It's just an even more perfecter EVA-01. The characteristic Eva features are all there, and the elements specific to 01 that inform it as armor over something else like the decorated eye slits and horn, but in very clean heroic colors that look even better tearing off of biological horror that's had enough. Love it to death, completely understand why it wasn't used.

Yes. Because in the show, they decided to paint it blue.

Rewatch the original Ramiel fight, 00 was that color originally. They changed it to blue after its armor got mostly melted, it's part of why it was a no show for the next few Angels (outside of it being unnecessary at the volcano and not on the ships for those Angels)

I don't really like any of them to be honest.

They're cool designs but they're just too samey. And there's absolutely no pattern to the colour schemes. There was some shitty theory about the "horns" or "eyes" corresponding to some mythological gods/giants/beasts but it's neither here nor there.

It was foreshadowing at the time. It was planned early for EVA-01 to also be trashed and rebuilt shiny and new with an upgraded power system reverse engineered from Angel corpses, that turned into eating one alive and mutating, and the half a bridge established earlier was abandoned with no connection made back to it. Show did that kind of a lot.

Jet Alone was pretty strong, it even gave Unit 01 a hard time in subduing it. Its combat mode wasn't even activated, nor were its weapons. IIRC it was even capable of generating an AT Field (which is why NERV saw it as a threat to their funding and forced it to 'malfunction')

I don't think Jet Alone had an AT field. The guy representing the company sidesteps the question when Ritsuko asks him about how they managed to generate an AT field and basically says they're working on it. Jet Alone 2 in the game also didn't have an AT field.

EVA00 is Rei's most popular EVA unit particularly combo'd with the Lance, which is why they don't use it.
