What the fuck happened?
I was really enjoying it up to the halfway point and then suddenly it took a deep nosedive in quality and pacing. Did they not have enough episodes or something? I mean fuck, the conflicts didn't even get resolved in the last few episodes.
I would've put this right behind Frontier as the best Macross (which I have tied with SDF Macross) and above Zero, 7, and Plus had it kept up past 12-13 episodes and didn't crash and burn so hard.
For the first time I actually liked the younger love interest character over the older one in the entire series, and the music that came out of Delta was good too. The characters were all likeable. I never really thought I'd like Walkure because of idolshit, but they really made each of them as good characters.
Would Delta have been fixed had it had more than 26 episodes?
>>15221905
The show was originally supposed to be the first half + a movie to wrap things up. They decided to extend the show to two cours instead. They then just half-assed the second half by stretching out what was supposed to be the plot of the movie.
Delta having too few episodes isn't the problem, the problem is it had too many episodes for the amount of plot they had.
>>15221975
It doesn't help that there is going to be a new entry for the upcoming anniversary, making all of this moot and redundant.
Kaname > Freyja > Mikumo > Reina > Makina
>>15221975
That might address the pacing issue, but presuming that the plot of the movie would have been roughly the plot of the second half of the show (just more tightly written) that doesn't actually address any of the huge narrative problems with Delta.
>>15224748
It was stated in several interviews by different people working with Kawamori that he doesn't like to (or most likely just simply can't) think too far ahead. Lots of plotlines were never resolved probably because Kawamori didn't even imagine how to resolve them when he started them. Normally main director's and screenwriter's responsibility is to fix that, but unfortunately they were talentless faggots as well. Just check their previous works - they are literally whos without any major works. I hope producers will hire better staff next time.
>>15221905
My problem was too many characters. They didn't even have time for all the idols.
>>15225247
This.
Also if you check on Delta's staff, you can see that the majority of them only handled AKB0048. That's right, that Idol show Kawamori somehow made. Other than Kawamori, none of them ever worked on Macross.
I'm beginning to think of some wacky after work drink party that might've decided the staff.
>>15221905
Technically Freyja is older as she already lived half of a Windermerian's life span. Also according to someone else, she is more mature than Mirage (Source: https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1556226&show=200#msg48128829).
>>15221905
Delta was only good for doujin material and we barely got any of that
>>15225247
>Lots of plotlines were never resolved probably because Kawamori didn't even imagine how to resolve them when he started them.
How do you not know how you're not going to conclude THE WAR ITSELF
Seriously, the war does not even end. They just leave and are like "we'll be back another day". It felt like the only plotline to really get resolved was the Mikumo shit and the love triangle
Goddamn, I wish I didn't fall for the first half of the show as hard as I did because this fucking hurts now
Would it actually not be too crazy to say that the shit you could find on Fanfiction.net would have been better than Delta?
Did Delta kill Macross?
Another good mecha show with a shitty second "season". Heinz is in for a lot of shit for trying peace negotiations this late, and thinking about it Keith was a was a waste of space. The virus case was never solved. Hayate's abilities were disappointing and Arad was useless.
>>15228523
You're talking about the one where the windfags get btfo right?
>>15222154
My brother of the dark complexion. I'd put Makina over Reina though.
>>15228580
And I'd put Reina over Mikumo, you turbopleb.
>>15228535
No
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2017-01-29/macross-gets-new-tv-anime-in-2018-35th-anniversary-project/.111595
I couldn't even finish it. I just got tired of how dragged out it was. Felt like the same shit was happening every episode.
>>15228560
Heinz and co. getting off scot free for their bullshit pissed me off to no end. Fuck, the entirety to the windshits pissed me off 'Hey look at the racist assholes who literally enslave people with mind control, but they're really a bunch of swell guys fighting for FREEDUM!' Not even Zeon was that bad. Any end for them that doesn't involve the NUNS sending a fleet of Ghosts to dimension bomb their shithole planet back to the stone age is too good for them, I say.
>Keith was a was a waste of space
I don't even know what the hell was going with Keith. In the first half he was the hardliner with his 'I won't stop until all of NUNS pays' then he did a complete 180 and suddenly only cared about Windmere.
>You're talking about the one where the windfags get btfo right?
Link please, it can't be worst than the actual ending we got.
>>15221905
Too many plot lines to juggle, none of which were very interesting compared to the exposition. Half the cast doesn't get any attention. The biggest failure was the lack of actual fight scenes.
I miss broest of bros
>>15228951
I think you'll like it.
Look " How Roid's Plan Could Have backfired Horribly ".
>>15228968
And the lack of Delta squad didn't make one single name enemy kill for the entire series.
>>15229579
Neither did Hikaru, Basara or Alto.
I think mistake was giving them names in the first place. Nameless enemies work much better in Macross.
>>15222043
This doujin was AMAZING. (Not to mention it was drawn by the same artist of Highschool of the Dead) I officially accept this story as the only canon ending to Delta.
>>15229623
Alto does get a named killed Grace at the end
Basara didn't kill anyway but on the other hand he sent Sivil to heaven at least 3 or 4 times so that sort of counts.
>>15228614
>>15228580
Just let them switch positions.
>>15229623
>>15229623
Not exactly true.
>>15229634
It was something alright.
>>15229689
Indeed it was.
>>15227108
I can maybe buy the argument Freyja was the more mature character if not for the fact that when she came face to face with the idea her singing might be hurting Hayate she refused to face it. I'm not saying it's an easy thing to do, but she had a very childish reaction to that dilemma; which was basically to shut it out and refuse to deal with it. Even when people pointed out that Hayate was in about as safe a condition as he could be placed to find out the answer once and for all. She refused long enough they put her back in the field and Mikumo had to shock her in to action because she was just half assing things and basically miming despite the dangers that posed to her other allies to save having to find out.
It doesn't help that Hayate himself didn't really want to face it either mind. And that his solution was "I'll never let it happen again". Which somehow worked. And really makes all those other people who were "letting" it happen to them look like saps for allowing it to happen if you can just ignore it by will power. I can't even fathom why it was introduced as a plot element for him to react negatively to Freyja's singing if she's just going to ignore it till it goes away and he makes it go away through willpower without either of them (or anyone else) ever really changing or doing anything new because of it.
>>15221975 Having more episodes wouldn't make much of a difference. There are anime titles that can work a plot in 26 (or less) episodes and effectively managed to tell a story. One of the main problems of the story and Delta in general is the execution.
Minor edit to last sentence: One of the main problems of *Delta's story and Delta in general is the execution.
>>15229634
The guy can draw cool robots too.
>>15230557
And do some story with his porn.
>>15232672
I mean, Hayate, you smug ass.
>>15232676
Mirage should have said that a long time ago. Well, maybe without the 'virgin with inverted nipples' part.
>>15221905
I dropped it some time before the end of the first half which I found painfully mediocre, somehow it managed to got much worse judging by general consensus.
>>15227189
3 YEARS OLD
>>15232954
They grow up so fast.
>>15232693
Mirage wasn't allowed to exist.
>>15230112
>his solution was "I'll never let it happen again"
This is honestly consistent with how much of a crappy character Hayate was established to be in early episodes.
>>15232956http://imgur.com/a/uGGtq
>>15232971
How is it consistent with early episodes out of interest? The thing it most jives with for me is Hayate declaring that he'll fly Messer's load rather than taking new people in to Delta. Which was also a really stupid thing, but nothing in the early episodes really mirrors it to me. I think Hayate is actually really well set up for the first few episodes, between being a wanderer who likes to dance, not knowing anything about his father, having a bit of a chip on his shoulder and so on.
>>15233056
It's consistent with how much of a shallow, cliche lines babbling tool uninspired writers made him out to be. The writers had no fucking idea what to do with him beyond "male pilot". Actually all of Delta characters were written like shit but it's painfully blatant for the main ones.
>>15228523
I've no doubt that whatever garbage found its way on Fanfiction.net got more passion put into it than Delta did.
>>15233073
Freyja a best though
>>15233518
>moe down your throat every day until you like it
I wish they didn't try so hard about it.
>>15233073
I liked Mikumo when they started to give her an inkling of a personality. Too bad that was only like 2 or 3 episodes before the end.
>>15221905
Kawamori and co tried to innovate and fucked the whole franchise down. Stupid fucks now its all dead.
>>15222043
If only the sole male wasn't Hayate.
>>15234248
Stop being retarded. If another show is coming soon, the franchise is far from dead.
DIIIIAMOND CAR-RING
YOOOINDERU
>>15232997
That was delicious.
>>15221905
I just came back from Labi in Ikebukuro, and does anyone know why the 1/72 Sigfrieds are cheaper than the Messiahs?
>they tried to copy the surfing scene from the Frontier movie
well, you tried
>>15238005
Not discounting the possibility I simply forgot it, but I didn't finish the show so when did they try out of interest?
>>15237215
Poor sales maybe? I can't imagine why though, the Siegfried's are surprisingly great kits and they're far better than the Messiahs.
>>15227108
>tfw you realized in Human years Freyja is the equivalent to a late 30s-40s woman trying to relive her youth.
>>15239114
If only they made a joke about that in the anime instead of making it such a major tragedy. They also missed out on jokes about Freyja's superhuman strength and speed.
>>15238005
That never even happened. What the fuck are you talking about
I wonder why they didn't use the same CG as Gundam Unicorn. Frontier has aged and Delta won't last long either. Unicorn still looks amazing.
>>15240416
Unicorn had more budget, per episode, than Frontier had for 12. There is a reason why it took literally years for Unicorn to finish.
You can't judge OVAs and series on the same metric in terms of production quality.
>>15239742
The surfing scene happens in the second Frontier movie in the final battle with the Macross Quarter surfing through the clouds.
>>15241102
I don't remember any surfing from Delta
The discs are too good. Future Macross should ditch the triangle and war parts, they are retarded and make the franchise stale. Delta would have been better if it followed the original concept of flying competitions with idol-powered idols.
>>15242033
>competitions with idol-powered idols
flying in transformable idols and shooting barrages of idols at each other.
>>15242014
...
The discussion ends here.
>>15244136
>...
>The discussion ends here.
Get out.
Actually hold on. Are you talking about this 3 seconds long scene? I don't see any surfing board or any surfing at all, retard. Macross just emerges from water and evades shots. It's more of ice skating and it's almost the same move Hayate pulled in the first episode. Probably yet another reference to Immelman dance.
Now you can proceed to get out.
>>15221905
Delta was good
>>15246533
No scenes
>>15221905
Best macross
