I'm guessing they wanted to make Cao Pi's basis related but Zeta/ZZ were already taken by Shu's feddiefagging and the GP line was taken by the Sun family so they settled for Double X > X, I guess.

They could've gone for Wing Zero > Wing or vice versa too, I suppose. X does have the villainous Gundams in Ashtaron and Virsago to serve as generals as a bonus though.
