It sucks that they dropped the Guncannon so hard in favour of exclusively all-purpose MS. All of the revivals it gets (0080, Origin, the transforming tank MS from F91 and Unicorn if those count) are only so the new Zeon suits have something to beat up on too. Surely fire support should have some role in MS combat.

(The Gundam Belphegor tat was designed by Ishigaki and is correctly identified as such on MAHQ).

into Google. Or just look at the Aquarius' lineart -- that's clearly Fujita, clearly not Ishigaki.

And I certainly wouldn't mind being proven wrong, I just can't help but feel skeptical since even knowing how incredibly diverse he is, it still feels like a drastic departure from what I know of him.

Precisely. The design is solid but unremarkable (which is a very good choice for a grunt unit) yet is distinctly accented by the pot belly, cute clam of a face, and deft color scheme. Fucking fantastic design.

Agreed, but it is fundamentally odd that the Zaku II has all those external hoses, while the Zaku I doesn't. Logically, you'd expect it to be the other way around. I mean, I understand the reasoning in-universe, and I understand the aesthetic context... It's just that, from a functional perspective, the external hoses seem more like an "issue to be resolved," and a lack of external hoses to represent the refinement/improvement of the design.

To be fair they're the last, final holdouts for a movement whose remnants died ages ago. They launched a giant rock from Mars at the Earth and later tried to invade the planet, and both times they got stomped. Aside from updating the standard Zeon mobile suits to pre-F91 era tech, they're about as notable as the Zeon holdouts that attacked Judau in ZZ in the desert.

Everything and everyone was moving on to newer and better things, and Mars Zeon just wasn't.

No, they didn't always had that beam rifle. They're not even the same weapon, other than the barrels having the MG42-style aesthetic. You're thinking of the Gelgoog Jager's beam machine gun from 0080. The one he's talking about is the Zaku Sniper's beam sniper rifle, which was invented by Katoki in 2006.

Damn, this is a cool variant of the Gyan, or suit inspired by it or whatever. The + -shaped eye tracks outlined in gold fit really well with a 'royal guard' look, and the crest makes the "helmet" look less spindly and goofy. I kinda miss the characteristic beam sword the Gyan had, but the lance-beam-rifle is a neat gimmick, and the emblem makes the shield stand out more.

And the fact that I'm Canadian has nothing to do with why I like it.
