It had this crazy setup with good designs and a halfway decently expanded world and then did nothing interesting or original with any of it. And I say this as someone who was perfectly fine with yuri. It wasn't even good yuri. I was let down on every front.

Get your head out of your arse and think for a minute. Once the harem anime makers realised they didn't need a generic male protagonist at all, they switched to yuri plots full to the brim with moe. This is their attempt at infecting the mecha genre. As a result of the overly moe characters and only spending effort making them cute, they forgot to give them realistic characters. From what I remember from the single episode I watched, a collection of non-characters with non-relationships and non-tragic backstories jumped in generic unexplained technology robots for no good reason, and there wasn't any plot to draw you in. All those anons are correct.
