I wasn't intending to give false hope, which is why I tried to emphasize that it's a rumor. Having checked it again after your post I see that the rumor mill is now saying that it's an original IP after an interview in the last week or two, but until a few weeks ago the rumor was a new Metroid. Possibly even a 2D one, since Retro had already done a 3D Metroid.

Still, I wouldn't give up hope of it never happening for the simple reason that bar Mario, Link and a few other franchises Nintendo tends to let stuff lie fallow for a while and then dig them up when people aren't expecting it at all. Kirby is getting a lot more support nowadays then he used to, and while he never really went quiet as such, he definitely had a lot less support in the past. Starfox, Pit and Donkey Kong all went dead for a while too if I recall. Just give it a while. They'll dust her off to mine the nostalgia eventually. It might not be a good game, or a popular one so she might be better off dead or go dead again - but they will do it eventually.

I'm a huge Metroidfag and the Power Suit is my favorite piece of powered armor in fiction ever. It's so fucking cool.

I don't care for certain elements to it though. I don't like how in Other M, the suit was tied to her willpower and Samus just 'willed' it into the physical space around her via magical girl transformation. That can go fuck itself. I also sorta don't like how it's practically magic, but I can forgive that considering the gameplay mechanics of the Metroid franchise.

That said, I prefer it when it's more of a more realistic suit of hyper advanced alien technology made up of about a thousand different components, like the MCU Iron Man suits. I really wish Nintendo would show Samus putting the suit on like the first Iron Man suit up sequence. I'd love for a more realistically-proportioned suit.

Best suits are the Dark Suit, Light Suit, and Varia Suit from MP2.
