Difficult to say. I would probably give a 50% chance. Personally I think that his comeback is not necessary.

In 2199, he is too different from his original version, as is also the current Gamilias situation. And that's takes away part of the purpose of his revenge against the Yamato crew. If he is still alive, he is not alone anymore in the sense that he is the last of his species, but more in the sense that he is an outcast with nowhere to go.

As a note, his last battle against the Yamato in 2199 is a mix between both his showdowns in the Farewell movie and the original series. So, any form of, yet another, final duel between the Yamato crew and Dessler would be very diferent from what we have already seen.

Picked up Ensign Yamamoto pretty inexpensive a few months back (along with the one Okida figure). Generally very pleased with both, the leather jacket over the shoulder does it for me.

The majority of the human race didn't die, they hid underground. They did rebuild far faster than should be reasonable, and suffered far less loss of life than you would expect from coming a few days from extinction, though.

It isn't so much that the villains get stronger, as it is that new ones show up at all. They aren't more dangerous, but they are an enemy army just as capable of beating humanity as the Gamilas were.

It seems to exist between eps 24 and 25.
During the movie, Yuki is alive, but the space-elf who loved Desslar doesn't appear. Yuki remains dead in the series from the point where the space-elf dies until they're looking at Earth, and the space-elf gets picked up just after the start of ep 25, so this is the only viable point.

This still is something of a plot-hole, mind you, since apparently the Yamato crew never bothered to tell that space elf 'hey, your kind actually aren't extinct', even though the movie took place prior to picking up said space elf.

...Alternately, it took place after picking up the space-elf, and she just conveniently wasn't featured at all in the movie about her own extinct people, despite having psychic powers that would have likely been very useful if she indeed was on the ship.

Given that it depicts the first contact between humanity and Gatlantis, that's a given. Some of the characters introduced in the movie will probably show up in 2202 as well.

slightly worse than the first season. It still follows the basic problem-of-the-week format of the first season with larger overarching goals, which might feel a bit stale after a full season of it.

The psychic space chick in this one is just a dumb character that the show spends too long on, and arguably the villains' motivations aren't as interesting as the Gamilas'. Despite that, it's still watchable if you liked the first season.

It also has multiple episodes in the second half dedicated to the fleet actions between the Comet Empire and the Earth forces, which is probably the season's highlight.

I preferred it to the original. There's more human to human interaction and conflict in the begginning before they get to space. And then fleet battles towards the ending.

The middle of the show flows fairly similarly to the original, but I think they handled the introduction of new characters better, without waiting until they get focus episodes before introducing elements of their character.

The one big problem is that it heavily contradicts the world building and logic of the original series - suddenly, Earth-like planets seem fairly common and the whole reveal about Gamilas and Earth people being unable to coexist in the same atmosphere is dropped. Those were the main reasons for the conflict in the original Yamato, but season 2 completely throws all that away in order to feature alien enemies more easily.

Here it is. As far as it goes there was only three characters that received that treatment, and one of them is debatable; Akira Yamamoto, that was a male pilot with same name in the original series, Melda, as she being captured resemble what happened to a unnamed gamilia pilot that appears in one episode in the original, and Kaoru Niimi in which some few characteristics resemble Hyota Arakome, "Rookie", a comical character from the second series.

All the other female characters are original characters, and the elf girls are based in characters from a short Yamato manga story that Leiji made back in the day to help promote the series.

The first movie is just a compilation of some of the episodes of the original series. The second movie, Farewell, came before the second series, and even if they share the same primary plot and some animations sequences, they differ greatly from eachother in many aspects.

The movie have a pretty good animation for a anime movie made in the late 70's. For obvious reasons the animation of the series is not as good, but is pretty decent and as far I can remember it maintain a consistent standard, again, for something made in the 70's.

Recently it's been a thing for anime to include English subtitles if they're meant for overseas consumption. Some of the latest anime that are available for streaming from places like crunchyroll or animelab will be available on the same day of broadcast, usually within hours of airing in Japan and will also actually have official English subtitles. Disc releases may also include official English subtitles.

Since they're using the "Star Blazers" name, Bandai does intend to appeal to western/foreign fans who were introduced to SBY via the 80s American adaptation of SBY, but it's also kind of weird that they won't be including English subtitles. Also, the BD release of 2199 had english subtitles, although the DVDs didn't. It's just fair warning to the English speaking fans who might be importing the DVDs or BDs and expecting English subtitles.

I doubt anybody is gonna fansub this thing. Might as well try to watch it on Amazon Video Japan.
