The romance sub plot was trash.
The mecha designs were okay.

If you were holding on for the relationship between the two in OP's picture, then definitely.
I could go on with more problems the show had, but one of the biggest was the MC.
They didn't know what to do with him. They wanted to make him an inexperienced rookie, a staunch military man, and MY SISTER IS DEAAAAD all at the same time and it just doesn't work.

Buddy Complex, Arge and M3 were all wonderful.

Buddy Complex yes. M3 too, but it was... strange. Not bad, but I think they could have handled it better. The final part repays the whole patience of the viewer, still getting there was a little 'tiring.

I find it funny that this show treated mecha in a way that made it seem more mundane.
We had a soldier pilot who was basically just doing his job and minimal drama (sans the sister subplot, but that was only a few episodes)

The whole show was interesting to experience for me, but I can't say that I'd watch it again.

It did some other interesting things like having the "main antagonists" be those at the tops of corporations and political ladders making profit from war.
And having the mecha act in a more grounded manner than most shows made it feel slightly more ""practical"".

I didn't get too far into it since this was among a handful of shows I dropped that season due to being busy, But I recall thinking Arge's design was pretty cool and some of the supporting cast seemed interesting.

Other than that I only really remember Tough Intention being pretty catchy.

Good show. No budget, but good action direction gave it some flair and the setting was neat.

I actually think they tried too hard to not make it generic and it ended up hurting the show. They really should have gone for a generic climatic battle ending, rather than the one they chose.

I was mostly thinking of the characters. At the start of the anime, the character were generic but I felt they had room to grow. But they never did and they just added one childhood friend who did nothing interesting.

I agree they tried to do something rather unique for the ending but then it was bog down by what I felt to be standard anime developement.
