It's a pretty mindless clusterfuck with over-the-top fanservice.

Spooked some normies with it once, they barely got through the 2nd episode, it was hilarious.

It's a horrible mess, but it's an entertaining mess.

I've gotta admit, I really do like the look of those things. They're almost like a fantasy take on orbital frames that just so happen to transform as well. If this was the designer's debut, I really hope to see more from him in the future.

Any mecha fan worth his salt (ie anyone on /m/) would jump all over Cross Ange. The only downside is it is a 25 or 26 episode show instead of a 50 or 75 episode show. Cross Ange is no more lewd and/or crazy than the hundreds of mecha anime we've come to love and cherish from the 70s and 80s and a bit of the 90s.

Modern fandom is scared of its own shadow so it doesn't suprise me they "can't get" it. Maybe we need a little bit of Toshio Maeda indoctrination ?
