To be fair, killing off Burgie is important to the plot as one of the wedges being driven between Danny Boy and Pallad.

If a death serves to both raise stakes, show off a facet of a character, and drive the plot forward, then it's totally worth it.

Drive's sales did pick up towards the end at least. It just had a weak Q2. Other media sold well too, which is why we got two V-cinemas and an audio drama.

The Figuarts started to move towards the end too. They found life after the show ended, which was why they got made throughout Ghost's production to make up for things.

Otherwise go with Kamen Rider Amazon (Done by Hi no Tori subs) or Kamen Rider Stronger (Done by KITSubs).

If you want to go with Heisei, a good starting point would either be Agito, W, OOO, Fourze, or Drive. After that watch whatever the hell you want.

So I have just finished rewatching Kuuga for the third time and I have come to realize that I haven't really seen too many other KR series. To this date I've only finished OOO, Agito, and the Den-O OVA's. I want to pick another series and since it usually takes me a couple of months to slowly whittle my way through one I would like some help narrowing down my list.

Right now I am sitting on Ryuki (I'm using the Sub-Vent translations so I just move at their pace) And I have three other series on my radar to watch. Black, W, and Blade.

Of those three, which one should I head into? I've seen the first couple episodes of each and none of them seem bad although I think the monster suit designs in W are really bad so far. I appreciate any input.

No, not really.

V3, Super-1, Black, and Black RX are the only formulaic ones, and of those four, Super-1 and Black are fucking painful to watch, and V3 is only mildly entertaining because unlike Black and Super-1, the protagonist has an actual personality. Black RX is solely entertaining if you enjoy Metal Heroes, which RX essentially is.

The original franchise you could argue is kind of formulaic, but that's mostly because it's the original, it needs a formula to rely on when they're not trying new ideas. And even then, any Ogami-written episodes (Which are a majority) try to fuck with the formula that gets established after the mid-20s quite often, and towards the 80s the formula is completely thrown out the window in favor of episodes as crazy as the first 12-13.

X has three different routines and it juggles them around constantly to the point the routines don't even become apparent after the first I'd say 12 episodes, Amazon's completely different than the rest of the era due to a widely different protagonist and tone, Stronger changes the formula by having villains constantly being at odds and trying to one-up each other, resulting in anything you think becoming generic ending up being thrown off course because Titan or General Shadow come in and fuck everything up for the other. You could also argue Skyrider's formulaic, but only for the latter half and it doesn't even follow a Kamen Rider formula, it follows a 70s Ultraman formula what with all the crossovers and general reliance on previous heroes appearing and interacting with the protag.

Calling them all formulaic is basically admitting you haven't seen the show.

Black is still unfun, however, because it actively refuses to try and be fun, it tries to take itself seriously while not acknowledging the fact it is a children's television show meant to sell toys. Black RX, on the other hand, is actually fun because it doesn't take itself seriously.

V3 and Black both are similar in that they have pretty strong starting episodes before falling in the formulaic stuff, and both have pretty great final arcs thanks to Riderman and Shadowmoon. Really, enjoying both of them depends on how willing you are to overlook the weaker moments in favor of the final arcs. For a lot of people the final arc seems to count more than anything else in the show.

From what I've gathered and from my own opinions, people liked Beast, Wizard when he's allowed to have a personality like in movies or gag moments, Phoenix, the suit designs, some of the fight choreography, and the Wizcade thing at the end. From Ghost, people thought Necrom was okay and liked the suit designs, but there admittedly isn't much else to like about it. You're either not browsing the threads as much as you think you are, are only seeing people talk about the negatives when the positives are there, or pretending you're not actually Maurice. Is there a kneejerk reaction to someone saying that they thought either series was actually good? Yes. Are such statements usually shitposts and bait because it's what the Discord does? Most of the time, yes, the rest of the time, it's naive contrarianism on par with liking Sonic 06, Phantom Menace, or Adam Sandler's filmography, not knowing that such opinions are frowned upon within their respective communities.

South American here. While there IS a fanbase it isn't as big as you probably imagine. In my japanese class for example, full of weebs(like me) no one knows what it is (PR aside obviously). From what I see, most of the LA fanbase are people nostalgic for Liveman and the like and that can only last so much. Unless you count Power Rangers but USA probably is bigger in that regard.

Well, yeah, it's called being critical and finding the good and the bad of a series. I can find a lot of bad with Kabuto, Den-O, and W. I can even talk, at length, my beef with those three series in particular more than what I actually liked, but I still recommend them to anyone interested in looking into tokusatsu. If we didn't like Kamen Rider, we wouldn't be able to talk about what we have problems with. A show shouldn't have to be like a person where if we can't say anything nice we shouldn't say anything at all, nor should we have to excessively dote on it like a mother who believes her child can do no wrong. Being critical about things from a franchise we're fans of does not make us a bad fanbase, because we're terrible for a number of reasons, but finding faults with Ghost or Wizard or Kiva or Hibiki's second half isn't one of those reasons.
