Rick Dom's are my guilty pleasure. Any hover type mechs are so sexy. What are their swords made of though? I never got why they weren't like normal beam sabers.

Cost cutting measures I guess. Doms and the like were made during the OYW during Zeon's whole "lets make a fuck-ton of prototypes and see how that goes" phase, and to save cost on developing a beam melee weapon they went with their tried and true heat hawk technology.

They would probably melt eventually if you kept them on each other long enough, but if MSG is anything to go by, they can go blow for blow with each other.

They had a self-contained power source too, so theoretically Zakus could use them. I imagine it's just an issue of size and storage. Doms have larger hands than Zakus, the Heat Sword might not be appropriate for your average Zaku II to wield.

Doms also benefit from being able to quickly zip around on hover boots so all they have to do is hold out the sword and then skate into a guy. Whereas a zaku has to put in motion from the arms, torso, hips, and legs in order to get in a solid swing. At least when on the ground, anyway.

A tank that large would only work in a vast, flat desert, and it'd still be inferior to a bunch of smaller tanks or normal mobile suits.

Tanks was pretty fast you know, but shit at maneuvering like turn thanks to tracks needs to contradic their rolls for that.

Thats why US tank platoon's handbook always tell them to avoid jungles, mountain, crevices and urban's thight spot like a plague, and running individually is suicidal.
