Is this what Evangelion would've been if the director wasn't a depressed fuck?

Also, is the movie really a prequel? It would kind of explains that ring that has his and Eureka's name Renton found on the earth's surface in the late episodes but then there's that scene with movie Holland "seeing" the moon from the end of the TV series which implies it's an alternate universe.

>1960's counter-culture hipsters running a paramilitary operation against the government to unearth secret alien conspiracies using surfing mecha

Sounds fun as hell, but the plotting didn't really have a definite-enough direction in the first half, and it stumbled over its own contrived sci-fi concepts in the latter half. Characters were vibrant, but their arcs weren't as air-tight as I'd have liked them to be.

Compared to most other /m/ shows, however, E7 is easily up there among the best IMO. It's got an 11/10 aesthetic, and the writing managed to stay interesting from episode to episode despite the lack of a more coherent main plot.

But everyone here only wants to talk about the pointless movie/sequel, which don't even deserve discussion.

But let's hear your ass backwards opinion based on whatever dumb minuscule observation you stupidly believe is of any importance.

What I wrote were incredibly basic observations of what are practically truisms about the show, echoed by just about everyone with more than half a brain who's seen it. The plotting sucked, but the aesthetic was unique and had a lot of effort put into it. I'm sorry if your opinions are so fucked beyond repair that such a lukewarm analysis triggered you.

It's an enjoyable show that drags on for a bit too long and gets kind of dumb near the end.
>>
Felt like they could've moreorless covered everything in half the amount of episodes with no detriment to the story. Most of the main cast were pretty uninteresting but the sci-fi hippie vibe is unique enough to carry it all.

Also check out Gundam X

At least twice as long as it should have been.

I've tried to watch it three times and only ever make it like ten episodes in. It fucking sucks and is boring as hell despite having interesting robots

Pretty much my fav M show after Macross and Gundam. Did not like AO all that much, but E7 vanilla was really amazing.
>>
>>15223441
It's a great lesson on the importance of coordinating your story with your J-Pop. Having a dozen tired, depressing episodes end with FLY AWAY FLY AWAY did not make for an effective emotional experience.

Why do E7 and Gundam X always get brought up in each other's threads? What do they have in common besides being a teen boy-meets-girl story with Mecha?
>>
>>15226169
I'd also guess the whole set up where they're just traveling around for a while, rather than part of a larger war.

And as far as the main pairing goes, there's also how the protagonists are normal, while the girl is the one that's special.
>>
>>15223461
what sequel are you talking about? I just remember some kind of special soundtrack that might have been just some kind of tribute

Incorrect on both accounts.

If you don't like it you don't like it, never seen a show liked by everyone. Just drop it if you haven't already anon.
>>
>>15227166
Sound contrarian as fuk anon, can you elaborate on your responses a bit. I agree the show has pretty weak writing but the visuals are pretty good even if they're not used all that well in action scenes with a lot of combat.
>>
>>15223618
Have to disagree here anon, I liked a lot of things about the show about as much as the average fan but you have to admit the story as a whole was weak even if it did have some interesting scenes from time to time.

I still can't deal with the fact that AO had a fucking gun that rewrote reality every time it was fired

what the fuck was that shit
>>
>>15223461
Successful shows ALWAYS get sequels. Gotta cash in.
>>
I actually liked AO and would like to know other people's opinions on it because i don't really get the hate for it.

What a well thought out and compelling argument. (You) sure changed my mind, there.

>>15228808
Yet the original having a mechanism in which the Nirvash can sht down all LFOs so that Renton and Eureka would never have to kill people is okay?
>>
>>15230460
That didn't screw things up anywhere near as much though. Yeah it's a plot device but I thought the way that happened halfway through the show was pretty inspirational.
>>
>>15230460
>device that interacts with the scub can destroy devices made of scub

wow what a plot hole
>>
>>15223752
he's just communicating how the mouthbreathers over at /a/ and /v/ do, you don't post any constructive discussion and never show your own views so you can always shitpost without getting his fragile ego hurt
>>
>>15223612

>Sounds fun as hell, but the plotting didn't really have a definite-enough direction in the first half, and it stumbled over its own contrived sci-fi concepts in the latter half.

This. The second half is too busy crawling up it's own ass with pseudo-intellectual metaphysics bullshit to be fun like the first half was. The ending was great, but not worth going through 25+ episodes of crap about Buddhists and The Golden Bough.
>>
>>15231118
I thought it was pretty well established a lot of those references weren't done right. As for the limit of questions thing, I also thought the story could've achieved the same level of tension using another plot device.

I thought the show's biggest weakness was being too vague on the central story as it is.
