To be sure, I don't think the small amount of footage shown is a total lie or somehow won't even appear in the show, but how they are framing it is the issue.

Again, the PV has an overly sappy song that's neither the OP nor the ED. It's basically an insert song sung by the characters and not the actual artists.

The pink/blue logo at the end of the PV is not even the main logo either. In fact, they're using a completely different logo that is closer to the one from the teaser. That's not common.

The preview totally sidesteps even hinting or talking about anything of importance. During the Nico Nico broadcast of the event where the PV was revealed, they refused to answer questions about ID0, who is arguably going to be the second most important character in the show.

The I-machines and their role or about the whole memory issue, despite that still being a relevant part of the plot summary, is not even hinted at in the PV.

In short, it is quite suspicious when you stop to smell the roses.

They put the images out of context and eventually surprise the audience, if not during episode 1 then by 2 or 3, which will then generate some online buzz once the hammer hits its target.

Everything in the previews for Madoka still happened, as far as I'd recall. But obviously there was more to the show than that and nobody expected it to go into some dark places.

Not saying that is what will happen here though, but we've seen that in other ways before. Ga-Rei Zero had all of its promo art and previews showing this whole cast of characters in uniforms who died pretty damn quickly (eps 1 to 2, IIRC) and were mostly replaced by the real stars.

Or how about the Trigun anime? That had more time available, but I can't imagine non-manga readers who were watching the anime for the first time would imagine where that show eventually went with its themes about the costs of pacifism and Vash being way less of a fool than he seemed for multiple episodes.
