What happens is not even particularly interesting. Events are all disconnected: Tekkadan aims to become King, but Orga has not established any specific plan. McGillis too, until the fight with the Mobile Armor did not know what to do. The space mafia faggot acts disconnected from the rest of the plot and just wants to get rid of a rival. Lok faggot acts only for revenge, brought on by his own stupidity. Gaelio, seems to be the only character with a clear and shared goal. Counter McGillis, maintain the status quo and freeing his family from his psychopathic "brother". Revenge, of course, but at least his role is central to the story.

Tekkadan seem secondary characters who are constantly dragged into events that do not even concern them. In fact Orga has not started a war or at least playing offensive. Someone even died because Orga has not taken a position with true actions limiting himself only in words.

The awakening of mobile armor was the best moment of the show. I was intrigued by the idea that the mobile armors were the real enemies of IBO and a new Calamity war was near.

The way it played out, all of those former events in the anime were connected. Every time one of Rustal's lackeys screwed up, it gave McGillis more evidence/data to support his coup and rally his allies.


Gaelio, does not have a clear and shared goal. If anything, his actions and motivations are all a response to whatever McGillis does.

McGillis is active (puppetmaster), Gaelio/Ein/Carta were passive puppets in his scheme. This dynamic really hasn't changed a whole lot from S1 to S2, because once again McGillis was the catalyst for Gaelio to remove his mask.

I'm also not sure whether the writers realized the hypocrisy of Gaelio claiming to be a champion of honor and friendship to McGillis, while exploiting Ein in almost the same manner that he did.

I think the real thing the show has been focusing on is the rise and fall of Tekkadan. Last season we followed them as they became heroes within the show's universe. This season started with the unintended consequences of their actions, them suffering after being over their head politically, and them deepening their relationship with McGillis. We've also seen Mika act pleased he doesn't have to focus on bettering himself anymore, Akihiro giving up being a "decent" man and Takaki leaving when he realized how fucked up things were getting.

Season 2 is their fall, capped off with Gali-Gali returning as Vidar. Vidar is a heroic figure in Norse mythology and serves as a counter to the demon-themed Gundams under McGillis, as well as the Fareed family Fenrir crest.

Those events made Tekkadan heroes in the eyes of many when Tekkadan weren't motivated by any noble causes. They weren't there to reform Gjallarhorn, it was a combination of fulfilling the job they were given and a desire for revenge after Biscuit's death.

Hell, they're not with McGillis's forces out of the same desire to reform Gjallarhorn as the rest of them. They're there because McGillis promised to make them the Kings of Mars if he were to take over, an act of corruption when his entire faction is supposed to be about purging the corruption of the organization.

Tekkadan doesn't really have any plans for the future, just get to some abstract destination where they can have the good life as quick as possible. I'm neutral on Takaki. On the one hand, I loved that there was a member who just said "this is getting fucked up. I'm out," especially after he performed an execution like Mikazuki would. It was that moment where the doubt in Tekkadan was firmly planted.

On the other hand, I hate that he's the only one to have any sort of misgivings considering the group's current path. I was wondering if it might be that the series ends with Tekkadan still alive, but a shadow of itself. Orga becomes a tyrant. Mika loses his humanity in the Gundam. Akihiro and the others become jaded and think nothing of doing the things that they would have faulted Gjallarhorn for doing a year before.

They've already kind of broken with Kudelia. I could see the ending being "poetry" with Kudelia having a new group of vanguards and it's Tekkadan coming to seize her.

Biscuit's death was predicted by several posters but was scoffed at due to the farcical nature of theming it with an actual holiday in Japan, Gaelio wearing a mask and coming back from the grave was predicted but laughed at as an impossibility, Mikazuki getting the Hashmal's tail and becoming disabled was predicted and /m/ thought it was all bullshit.

Right now there are people that believe McGillis won't betray Tekkadan because of some affection he has for them, disregarding he is a man who will kill loyal friends to achieve his goals. They want to see the best in him for Tekkadan's sake.

Mika has three plugs. He is undoubtedly the strongest pilot in the organization. Guts has two plugs. Everyone agrees he's the second best pilot.

Shino, Ride, Chad and the like only have one plug. They're all middle of the pack pilots. Shino wins out because he was next in line to get a mobile suit in the first season, so he has more experience than the others.

Now look at Ein, who was a very mediocre pilot, barely on Shino's level, up until he got the surgery that went above and beyond Mika's triple plugs. Suddenly he was kicking top pilots around effortlessly up until Mika realized the virtue of superior japanese folded steel.

Barring actual talented pilots like McGilles and the Turbines, there's a direct correlation between the degree of AV surgery you receive and piloting skills. Can you blame Gaelio for using AV Type E to try and level the field?

You haven't watched enough IBO then. Lafter had Mika pinned down in ep 7 mostly thanks to her use of rope in that fight. It makes a huge difference.
As for the AV, I guess this isn't a popular piece of trivia around here, but the AV system salvaged from the Brewers suit they put in the old ryuseigo had such a poor connection and data transfer that it can barely count as one. Ogawa P talked about this ages ago.

Color me skeptical. For one, why would Tekkadan link up one of their primary fighters to a defective system when they have Nadi and the other mechanics to fix it? And the Brewers kids pretty much lose any value as human debris if it 'barely' counts as AV. I'll have to go back and check the episodes, I guess. Gonna need a source on that Ogawa quote though.
