Besides for Optimus and Soundwave, I think Hot Rod is cool despite him causing Optimus Prime to become Optimus Murdered. He had a really good voice actor in the movie.

I liked Hot Rod before he was Rodimus. He was impatient, sure, but he seemed always willing to learn and do what's right. He had a good head on his shoulders, but didn't really know what to do with it.

When he became Rodimus, his entire character became "I'm Not Optimus Abloobloo."

Hot Rod is great. I think he's a poor fit for a replacement for Optimus Prime. If anything, Ultra Magnus would fit the role so much better.

Yeah, Hot Rod was great. I liked his ascension in the movie, but he could've used a better design to sell my younger self on it (pic related). If he had actually started acting like a leader and not been a bitch about the whole ordeal, it would've been a 10/10 arc.

It's implied that Hot Rod only became the leader because he accidentally grabbed the Matrix of Leadership before Ultra Magnus did. Thus it didn't make a connection with Ultra Magnus, but with Hot Rod.

Not ironic. Starscream is amazing.

I can't think of any other 80's show that had a dynamic where one of the bad guys spent as much time fighting his boss as he did the good guys. It made Transformers stand out more. Anything storyline with Starscream is golden. You really want to see that little bastard usurp Megatron.

The old Marvel UK comics by Simon Furman handled Rodimus a lot better. He was unsure of himself sometimes but always manned up and saved the day without needing too much prodding from the others.

Fire Convoy from Car Robots for JUSTICE! Also G1 Optimus for being a kind but strong leader. Flat nosed trucks always looked cool too. Second favorite would have to be G1 Starscream for being such a backstabbing opportunist. His Prime incarnation was a great take on the character.

Where G1 Starscream is implied to be highly capable (second in command, leader of the Seekers, almost always the one who fires Megatron's gun mode) Armada Starscream is actually shown to be a badass. He's actually loyal until Megatron basically leaves him to die, and even when he turns on Megatron he still doesn't actually turncoat completely because he gives the Autobots an outdated map of the Decepticon HQ. He has a legitimate reason to feel betrayed and to hate Megatron, while G1 was just a bumbling (if extremely charismatic) backstabber who thought the only reason they weren't winning was because he wasn't in charge.

My favorite moment is when Starscream happens to walk up on Demolishor(?) who is talking to himself and talks shit about Starscream without realizing Starscream is standing there. Starscream doesn't say a word, he just partially deploys his sword/wing and grabs the handle but doesn't draw it out. He just stands there, ready, while Demolishor chickens out and apologizes. The calm, confident, silent "Okay, whatever..." reaction to the idea of fighting Demolishor was far more intimidating than any verbal threat could have been.

Megatron from Prime and Beast Wars. The things they said and the way they delivered their lines was some of the funniest things I've seen in Transformers.
