And what if you need to go faster than you can go in battroid, but not as fast as fighter mode?

The best use of a VF's complete maneuverability in a aerial dogfight requires you to at least go halfway into gerwalk to point your engines in other directions other than backwards so you can do thrust vectoring that you can never do by staying in fighter mode.

Battroid is useless outside of melee/ground combat, precision shooting, navigating relatively tight spaces like zentradi ships, and acting as a mobile turret.
Fighter mode requires the partial use of Gerwalk to achieve the VF's full maneuverability and maintain the speed.
