Anyone else think Gelgoogs look really dumb?

Depends on the artist, mainly. Sometimes they look like pig-faced trash cans, sometimes they look elite lightning-warriors. It's all down to proportions and style.

honestly, most gundam mobile suits look a bit silly, but I appreciate real robots having some style aside from function, because military vehicles in real life also have aesthetics that don't serve a purpose

also, like stuff like the image you posted, were old designs are given tons of detail on kits or lineart

I like most Zeonic MS. On the Gelgoog, I like the general heavier features and I love the how the pauldrons come to an upward point. Also the oval shields are my favorite.

It's the weird "crest" on the back of the head. The Gelgoog would look a lot better without it. Of course then it would just be a more angular Zaku.

Also the pointed shoulders look goofy.

Izubuchi designs the best Gelgoogs, maybe I'm just contrarian like that but the Gelgoog line is my favorite Zeon series of MS.

Isn't Izubuchi the guy who complained about modern Gundam designs lacking ingenuity in an interview way back in the day? I find that hilariously ironic given how much his CCA/0080 designs are derived from Zeta.

I never got the hate honestly. They're my favorite Zeon grunt, everything that makes the Zakus good but with a more aggressive look all around, even the monoeye.

Because Yutaka Izubuchi likes WWII history and Nazi aesthetics, he even designed the panzer cops in the Kerberos Saga.

Also MG 42s just look really fucking cool, they have by far one of the most iconic and visually interesting shape of any gun.
