have contributed to as many different programs as it has.
