How come we never talk about The Origin's designs? Are people already tired of Katoki?
Because CGI. Who gives a crap about them.
They're just zaku/gm/guncannon variants
Nothing else to say
Bugu (The Origin) just makes me giggle whenever I see it on the shelf because I keep thinking of Bugu (G-Saviour).

this
I understand they're prototypes, but the models are boring as fuck. Posable and detailed which is nice, but they look way too futuristic compared to other MS. It's like AoZ designs.
Also no normal green zaku 2 yet, which is fucking annoying. I'd like to see zakutanks or origin mobile pods/prototype balls, and weird shit like the agg
>>15218248
Katoki did the designs for the Origin? Then why are they all bland and blocky and over panel lined shit?
>>15218248
Most Origin threads are arguments between "it's not even canon" vs "now you don't need to watch the 1979 Gundam" or just people making fun of how it's basically Casval's version of "WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU JUST SAY ABOUT ME YOU LITTLE BITCH I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW I GRADUATED TOP OF MY CLASS IN ....."
The few discussions of the MS themselves are "but WHY would you even change the established canon like that?"
>>15218292
>Then why are they all bland and blocky and over panel lined shit?
Are you being ironic or something? Because that describes Katoki to a T.
>>15218322
Katoki was great in his heyday, but ever since he became Bandai's errand boy his designs all got samey and stale. And then everyone started copying his style for UC Gundam (i.e. Thunderbolt and AoZ).
He's like the Hans Zimmer of mecha design.
>>15218248
>Katoki
All of the designs from The Origin are by Okawara, then cleaned up by Katoki.
I actually like the Bugu pretty well, both visually and in concept. It's like the OYW version of the Tallgeese. The main thing I dislike about it is the name -- the Bugu was the name of the grunt unit in G-Savior.
>>15218342
>All of the designs from The Origin are by Okawara, then cleaned up by Katoki.
I think it's a little more than just "cleaning up"
>>15218311
I personally don't like the additions to the RX-78-2. I've always felt that the Gundam was a powerhouse because of its beam sabers and beam rifle, and it really didn't need anything else. Sure there was the gundam hammer and the mega bazooka, but those replaced either the beam saber or the beam rifle instead of just jamming more shit on for no reason.
Basically the Gundam was iconic because of its simple armaments, allowing everything else to build off that.
>>15218248
Tired of Char's Wild Adventures, and watching Feddies job like it was Torrington.
>>15218333
How do you go from designing something like Victory to all the cluttered shit he does now?
So what exactly has Origin changed,? I haven't been paying too much attention to it.
>>15218470
>How do you go from designing something like Victory to all the cluttered shit he does now?
He wouldn't be doing it if people were not buying Ver Ka kits.
Blame Gunpla buyers, not Katoki.
>>15218248
The Bugu look like generic shit compared to the manga and original versions of the MS-04. They shrunk the centurion head crest down into something more like the gelgoog's tiny head fin so that they could add a generic commander antenna. They also added a bunch of extra rails to the shoulders for some baffling reason.
>>15218347
When he said "By Okawara", he meant the original Origin manga re-designs, not the original gundam TV series.
>>15218333
I found out a few days ago that he designed the motherfucking Xamel.
God, how do you go from this to Full Armor Unicorn and Neo Zeong?
>>15218470
Bruh, he's been designing nasty, cluttered shit from the very beginning. It's only because Bandai kept a tight leash on him in the early to mid 90s that he was able to create any aesthetically pleasing stuff.
>>15218551
>Ex-S
>nasty, cluttered shit
All Millenials need to be put on a huge barge and left in the middle of the ocean.

The concepts look even-less flattering.

The giant kneecaps always look like they're gonna get caught on something or cut off by the suit swinging its own beam saber.

An apt simile.
>>15218627
To be fair that was designed by Mita Akitaka.
>>15218333

Interstellar was great though.

>Here are these things I don't like, my opinion is fact
k, kiddo
Gundam Sentinel merchandise being sold 30 years after it came out is a pretty clear sign a lot of people like the design and don't share you opinion.
Deal with it.

Yup. It's also pretty indicative that a good chunk of Gundam fans were tasteless idiots who had a preference to garish nonsense well before Wing EW and SEED came in with their fluttery winged Gundams lol.
>>15219206
Some people like giant clusterfuck designs. Why do you think Bayformers still sell?
But people liking them doesn't make them any less of clusterfucks.
Hell, I love Ex-S, but it's fucking name is literally "Excess", I don't know how anyone could deny that it's a clusterfuck, not even Katoki.
>>15218248
Nothing new or interesting.
>>15218248
Even Katoki is tired of Katoki.
>>15219235
That also explains why the craptastic IBO kits do so well.
>>15219235
Or maybe it's indicative that you don't like something and are a BUTTHURT BITCH that other people like it. Grow up, you quaking toad.
>>15219239
>I don't know how anyone could deny that it's a clusterfuck, not even Katoki.
Here's an idea, shitforbrains, please define the word "clusterfuck."
ITT: a bunch of nobodies who know nothing saying nothing worthwhile about anything
Origin is the show that got me into Gundam and gunpla. The kits are just the right mixture of simplicity and detail, from afar they look as plain as the original anime, but up close you see all those panel lines just accentuate the quality of the kit without adding complexity and fragility to the construction of the kit.
Zakus, Goufs, and Doms are my favorite suits, so I like that I can have the entire development of these suits on display. I've even gone as far as to buy the p-bandai prototype gouf for completion's sake.
>>15218288
I eagerly await an Origin version of the normal green Zaku II. I'm sure that'll come around the next round of Origin TV episodes when the story shifts from Char to Amuro and the RX-78-2 blowing up Zaku II baddies.
>>15218598
>You were saying?
Posting that image just exemplifies how Gundam completely abandoned what little of "real robot" it ever had. I'm sure it can compete with the Mazinger Z or Jeeg.
>>15223561
So bulky means super robot now?
>>15223561
Gundam was never about realism when it came to its designs.
>>15219194
Yes, because Hans Zimmer is still skilled, and occasionally brings out something great. Most of his stuff lately is samey shit, though.
>>15224179
Yeah, he ought to never touch a superhero movie again.
>>15226495
I wish Hollywood in general would take that stance. At least for a couple years.
The problem is people incorrectly believe that Origin is apart of the main Movies Timeline, so they're going to make complaints similar to the prequels of Stars Wars of things looking 'to advanced'.
It's like people didn't bother to read Origin and how the Origin Zaku would more than likely run circles around the MSG movie version.
>>15231465
>>15224179
Forgot my trip.
And unrelated,I should listen to Han Zimmer's later works. Haven't really given much thought past Crimson Tide, The Rock and Black Hawk Down.Allegedly he's burn a lot of bridges in the industry and he's had to hired a bodyguard.

they move at about the same speed, even considering older animation.
>>15218288
>osable and detailed which is nice, but they look way too futuristic compared to other MS. It's like AoZ designs.
They literally look like zakus and lesser zakus.
