Zhuge Liang carried out five campaigns against Wei's starting from 228, all of which ended in disaster and left Shu bankrupt. The first campaign, against Hao Zhao at Chencang, ended with Zhuge Liang retreated due to lack of supplies after Hao Zhao's 1000 troops were able to handily fend off Zhuge Liang's tens of thousands. In 234, Zhuge Liang's attempt at occupying Beiyuan was thwarted and he was forced to settle into the Wuzhang plains. A month later, Shu and Wu engaged in another campaign against Wei. Sima Yi was left to fend off Zhuge Liang (They had been fighting since 231 in the West) , while the rest of Wei's forces focused on Sun Quan, who they considered a threat at the time. Sima Yi's strategy was to wait for Zhuge Liang to retreat from lack of supplies, which was a proven problem for Zhuge Liang, or for him to simply die.
Sima Yi's plan was a success and Zhuge Liang passed away in late 234. Zhuge Liang's final (albeit posthumous) act was the assassination of decorated Shu officer Wei Yan and Wei Yan's family, which he had ordered to be done after his death.

After being named “General of the Left” by Cao Cao and sent out to intercept Yuan Shu (who died before the battle began), Liu Bei utilized the soldiers given to him by Cao Cao to betray Cao Cao and capture Xu province. He succeeded in capturing Xu Province, but was soon thwarted by Cao Cao in Pei, forcing Liu Bei to flee (marking the third time he had foresaken his family in favor of self-preservation. He would later do this a fourth time).
Liu Bei would later find himself under the service of Yuan Shao; however, after being ambushed by Cao Cao, Liu Bei fled to Runan. Liu Bei and Zhang Fei would join former Yellow Turban Liu Pi's group of bandits and proceeded to plunder Runan, raiding from villages for money and supplies. Guan Yu would defect from Wei at this time and joined Liu Bei and Zhang Fei at this time.
In the near future, Fa Zheng was able to convince Liu Zhang to take in Liu Bei. In truth, this was a ploy to gain Yi Province, and Liu Bei shortly betrayed Liu Zhang and took Yi Province for himself, betraying the alliance Shu held with Wu in the process.

Zhang Fei spent much of his military career alongside Liu Bei. He hadn't served much of a notable military role, however. All he had to his name was his surrender to Yuan Shao and then his surrender to Lu Bu. His first real noteworthy “achievements” was when he murdered Cao Bao, and when he and Liu Bei had joined Liu Pi's bandit ensemble. During a raid, Zhang Fei had found a 13 year old girl and decided to kidnap her and force her into marriage and bore him four children. It would later turn out that the girl was none other than Xiahou Yuan's granddaughter.
He would later go on to defeat Zhang He and even win various minor victories. In 221, Zhang Fei was named the General of Chariots and Cavalry. Zhang Fei was, however, notorious for beating and abusing his soldiers. This came to an apex in 221, when two of his officers that he had beaten decapitated him in his sleep, sending his head to Liu Bei.

It feels that way because there hasn't been another huge breakout mecha hit in years . Gargantia getting in made more sense than Cross Ange since the former performed well and was decently popular while Cross Ange did worse than all the shows it aired alongside it. What's worse is that we know the next title is going to have Macross Delta and IBO in it and they'll become stables we won't be able to get rid of for a long time.

The problem isn't necessarily the cast themselves. The problem I feel is that they just simply won't take any risks anymore.
Back then we had all sort of crazy shit like the Dancougar villain piloting the Valsion Kai, the Devil Gundam absorbing Axis, even the creations of Mazinkaiser and Shin Getter were the product of SRW back when they just went nuts with what they envisioned and it was awesome.
Nowadays they're just playing it safe with most series just sticking with their own stuff and never really exploiting the crossover possibilities.

I have no doubt that if Z2 was made during F era, they would have gone all the way with the idea that the Zero System and the Twin Drive were meant to have been made for o e Gundam and made a new unit that has both systems in that either Heero or Setsuna could pilot.

Well, the Yamato world is like the UC world, but everything is on fire because of alien invasion, and humanity is screwed. Also, the story section on the website is fairly clear that Yamato is the UC future, but we don't know where CA's world lies.

Which is why we think Yamato Future is the Dragon world, because of the destruction, and Embryo came from the UC past before he made the CA world. And because the current UC world isn't quite destroyed enough, or has enough dragons.
