They look like shitty Eureka 7 rejects and that show was bar none Kawamori's lowest point when it comes to design.

It's been awhile since I've seen CG, but I can't picture a single mecha in my head that isn't Lancelot, Guren, that round thing or the goofy centaur from Akito.

Though, the Akatsukis the Black Knights used in R2 were all MP Gurens with a simpler head. (So were the Gekka in R1) There's less difference between them than there is between Gundam and GM.
