Depends on the model and what it's trying to do. Some machines look better curvier and sleeker while others are best made boxier and more heavy-set. It's not really an either-or thing.

While really boxy designs look garbage, really curvy designs done badly make me want to throw up. The Vers bots from A/Z are an example of curvy designs done not too well, but I quite like the Valvrave designs. I guess boxy designs are more realistic and more likely to look like robots, while curvy is more hit and miss.
