1. Heavy Object
2. Argenvollen
3. Captain Earth
Was Heavy Object actually good?
>>15194407
It was stupid fun. It's basically 'Cheesy 80's Buddy Cop movie, but with Mecha!'
>>15194380
HO wasn't good mecha-wise, imo, but had some fun moments.
Argevollen was just plain boring as fuck.
I haven't watched CE, so don't know about that.
>>15194407
the sexy captain was nice and it had some moments but was honestly kind of bad and had a lot of really stupid shit.
>I need to make sure this girl doesn't get strangled but AH I MIGHT ACCIDENTALLY TOUCH HER BOOB WHAT DO I DO!
>>15194424
>I haven't watched CE, so don't know about that.
You didn't miss much.
Almost all the threads pretty much devolve into "well, those underage girls are hot" because the show has absolutely nothing else going for it.
>>15194430
It's a lot like Star Driver. Boring as hell but sure was pretty
>>15194407
Lots of exposition, little budget, hot girls and best bros.
>>15194407
It was a two guys armed with a rifle, a backpack full of explosives and a maintenance manual blowing up the undefeatable superweapon of the week kind of show.
>>15194380
Argevollen had combined arms, an actual military setting with a proper unit who all got focus rather than just the pilots, and a good plot with a slow but steady pace and good action.
It's also proof that people have no patience and don't actually want a military mecha show because when one comes along it's declared slow and boring.
I enjoyed all three of those to one degree or another.
>>15194380
>Captain Earth
You must be joking.
>>15194447
I want to give this one a chance, but those character designs and that one white mecha are just so ugly that it turns me off instantly... =/
>>15194380
If anything I'm surprised by how kind people are to Heavy Object, it's so fucking bad.
Argevollen stands about right as it is in terms of appreciation, I liked it but it was nothing exceptional.
Captain Earth is total shit. The only thing it had going for it was the hand drawn mech animation, the story was one of the worst I've seen in a long time. Even GBFT had better storytelling.
>>15194407
It's written by the guy who did Index, and like that it has painful moralfagging centre stage most of the time. When it's not doing that, it's pandering with generic fanservice.
It's an interesting idea, but it's so badly executed. Maybe a better director and scriptwriter could have saved it.
>>15194443
The problem is that none of their plans really came off as terribly impressive to the point where the Super weapons where about as intimidating as a defanged kitten.
I love the show in theory, the idea is great and the characters are ..decent enough but the sabotage element is just boring. The writer didn't really know how to come up with good plans so he just had the badguys be stupid
>>15194447
>it's declared slow and boring.
I declared it chiche ridden and predictable as fuck. At first they showed all the military stuff and I was like "Yes, this is what I've been waiting for!" But it quickly devolved, because there's a SPECIAL mecha, and a SPECIAL pilot, and it's full of dumb service, and everything is done only because mecha nd pilot are so SPECIAL, and villains are comical. It's shit, not a military mecha show. I gave it 3-4 episodes, but just couldn't go on.
Also, yes, it's incredibly boring.
>>15194455
The Argevollen's not that bad in motion. It can sprint like a motherfucker.
As for the character designs, they're mediocre, nothing's going to change that.
>>15194467
Congratulations, you dropped it when the show picks up. Tokimune ditches his generic protagonist traits for the rest of the show, for one thing, and the Argevollen is declared an impractical pain in the ass to maintain.
For fuck's sake you dropped it before it even got into the first proper operation. You're also talking out of your ass because three episodes in they haven't even introduced any villains beyond random enemy soldiers.
>>15194380
I've seen 1 and 2 and they were both incredibly boring.
>>15194456
>moralfagging
Fuck off back to your containment board >>>/v/
>>15194473
Huh. I might give it another chance then, thanks.
>>15194479
I'd recommend it. If you still don't like it after that then I'll concede, but the first three episodes are much, much weaker than the rest of the show.
The Argevollen's design is the most I've ever revised my opinion on a mecha. It was ugly as fuck on paper but it's a pretty dynamic design in motion.. Plus the other designs in the show are pretty good.
>>15194473
It was that way for the first few episodes and degraded.
A large portion of the show was about a special robot and its system, bringing up mechanics hating it is hardly relevant. They stated in exposition it was why they were in a stalemate.
It also relied heavily on the more experienced army being much less competent.
>>15194492
First few episodes were my favorite.
>>15194503
>A large portion of the show was about a special robot and its system
A large part of the show how the "special" pilot and rebot screwed up in every episode to the point where I don't remember whether he won any real fight at all.
>It also relied heavily on the more experienced army being much less competent.
It had the usual asspulls, its weak point was telepathy magic out of nowhere
>>15194458
>the Super weapons where about as intimidating as a defanged kitten
It was ok, they should have shown more chaos among the civilians and base troops maybe. Except that flying thing the enemies were ok.
>>15194380
>Heavy Object
everything was crap except the characters. bros of the century.
>>15194380
Best underappreciated mecha?
Probably the mechs from AldNoah Zero. People dog piled on the show for it's terrible characters and story, but it had some pretty damn innovative mecha designs, and some solid science behind how they worked.
This is unrelated to the mecha, but the OST for that series was fantastic as well.
>>15194473
>The Argevollen's not that bad in motion. It can sprint like a motherfucker.
No. The designs were terrible, especially the Argevollen itself. The silhouette was bland, and the use of constant black and white contrast over the whole thing made it the design to busy and difficult to read. Especially while in motion.
AldNoah Zero had very complex designs as well, but the consistent use of colour made it very easy to read while in motion.
>>15194492
> hit the enemy full on with a stream of bullets
> barely notices them, isn't bothered by them in the least
I only watched the first episode, but things like this make me doubtful as to how military it actually is.
>>15194473
Argevollen was great, but there were people going to facebook/twitter and youtube slamming on the show for being shit.
Also it tanked hard in Japan... so we never got those plamos...
>>15194527
>things like this make me doubtful as to how military it actually is
You wouldn't believe how many footage we have from the Syrian war where people shoot with their Assault rifles at tanks and how many bullets in general are needed for a kill
>>15194531
I would, but I also wouldn't compare infantry failing to deny tanks to a mech with a proportionate weapon failing to dent a similar unit. That's more like a soldier failing to hurt another soldier despite hitting him a dozen or more times.
M3
>>15194522
I need to rewatch that movie.
>>15194536
>That's more like a soldier failing to hurt another soldier despite hitting him a dozen or more times.
I would compare it to a MBT bein operational after a hit from another MBT main cannon or a salvo of an 30mm autocannon, both completely realistic
>>15194549
Was terrible, yes.
>>15194563
Is it completely realistic that it is not only operational, but completely ignores the enemy salvo and that said salvo may as well not exist because it had so little effect and didn't even cause the unit to slow down or get pushed back?
>>15194573
The autocannon salvo? yes. The cannon? Depends on the cannon, ammo and where it hits
hit by rpg at motor block at 0:20, continues driving, no visible damage besides 5 sec of smoke
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=my75U3mP1s0
hit by rpg at 0:33, continues driving, no fire etc:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBHC3zacYxw
Sure these are RPGs, but we don't get MBT vs MBT combat nowadays
>>15194380
I liked HO
Currently watching CE and its alright
Will watch Arg after it
>>15194380
>1. Heavy Object
I thought Girls Und Panzers threads said that Tanks aren't mecha.
>2. Argenvollen
Agree with that one. Quite under the radar, and quite decent.
>3. Captain Earth
Underappreciated?
The show is flat out hated. A shame in my opinion. Despite killing some of the promise of the show with really bad pacing, it still had some great moments.
>>15194668
The part that tears me up about Captain Earth is that it would have been a great show with very, very minor tweaks. They just needed an editor to say 'Salty Dog has too much screen time, cut that down to a third of what they are getting now, and use the other 4 episodes to develop the actual villains of the show'.
Bam. Instant fucking classic.
>>15194380
That's two guys right, because modern anime is gay.
>>15194668
> it still had some great moments
That's all it had - a couple of great moments. Everything else, especially plot and tone, was all over the place.
>>15194754
They messed up her leg
Buddy Complex
>>15194447
I watch everything, I think even shows people depise were actually kinda fun.
But I dropped Argevollen aroung apisode 10 I think because it was really really boring.
Even I couldn't stand it.
HO was really fun to watch weekly, despite it's many writing flaws.
CE..... I don't even remember, it was a mess (but at least I managed to the end.)
>>15194380
Heavy Object was so fun. I don't even care the story went no where and the worldbuilding falls flat. Qwenthur and Hevia best bros in anime as far as I'm concerned.
>>15194524
>Solid science
>>15194524
> mecha designs, and some solid science
>>15194407
I'd describe ot as a silly show.
>>15194380
Kids, this is how trolling looks like.
>>15194549
There's like 15 of us who like it here
>>15194380
None of those are Bubuki Buranki.
>>15194473
>Congratulations, you dropped it when the show picks up.
When half the damn shows full episode length is boring, generic, uneventful, and had really terrible pacing it's pretty understandable that people dropped it and it makes criticism of the show very valid. Argevollen isn't terrible but it is very boring and leaves no impression or really does anything unique. I personally like the signature mecha but that's really all I liked, you yourself just sound like you are a /k/ommando who likes the show just because it gets a bit closer to military themes than your average modern show.
>>15194380
I started watching Heavy Object because I saw gifs of Froleytia on /m/ and thought, "This might be amusing for a couple of episodes."
But almost immediately, I cared more about best bros.
>>15194407
It was fun but it gets a bit repetitive. Especially in the dialogue where you'll hear the same few phrases frustratingly repeated over and over throughout the series. Still worth checking out I'd say.
>>15194743
If the show was twice it's length, or same length with no salty Dog, it could have worked. Yeah, pacing killed it. All the other pieces where in place. Likable characters, cool mecha designs, fapable pilot suits, they had plot devices in place that made for both small scale battles, and large scale battles, huge stakes, sadistic but sympathetic villains, politics, factions, etc.
It's a shame really.
>>15194380
Captain Earth
OP spelled Nobunaga The Fool and Aquarion Logos incorrectly
>all this CE hate
What the hell is wrong with you guys?
>>15194380
>Captain Earth
>Underappreciated
No, I think it gets the hate it deserves. I'm surprised anyone even remembers it.
>>15205926
NobunaGUN was better
Gargantia is mad underrated.
>2010s Mecha
>>15206497
this is why you have no friends, anon
Heavy Object and Captain Earth both had this undercurrent of positivity that was really refreshing. They both have flaws you could drive a truck through - CE especially has a number of things with great potential that it just does nothing with - but, because of that positivity, the problems didn't really bother me.
Also, Captain Earth's combination sequences are inarguably great.
>>15206216
It is. Crying shame the plans for a sequel got canned. Does anyone know if the manga they decided to release instead ever got translated?
>>15206534
>Also, Captain Earth's combination sequences are inarguably great.
It was slick as fuck but I couldn't help but wonder how much it costs in tax payer dollars to launch their robot every week.
>>15206719
>but wonder how much it costs in tax payer dollars to launch their robot every week.
This was always on my mind when i saw them launching into space
>>15206216
It really isn't. All it had going for it were tits and belly dancing
Captain Earth was borring as hell and very bland (also i didnt liked the characters at all), Heavy Object had things that barely are mecha i dont really know why we talk about that.
Argvollen was pretty meh.
Honestly 10's mechs are not very good beside Gundam stuff.
It's cool man, I hope no one watches shows I like.
>>15211962
Fuck yeah! Daimidalar is radical. Legit one of my favourite super robot shows
>>15194447
>>15194473
>Samonji goes pants on head retarded because muh dead waifu, fucks the lieutenant, and gets sent to the enemy force
Literally the only good thing that came out of the finale is the shady manager getting a headshot out of nowhere
>>15212629
>That is some abysmally shit taste.
No u
>>15212629
Then tell me was at least 7/10
I know Captain Earth wasn't perfect, but I really liked it. The pacing took a shit and SALTY DOG was annoying but, like most Bones shows, I'm going to remember it fondly despite its massive flaws. Please do not hate on magical girls and brown waifus.
>>15211962
I still remember the shitty website they made for this.
It was a hoot
Doamaiger D
>>15194407
>massive metal weapons made from a combination of modern technology and ancient techniques
>from eastern island country
Literally 10,000 times folded Nippon steel.
>>15195935
Oh yeah, that was pretty good. I've never seen a thread here about it, but that doesn't mean people don't like it.
Danball Senki, especially Wars.
>>15194447
I'm watching it right now and liking it, I don't see the problem, not enough people with weird hairs/moe? The first time the "ace" tries to use the not-gundam are pretty funl, and the mechs are cool, if a tad too big for my taste.
>>15206214RESPECT
>>15211962
>tfw no front tail
It wasn't very good, but it was fairly amusing.
On TV, right ?
1) Argevollen
2) Majestic Prince
3) Heroman
4) M3
5) Daimidaler
>>15217663
But people here like MJP
>>15218191
I hate it.
>>15218195
We hate you
>>15218306
Now this shit was straight awful.
>Hey I know we set up a series about intergalactic wore, ancient Japanese princesses and demons but let's spend 20 episodes on retarded school shenanigans with a truly dreadful class of characters
>>15218429
>we
Nice strawman.
>>15218306
This was plain bad. Mechas are shit, MC is shit, story is shit. It's wasn't even trainwreck-shit, it was just bad. The main girl wasn't even cute.

YEs, yEs, YES

You must be seriously mentally impaired if you actually liked Argevollen...
